very similar powers with similar specs

<!--emo&???

Standard stock 2L Zetec with TB's is circa 170bhp.

Standard stock 2L Duratec with TB's is circa 200bhp.

I wouldn't call that similar, but you may know something I don't ???  :p

err i beg to differ ............  you can show me a totally bog stock dura giving 200bhp ?

for that matter you can show me a totally bog stock zetec giving 170bhp ?

on tb's ?.......

for a fact you arn't gonna see more than 165 from a stock zetec ,and thats if its a real gem from production ,and that would be rare.

stock bottom end  dura , pocketed pistons , ported head , cams , dura 210 to 220  carbs or tbs

same for a zetec .......... we have had quite a few side by side on the rollers ,they give similar feel  and powers within 5 or 6 bhp

Ian the 226bhp kit you have for sale ....... from the parts you list its the same as i have in my zetec and i have 223 bhp (dyno figure) and i'm on carbs ,

Agreed Harv. My Zetec is 210bhp on softish cams my Vx sprint car has a little cleaning up of the ports some hydraulic profile cams (longer duration than my Zetec) and a set of forged pistons and makes 227bhp so on the face of it Duratec Vx Zetec all much of a muchness until you factor in the weight of the engine of the engine and the fact that the Duratec has the 2300cc option.

I'm sorry Harvey, but I think your talking nonense, but I'm sure your disagree.

The Westfield 2L Duratec kit with the Webber ECU (whether you like it or not) on which you bolt 45 TB's, respective injectors and a good flowing exhaust, according to Westfield, Raceline, Dunnell and Webber will produce a little over 200bhp from an untouched block and head. So thats NO porting, flowing or pocketing of a bog standard lump.

FYI, my 2L duratec produces 226bhp without ANY headwork. All it has is, as mentioned above plus pocketed pistons to allow lively cams.

Now, your 2L Zetec will require all the above plus headwork (which you fail to mention) to produce that bhp, I know because my brother has a 225bhp Zetec which needed headwork.

You are not comparing horses for courses, which is misleading. I'm not quibbling over 5bhp here or there, but 30 bhp is not in my eyes "similar".

While I'm at it, headwork (flowing only thus standard valves) on my 2L Duratec will hopefully see 260bhp, thats with all that I mentioned earlier, oh yes and some different pistons :D  ;)  :D

Oh come on Matt, look what you had to do to get similar HP, my Duratec has had no porting or forged pistons

sorry ian i can sit you in front of a dyno and you can watch ,with your own eyes .......... you are going on what pete at raceline has told you ,and i think you will find its not 100 % truth ......... as you say i recon the work to get your 226 is the same as mine to get 223 .i have carbs  , if i had throttle bodies we may see 228 to 230  as i understand it  Keith Scarf has the same spec as me on bodies (i think so can't confirm) and that gives 230 .

point being give engine builder a,b,and c the same engine and spec to build to , all will get different powers i lay money on ........its won't be huge maybe 5/6bhp between them but one will be better .............. now go look at who is producing winning engines in the relevant spec ..........then they still won't tell you where the extra 5bhp came from , why ??? because they like you and i have a living to make , ...

over the years i have seen many "enginekits" the best engine is built from scratch to a spec by an engineer who specialises in that particular engine .

i can show you a bell and colville 160 elise (aka richard and phils car ) stick it on dave walkers dyno against my factory elise 160 ..........from cars in the past if theres makes more than 145 , ill be surprised where the lotus 160  makes over 160 consistantly car to car.* (as long as its to sva spec cars not factory homologation as they produced less )

At last sence in the p******** contest that is VX,zetec, dura ....

there is a difference based in cost ,and obviously the 2.3 dura is a larger capacity .....

thats about it . cost or 2.3.

LOL I am not sure quite easy is the right term of phrase

You want bhp you pay, end of story

if I wasn't very good friends with certain performance products suppliers I would have stuck with me Zetec.

I guess when its all done and running I will say its the best thing since sliced bread.

but I won't argue about it, just go past you all on the track :p

So Harvey, are you stating that Raceline, Dunnell, SBD, Mountune, Raceco are all lying when they state that their spec produces 220bhp then ???

What did Richard's make on the rollers?

With all due respect to your superior knowledge of my engine and all those who specialise in engine tuning, I prefer to listen to them than you :D  :p

Oh, by the way this is not a p******** contest and mine is not bigger than yours, so don't anyone read it as that.

Be interested to see what mine makes, because with the exception of a few nuts and bolts my spec will be the same as westfieldman and his made nearly 250bhp on Dave Vessey's rollers. I let you know, because it will be the same rollers as Webber due their R & D

richards on the rollers made 214bhp ,he had fueling issues which they sorted ,it then made 218bhp .ported head pocketed pistons , cams .eg the same as yours ,

the next step up makes between 245 and 250 , i am not saying your 226 isn't 226 am i ,in fact i am agreeing with you ,,,,,,,,,, the next step is 250 , about 246 on a zetec , 245 to 250 on a duratec ....the whole point i made was they produce similar power with similar mods ........as matt agreed earlier the VX does again the same ??
