Ok cool. 3 years would be a little soon and quite unfortunate if they have genuinely failed.

If the reset doesn't improve matters it might be worth an email to TPLink support. If they offer help then great, if not then I guess you won't be buying them in future. Please let me know what the hard reset brings.

Hard reset, while a splendid and correct idea which didn’t occur to me, has unfortunately made no change.  Both still dropped out after 48 hours and 6 days respectively.  They work temporarily if you shut them off and back on again, but it’s frustrating to be sure.

I'd email TPLink on the... er... link I posted earlier. They offer a 2 year warranty which you're out of but they still might be encouraged to help. Sale of Goods Act still applies as well ;)

You’ve cursed my installation Scott, after 3 years running faultlessly my TP-Link WPA7510 powerline adapters have also now failed.

I’ve tried a hard reset and repaired the adaptor to the extender but to no avail. My phone is showing 3 bars for the Wi-Fi signal but it’s running so slow I can’t even get a speed test result. The only thing I have tried yet is plugging a laptop directly into the Ethernet socket on the top.

Definitely try that. I have had one of the wifi plugs fail where the wifi part has carked it but the wired works fine.

Unfortunately, plugging a network cable between my desktop and the extender has not rectified the issue.  I've emailed the manufacturer to express my disappointment, and will tell you of their response in due course.

I failed trying with mine as none of the laptops in the house had an Ethernet socket. I looked at buying a USB adaptor but since these were about the same price as a pair of new powerline adaptors I decided to do that instead.

problem now fixed :t-up: but £35 lighter for it

I will be very interested to hear what they say as their reaction may inform decisions I make going forwards.

I had a fairly comprehensive email by return the next day, asking for more info (firmware version, status of LEDs, whether it happens on both wired and wireless devices), along with a link to a detailed flowchart to follow.  This led me to Case 3, which I worked my way down in a painstaking manner.  It didn't cure things, so I've written back to them and asked what they were prepared to do.  I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the update. I am encouraged that they didn't simply fob you off :t-up:

Me too.

Another email arrived late yesterday - here’s part of it (links removed):

”To better locate the issue, the next time the connection drops, before rebooting or resetting the powerline devices, could you kindly help us collect the following?

1. Please send a screenshot of the IP information of the computer/laptop wired to the powerline extender. You may follow this guide to check the IP information: How to find IP address on your devices

2. Please ping the IPv4 Default Gateway  obtained on the computer/laptop and send a screenshot of the result: How to Use the Ping Command

3. What is the network diagram in your house?

4. Approximately how many devices are connected to the powerline devices? What models are they?

5. What is the hardware version(like V.1 or Ver. 1) of the extenders? You may find it on the bottom label near the serial number. I'm afraid 4.0.3  is not a clear firmware version. What is the number after Build for the firmware? For example, Build 171011”

Just need to wait for it to fail again - that won’t take long… 🤦‍♂️

OK. If you need any help with that I would be happy to join a remote session and dig through it with you. I realise the irony of saying that when you're having connectivity issues but I'm sure we could find a way round it if we need to.

I have been working from my garden home office for 2 years now. TP link extender initially worked ok, but uploads were slow. Kids were constantly nagging the internet is cr*p.
After consulting @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO and @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman i invested in a Deco mesh system, 4 units. Not had an issue and seems more stable to extender. Kids have gone quiet too!

I assume for the mesh to work the distance from house to garden room is quite short or do deco offer an outdoor unit ?

I replaced problematic powerline adapters with 3 Deco E9s and find them totally stable. But one of my Decos is about 10m and 2 walls from the main access point Deco and is just about at the limit of its range.
