Aves Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Much as it pains me to get involved...............Caterhams don't all have K series. They also have had X-Flows, BDAs , BDRs Blackbird, Fireblade & Duratec engines. They also had the VX XE fitted as standard to the HPC as long ago as 92. I agree that it is stark staring mad to pay £17K for a K of 140bhp (particularly when there is a super sorted VX with 220bhp up for grabs for £14K at the mo). Me - I've had both the Kingswinford & Dartford products.............. Quote
Mark B Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Quite correct, not all of them do, but the majority of cars upto 10 years old do have.... That probably explains why a number of Caterham owners have done duratec or zetec conversions....... Quote
chappers Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Quote (chappers @ Aug. 16 2005,12:42) The fiberglass on my westy does creak more You can hear it?? Only when reversing off the drive. Then its just the sound of my brother's Cat...m trying to catch up. Quote

cidersurfer Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Caterhams - love 'em, Westfield -love 'em more, chips anyone? Quote
KenE Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 OK OK - I can resist no longer. Read on happy crisp chompers. IMHO........ 1) Westfield salesmen are particularly friendly and helpful – though wouldn’t you try hard too if you were selling a car that apparently creaks 2) WSCC and L7C each have mostly very nice members – both have a handful of arses. 3) If buying in component form you’ll be out driving your Caterham weeks (if not months) before driving your Westfield. 4) You’ll lose less sleep on the run up to SVA with a Caterham 5) Both Westfields and Caterhams look great. The Westfield looks modern, the Caterham has more classic looks. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. 6) A Caterham handles exceptionally well “out of the box” with less tweeking and adjustment required. 7) On a sprint/hillclimb/windy road a Westfield needs approx. 30bhp more than a Caterham to provide the same time/performance. It’s a road-space/weight/handling thing. 8) The Westfield has very nice rear independent suspension though this is only useful on bumpy roads. 9) You can get Caterhams that have zero glass fibre. 10) Headgaskets on Caterham supplied K series engines are NOT an issue. 12) Either car will give you a great deal of pleasure – but don’t go by the biased opinions of Caterham and Westfield owners – drive them both and make up your own mind! *sits back and opens a tin of Special Brew* Quote
felters Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Why do Quavers always make my fingers go orange? Just going to wash my hands... anybody mentioned Caterhams massive innovation in the form of the 21 yet? Obviously way ahead of the XTR... Quote
markcoopers Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I'm sorry I just can't let this go on any more. None of you brought Guinness or Hoola hoops I'll go and get some...................................................................................... ...................................................................... [crack, fizz *wet shoes and hands*] that's better. Now then... Quavers might slightly, but Whotsis make your fingers really orange, it's the annato don't you know. Quote
