Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Test drove a trade in, three year old last gen RX7 from a dealer Knutsford, dear god it was fast, and felt really fast! It was also a bit on the cramped side for me, so ended up going for a slightly older Celica GT4 - the Carlos Seinz version. Oh how I loved that car, but had to swap it for an estate car when I went self employed. Quote
Steve (sdh2903) Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 I know you said not a Beemer but a z4 3.0 would tick your requirements. That 3.0 na straight 6 is a peach and bomb proof if your going to compete. Parts and maintenance would be much cheaper than the porker. 1 Quote

A totally rational suggestion, yet I haven't the faintest interest in owning one. I can't explain it, just not interested. Weird. Quote
maurici Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Come to test drive mines... then deciede. (I dont think is a sensible choice for any kind of track use anyway...) Quote
B.RAD Posted January 9, 2019 Author Posted January 9, 2019 Well, first car after the sale of the westy 8 months ago, I've ticked the Porsche box by getting into a 986.2 2.7 Boxster. It's just arrived so early days but so far I'm impressed by it's build quality, interior, engine noise, turn of pace and pedal position - heel and toe is a breeze. 2 Quote
Thrustyjust Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 A lot of car for the money. Boss has an S and he doesn't use it often. Battery in the front means he cant get in when it goes flat. Poor excuse for not using it really as doesnt do it any good. He has had issues with the crankcase pressure system, which makes it smoke white, a lot !! . Was replaced at a Porsche dealer easily. Cats rattle , which is common. Guy next to work has an S too and has just replaced the water/ oil cooler, which is a common fault. Took a while to flush out. Also RMS is a problem . But its something as a car I considered before building the Westie. Great looking car and enjoy it lots Quote
B.RAD Posted March 23, 2019 Author Posted March 23, 2019 Just put a for sale ad up for the Boxster! I've loved owning it and driving around in it, it's such a lovely car and has completely sold me on Porsche's as a great purchase/investment. Still got a 996 itch, but also want to get something I can work on/modify myself. This car is just too good to mess with! My thoughts now are either a BEC screamer or a V8 howler Quote
KugaWestie Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Are you throwing in the scissors as well? 1 Quote

B.RAD Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 Well the Boxster has gone on to it's new home with @It Almost Looks Like A Car, may he have many happy miles with it! Now I'm on to the tough decision about what to go for next... Quote
woodman Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Excellent topic. I am about to put my Westy up for sale . I fancy a classic instead - older GTi, Mr2 mk 1, maybe a Mini 1 Quote
B.RAD Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 All good choices Stu! I've had a mk1 MR2, that was a great car. The nose lift at speed when the lights were up was a bit concerning though! Lovely interior and driving position. Mine was a t-bar with full leather interior. Gorgeous. Quote
stephenh Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Well I'm loving my Jaguar XKR. Not what many on here would want I know, but then I'm quite a bit older than the majority of Westy owners. It is well over 3 times the weight of my XI, but it does have 400 bhp., and oodles of torque to push it along, so everybody who has been in it is amazed at the acceleration, particularly at quite high speeds. 1 Quote
