I'm not sure what being in the cavalry has to do with knowing about the countryside, blatting around Salisbury plain in tanks does not qualify as far as I'm concerned.

The get off my land brigade as you call them didn't have a choice about the legislation on hunting, but the anti hunting MPs DID HAVE the opportunity to put legislation in place. Unfortunately they saw fit to go for an outright ban( against the recommendation of their own experts) and the legislation was subsequently thrown out. So I suggest that you get your facts right before you cast aspertions on others.

And in terms of the silent majority, depending on which statistics you look at, they are actually against a ban.

Happy Hunting

The Household Cavalry spend as much time hacking as tanking, maybe I should have been a little more specific.   We actually had about 4 times as many horses as tanks!

The choice time came long before legislation started it's tortuous route through Whitehall.   The debate about hunting has been going on for donkeys years.   Never seen hunt saboteurs in attendance at a hunt?

I also think you will find there is a little saying about statistics, that starts lies, damn lies......

I am against any legislation banning anything, but if you don't accept that change is necessary, you lose everything, that's all.   My point from the word go was that you had an opportunity to compromise, but simply dug in your heels, and now, like a bullock, you will simply be dragged along whether you like it or not by the ring through your noses!

James, I am not ignorant of the ways of the country at all.   I spent 10 years in the Cavalry, and was quite closely involved in hunting shooting and fishing.

My argument is simple, persist in keeping things exactly as they are, and you will be ridden over roughshod by the electorate, who rightly or wrongly assume that hunting is barbaric.   If you were prepared to make changes, the way of life of the country folk could go on for another 200 years without upsetting the moral majority.

What got my goat before was this utter b*****k about them and us - what crud!    You bought up the matter, I didn't, and if you do, you should be prepared to see the other side of the argument.

I suppose because people get killed on the road, you'll be hunting townies next too?   I am sorry, but nothing you have said holds water at all.   And as for point to points merely being a race, I still don't see why that can't be used to replace hunting.   People on horses charging around the countryside following hounds or people on horses charging around the countryside following a course.   I am trying to point out that is the lack of willingness by the "get 'orf moi land" brigade that has led to this impasse in the first place.   They for whatever reason thought that just because it was what they wanted, they could just ignore the silent majority - well, welcome to the real world!

I'm not for the nanny state, I'm not actually that fussed about hunting either, but if you start talking bull$hit, don't be surprised if you get shot down in flames!

I asked earlier who had actually been hunting, have you?   I have, and we didn't have a great deal of success catching any foxes - they were far too clever for you country folk!   I had much more fun leading the pack of bloodhounds a merry dance on Sennelager with the Weser Vale Hunt, so please, don't patronise someone who does see both sides of the issue!

Nuff said?

were do I start firstly im not patronising you if you are prepared to see both sides of the boring argument then good but you have to admit that your a little bit of a hypocrit yourself you staed that you have been hunting yourself and there fore were willing to subject the poor little fluffy fox to the barbaric treatment that you your self mentioned earlier and you have the chhek to say my argument dost hold water!!

as for hunting townies and people getting killed on the road did you read my relply at all or are you just firing of half cocked I said foxes die on or roads not people!! and from that point of view what you going to do ban cars? :bangshead:  :bangshead:

You yet again prove my point of singleing us all out with your "Get 'orf moi land" coment in truth were no diffrent to you we just live in another part of the country but that said it is a diffrent way of life and you have to agree on that but youi seem to think that we should live up to your moral ideals, mm I dont think im even ging to let myself get started on that one!!

It dose not matter if you ban hunting or not the truth is it will still go on in some shape or form but it will be illegal and therefore unregulated wich is more dangrous?

all this argument is is political leverage and your falling for it are people who live in the city's really nieve enoughto think that they have made a diifrence to a foxes life beacuse they voted for labour? if so this country really is doomed.

what I cant understand is all the fuss over the subject but people think nothing of where there piece of pork or steak came from we live in acruel world get over it!

James, I hate to say this, but it was you who came up with the them and us argument, not me.

You still haven't said whether you have ever been hunting, well, have you?

My comparison of people and foxes was to illustrate that just because the fox dies accidentally as well doesn't make it right to sanction cruelty - hence the people hunting part (does it really need spelling out?)

How do you see my having taken part in ONE hunt and my views regarding cruelty as incompatible?   At least I take my stance from first hand experience, and not from a standpoint of ignorance.

Incidentally, you might be interested to know that the reason no foxes were run to ground that day was because some local farmers refused to allow the hunt to take place on their land - ironic huh?   What ever happened to the countryside lobby that day?   This was, I might point out, in the early eighties, and even then, the writing was on the wall for hunting - the police outnumbered the hunters by about 6 to 1!

ah, those freindly little animal lovers who see fit to spray paint in horses eyes to protect the foxes :stupid: :p

Blimey! Beginning to think that I'd stumbled into the website for the Beaufort Hunt or the League against Cruel Sports by mistake!! I thought this was a site about Westfields and other closely associated subjects?

Mr Webmaster - how about a rule outlawing anything connected with politics or religion?

Would save a lot of hassle Pete, I agree!

We can all agree on that!

Much more importantly I picked up my new(to me) Westie on Saturday and managed to drive it all the way home without getting wet. The grin still hasn't left my face.  :D

Really what are you smoking?

If you dont belive in cruelty to animals then what the F8^k were you doing on a hunt?

if you actualy belive the two are compatable then I dont know what to say :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

It does not matter if you caught a fox that day or not, the point is you were willing to do so and there fore if you are against cruelty to animals you are by definition a hipocrit

No I dont hunt and No ill never go on hunt But I fail to see the relevance no one in the city's has been on a hunt or even seen one in the flesh but that does not stop them throwing there opinions around.

goodness me!!!!

Is this about the last word or something?

Never done something at some point in your life you felt later (20 years later as it happens) wasn't quite the done thing?   I don't have to justify my reasons for having attended a hunt, or why I hold these views.   My reason for getting involved in the first place was not because of my rampant views on fox hunting, but because of this so called divide between you well rounded, knowledgable country types feeling us poor ignorant townies had no right to opinions because we don't understand the ways of the countryside.

So, in summary:

Townie - been hunting, and been "the fox" in a non-cruel alternative to fox hunting

Country - not been hunting, don't intend to ever go hunting

Yep, totally ignorant aren't I, I'll shut up then!!!!!

Anything else you are not sure about, ask someone who gives a damn!

No this isnt about having the last word I dont give a rats ass if they ban the sport or not but I still think its a shame to lose one more pice of england when will enough be enough!!

Yes I have done things in my life that I layter regreated but thats all you had to say Im not asking you to justify yourself for your belifes or your actions nothing you or I belive in is going to make a damns worth of diffrence in the grand skeem of things.

Just because I havnt been on a hunt and you have does not give you the upper hand all i meant by that was if you are against hunting then why would you want to experiance it? you have a prity good idea of what goes on withought torturing yourself any more than you need to I respect your views I really do but you dont relise unless you live in the country that foxes and badgers are a pain in the  :arse: to locals and farmers.

Its a little like being an enviromentalist and belliving that cars are evil toxic planet pollutants and then going for a drive on a track day just to see what it was like.

look your taking this personnaly and getting upset for nothing it really isnt important the powers that be will decide for all of us, just dont expect it to stop thats all im saying

"Zygote" isn't this a stage in the development of an embryo? Sounds like the first word rather than last. :p

Well, that was a spectacular waste of time :arse:

Quite enough, I think. How about we stop here and get back to cars? There are no right answers, and opinions on fox hunting are always going to be opposing. So before this gets really out of hand, lets call it quits and get back to Westfields. Or C******m bashing, or something...
