RS WST
Does anyone have any info on these engines, (bore, stroke, rod length etc?) and what aftermarket tuning bits are avaialable for them?

RS WST
There are a couple of 2.5 Volvo 5 cylinder alloy engines in the local breakers for £90 each Can anyone give me details of if this is a good base engine to use? Is the bell housing on these the same pattern as a VW?
volvorsport
nope and nope you could use them for setting up , the bore is too large , start with a 2.3 .
Flan
You mentioned the 328 e30 box can that be bolted straight to the T5 lump or will you need an adaptor plate. also someone said you could also run a M90 5-speed out of a late model 960 im still curious. volvorsport
getrag adapters are available for £130 from here www.klracing.se find a straight six manual from a 960 and youre set with an M90 . most guys fit a getrag for serious abuse . especially if you want it to fit in your tunnel . that manta engine , is based on the redblock from the 2/7/9 series , where they basically buy a marine crank/forged rods/pistons for about £1600 , stick a 16v head on it , double valve springs , enough hardware to support 2 bar of boost - 500bhp . ive built one for a customer . yes it is a heavy engine , the whiteblock is lighter - but not that much in 5 cyl guise and if youre serious about it , youll definitely need good tyres . Obviously NOT before Le Mans! Rich I'm game if you are? I'm also looking at using a 5 cylinder Audi lump as my mates engine made 640bhp at the wheels the other week. nikpro
Austin, before I got into Westfields I used to be involved in tuning Volvo T5's (I know a strange choice!) The engine is a good engine and can easily produce 300 bhp but after that you hit all sorts of problems. The weak link is the con rods that tend to bend - they really don't like high boost/lowish revs situations. There are very limited aftermarket suppliers for the engine and I would suggest there are far better alternatives for a Turbo Westfield. The tuning website I ran was T5uk.com (Think this now links to a porn site! - so don't try it if you are offended) Most Volvo tuning revolves around an ECU re-map to increase the boost pressure.
