Not used in the public network anymore, all cables are run through duct these days.   Armoured cables are always a problem to fault on as the joints were buried, so no immediate access.    Only the smaller 1 to 5 pair armoured cables are used now in exceptional circumstances at a customers property where duct cannot be run on their property.
