@A1243R that''s good you've got mechanical experience!

Have a read of this thread to give you some idea on Mac1's customer service, the blatant lies are probably the worst part :(

https://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/45/viewthread.php?tid=175001

But,if you buy a fully built road legal Mac1 you will have no need to deal with the factory, as it's only really bodywork/wishbones etc that you would ever need to buy from them if it got damaged.

Everything else is mainly universal parts or can be used from other kit car manufacturers with slight mods to some parts.

Ref BEC vs CEC BEC's are certainly an aquired taste, the gearbox, being dog engagement,is clunky and knocks a lot coming off/going on the throttle etc due to lack of cushioning like you get on a bikes rear wheel. The low engine torque means you need to be using the gears a lot too,you can't be lazy like you can in a CEC and take roundabout's in third gear and just pull away out of it!

I love BEC's though, the acceleration with the sequential gearbox and noise at high revs is really good on B and A road blasts!Downside is they average about 1000rpm per 10mph,so 70mph cruising is 7000rpm,so on dual carriageway's/Mway's the high revving gets monotonous to me,but I'm not planning on touring etc so I just avoid boring straight roads and always go the back road/scenic route!

I've only been in one CEC vs 5 BEC's so I am biased, but the Zetec CEC I went in on Oulton Park confirmed my fears that the standard Type 9 box and Zetec on ITB's felt boring to me,revs dropped too much between gearchanges and it felt too much like a daily driver/tin top with the standard 5 speed gear change.

Only a little bit but I'm sure it'd tide me over and if not the father in law can help :d

Thanks, I'll take a look at that thread. How have you found your MAC? Did you build it from scratch or buy it?

Suppose to actually tell which I prefer I need to test drive/passenger drive both. But as you say I wouldn't be using this as a cruiser it'll more be the A/B roads of cheshire/north wales and then a couple of track days a year.

Does anybody know of any good dealerships that sell westies/kit cars where they would have a selection? Anything local? @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary

ToyBox generally has the greatest selection of Westfields in. Otherwise, it tends to just be the odd one or two that pop up in regular dealers. Like many kits, their specialist nature means that a lot of main stream dealers will shy away from them, plus they tend to be owned by enthusiasts, on the whole, who generally try and sell privately - preferably to other enthusiasts!

Come to Oulton Park on April 10th, I'm sure you can get some passenger rides.

I'll see if I can slot it in around work. Might not bother if the weather is ****e though... assume I'd need a helmet for a passenger ride too?

??? yeah I suppose you are always waiting for me tbf...........

NOT!:arse:

I was waiting to meet up with @CosKev one morning last summer at the Ponderosa on the Horseshoe Pass (he was late as usual).  There were'nt many cars around as it was early, suddenly I heard a noise which made me think "someone is trying to fly a Saturn V rocket up the Llangollen Valley on full chat"

A good 5 minutes later Kev hammered around a corner doing at least 25mph.

Just noticed this on Ebay... it's not the BEC which I think I long for but seems good condition and a decent price.

You guys will probably all tell me its a shed now

I'm no expert on models but I think that is a narrow car,so depending on your size and size of your m8''s you might be a little too close! :blues:

If you buy a Mac1/mk indy etc you really do need to look it over properly,on these cheaper kits the builder has to make brackets/pieces etc that are not included by the manufacturer.

Where as a Westfield can be built by someone with way less mechanical knowledge etc as they are a more comprehensive kit.

If I was buying again it would be a Westfield or a MNR Vortx for me.

Although MK are now under new ownership and looking at there cars at Stoneleigh last year they looked good :)

I'll say it again, don't rush into buying a car!

Stoneleigh is on May bank holiday weekend, the only kit car show that''s still running :(

More and more cars cropping up as the weather seems to be getting a little better... probably best to buy in winter with the prices really isn't it but hey ho...

Seen a lovely MK Indy and MNR Vortx... the Vortx looks really nice as it's a little bit different to the original 7'esque design.

Two points to bear in mind with this one.

The single cam engine is getting a bit long in the tooth and the four speed box is straight cut so would be pretty noisy and not deal for road use.

As for BEC vs CEC, it’s a very personal choice and both have their selling points.

A BEC will be more tiring on a motorway and on normal roads, but we had two with us around the alps, so they are not impossible to tour with. They will be well suited to track days with the light weight and sequential box.

A CEC will (in my view) better suit road driving where you can pretty much leave it in third around the twisties and use the torque to boot it out of corners without having to constantly change gear.

As a life long biker I wanted a BEC but ended up building a Zetec engined car. I use it for fun on the back roads and also for track days and will try sprints this year. I do not regret the decision.

@A1243R Pop links up if you want people to take a look :)

Kev - will do, a few have popped up on Facebook so i'll have to post the info on here copy and pasting.

I've noted that my budget needs to be about 10/12k so it's most likely been upped!

Chris, thanks for the detailed response, I don't think that is the car for me in all honesty just looked like a cheapish clean example.

I'm still up in the air about BEC/CEC... I feel as though my heart is set on a BEC for thrills, noise, sequential gearbox but head is with the CEC...

This will literally be a toy and only used for the odd evening out and then track days... doubt I will end up doing 300+ mile trips in one.

What are you looking at for a decent spec CEC with a Zetec engine in it? Say 180bhp? Ideally I don't want to spend more thank 10k if i am being sensible.

One of the options I have found which isn't a westy but an MK Indy.

Mk Indy R Hayabusa kit car 2010 factory built, 197bhp LSD, 6 speed sequential shift, 450kg 0-60 sub 3’s, inboard pro tech coilovers,AB performance billet sump with oil pick up swing arm (no oil starvation), custom D&F balanced prop shaft, poly bushed,15” team dynamics pro 1-2’s, Toyo 888’s semi race tyres, wilwood 4 pots with cross drilled & vented all round, bike clocks with speedo healer, savage switches, power commander, sabelt harnessing, rear covered grp black & green seats with seat pads, fully carpeted, carbon fiber dash & aero screen, carbon front arches & nose cone air intake (ford panther black)F1 mirrors, sparco peddles, pop off sparco steering wheel, full FIA approved roll cage, long acre rear view mirror, rear diffuser, LED lights, New Barnet uprated race clutch, full samco hoses, alley catch tank.

Car has just had new front carbon arches & rear light pods removed, new headlights, & new uprated Barnet clutch ( first 2 pics) only done 2160 miles from build

Probably a bit to fast for a first car in all honesty but it looks good.

Other option is this MNR:
