That gives the WSC factory 10 years to develop a hybrid or a car powered by alternative technology. Whilst i think it's a good move and clearly wont affect classic / kit cars in the short to medium term it may put untenable pressure on small volume manufacturers. Been happening for years already, look at some of the joke phev cars that circumvented the company car tax regs. Alan France Posted November 18, 2020 Share Posted November 18, 2020 When the price of the bits drop I’d be happy to convert mine to electric power. Would I buy an electric kit car, yes but that decision is obviously price dependant. Normal car is hybrid, our 3rd, so disappointed they are only given a further 5 years. Some way to go on the charging infrastructure, at present would be happy with electric as a second car for shorter journeys. Not sure electric would work at present for our 450 mile monthly round trips to family. Not sure what happens to the grid if we all go electric. Once batteries, charging improves it will be a different story. If I was PM I wouldn’t have pushed this onto the car industry now that’s for sure. Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 18, 2020 Share Posted November 18, 2020 A ban on the sale is quite different from an outright ban which will follow as night follows day but some years later. You can buy and run an ICE car up to the specified date and continue to run it thereafter - for a period as yet unpublished. My point was that if the outright ban date is a decade or more after 2030 then those who have learned to drive and maintain their cars sympathetically should be unaffected for some time. The current IVA Regulations don’t require us to comply with current strict emissions testing requirements now so I can’t imagine why this would drastically change in the future.
