Watched the Johnny Smith thing the other day where he looked at the EV MGB. Not particularly powerful (90bhp) and not particularly great range (160 miles), but the new car, including a very much improved suspension setup was apparently about 45kg more than the original. Stupid expensive mind, but then so are the 'new' MGBs based on MX-5 mechanicals. It was actually a tad cheaper than those apparently.

 

So, allowing for an improvement in battery tech once we get solid state cells, and there are already plenty of more powerful motors out there, then a decent power/weight/range EV Westy seems plausible.

 

Lack of engine noise (other than an annoying whine)...sorry, got nothing to fix that other than what some manufacturers already do, even in ICE cars - play a sound out of a speaker. The EV equivalent of putting playing cards on your cycle forks so they get hit by the spokes I think.

Got quoted Circa £25K to have my Wessy converted by Electric Classic Cars .They had an EWestfield in the workshop  , I understood this was a prototype for the Factory

A few things need to change. Less reliance on Batteries from China whose use of fossil fuels will not peak until 2030 according to Matt Ridley in todays Telegraph. Improved generation backup for when the wind don't blow, and what happens when you limp to the service station and all the charging points are in use. Our dentist changed his GTR for a Tesla Model X. When his wife run out of charge and was stranded it went.

I like the point made by @Man On The Clapham Omnibus replaceable battery pods.

Hydrogen is some way off, a bit pricey and a bit dangerous as shown by the filling station in Norway. (Badly fitted plug in a storage tank.)

My question about this is if there was a similar failure (and yes I do realise I am comparing apples with chair legs) in a petrol pump, would the consequences have been less dangerous. We all hear "hydrogen" and think "Hindenberg" but petrolis pretty dangerous too, petrol vapour even more so. I don't think the leap from petrol ot hydrogen to too great, but it is a leap.

If you watched the Vintage Voltage series, a New Chesil was converted to electric and commissioned by Westfield.

has anyone checked the towing capacity of electric vehicles, the good news at least no more caravans- bad news what are you going to take your electric westfield to the track with?

They make better tow vehicles because of low down torque.  Also mass weight increased because of batteries.

 

Caravans are here to stay.....

they have the torque but I haven’t as yet been able to find an electric car that has been homologated for towing.

And what does the extra weight/drag do for range in a lecky vehicle?

Nope they will all drive electrics charged from the nearest lamp post or by unplugging your car and plugging theirs in.
