Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 17, 2023 Author Posted June 17, 2023 After giving the chassis a lick of paint, today I’ve mostly been riveting. I didn’t count how many but that’s a lot of holes drilled and then the chassis panelled. it’s starting to look like a Westfield 🤣 6 1 Quote

Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 Bit of assembly done today, got the front wishbones on and the rear axle. Really pleased with how well the home made polybushes are working. I also trial fitted the steering rack so that I could measure and then cut down the steering arms to the right length. A small touch, fitting the chassis plate. Believe it or not this is the first car I’ve designed and built entirely from scratch so it wears the number 01. 5 Quote
jaykay42 Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I think that is absolutely fantastic! Even better: the size of the box of Kronenbourg in the picture! 40!!! Now that's proper! (I usually buy 6-packs) 1 Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 19, 2023 Author Posted June 19, 2023 A couple more hours after work tonight and I got the steering rack cut down to the right length, new threaded ends welded on and then fitted to the car. I then spent a bit of time getting the front camber set and the toe-in to zero. To make this easier I clamped a couple of lengths of steel to the front uprights and then measured off both sides of the chassis till everything was parallel. Final job before I had to stop and cook dinner was to swap out all the plain nuts on the suspension for nyloc’s and tighten them all up. 8 Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 20, 2023 Author Posted June 20, 2023 Front uprights assembled. The axles are a kart part I sourced which happened to have the right 17mm diameter for the moped hubs. They just needed a few washers to space them correctly for the callipers. I’d previously stripped the hubs down, removed the seals and flushed out the original grease, this I then replaced with oil to reduce the rolling resistance. 7 Quote

Shouldn’t be a problem for a man who can remove an engine from a Westfield in two minutes… 3 Quote

I once removed an engine from an Audi A4 in under two seconds. True, it was by having a Civic Type R drive into it at speed, and you didn't specify whether the engine had to work after... Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted June 21, 2023 Author Posted June 21, 2023 Not much to show for tonight’s progress but got the front brake lines made up and fitted. I’m only fitting brakes on the front as I figure I won’t need to be using them other than to stop at the end but I have made provision for rear brakes if I want to fit them in the future. 3 Quote
