China also appears to have eradicated the virus. Id be sceptical of any claims from there.

A work colleague's sister in law is a teacher in China, and she says life is back to normal and no one even mentions it anymore🤷🏾‍♂️

No doubt under strict orders from on high. I'm betting the punishment for disobedience is high too...

Thailand seems to have things under control too.
Our youngest son lives there and he says things are pretty 'normal' but masks were already quite popular there anyway, and at the mo they haven't got hoardes of marauding Chinese tourists around.
In fact I'm going through the process of applying for a 12 month visa right now, ready for when this lockdown is over, and if I'm successful and can find a way of getting there before Christmas I'll be off like a shot, the 14 day quarantine will be a bit grueling but after that I know our sons house will be a darn sight safer than anywhere here. :t-up:

My main worry would be on the plane but otherwise figures very low in Thailand as you say Paul.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/thailand/

Total Coronavirus Cases: 3,810,  Total Deaths: 59.

Most recent stat. is 7 new cases daily and last death 19 sep 2020 (prior to that there was 1 death on 02 June).

Are there any planes left or have they all been parked for chopping up?

Yep that would be our worry too, we may splash the cash and go business class, plenty of social distancing there, especially on the A380, but still all masked up.
There only a few nominated airlines allowed to fly in at the mo, BA, Emirates, Etihad, Lufthansa etc, I listed them cos we have flew with them before to Thailand and think their covid policies would be trustworthy. Last April we were stranded in Australia and the only way home was BA and it was just about bearable in premium economy.

It occurred to me that we'll end up in a sort of 'Lord of the Flies' scenario. The seemingly immune young people feel that they can play fast and loose with the regulations with little risk to their health. However, as recent lead/lag of young and older infections have shown, the young become infected and carry on with their God-given right to have fun with no significant symptoms, and return home to the parental homes where they live (with no real responsibilities to anyone), and infect their parents and grandparents. The older people, being more likely to suffer serious symptoms from the virus, variously become ill and die, or become disabled by 'long-covid' which renders them incapable of either working or looking after the feckless youth. Ultimately it is as if the youth has been cast away on an adult world (here the Lord of the Flies analogy comes in) with little knowledge or skills to manage their lives and no 'grown-ups' surviving to help, guide, provide, or most importantly pay for their new existences. Welcome, brats, to the real world!

Brings to mind the film Idiocracy. Premise is different but the results are the same...

It's a passable B movie type of gig.

Anyone who identifies as "not a millennial" will I am sure draw some worrying comparisons between fantasy and real life...
