No, a million people have not signed a petition... Signing a petition requires some effort, you have to stand up, hold a pen and remember your name and where you live. A million people have gotten sufficiently motivated to click a button on a tablet, smart phone or PC... Not the same thing... Especially if some vacuous celebrity twitters a link to the petition website to their million followers on FaceSpace Just like that little referendum we had last year, again no comment on the rights or wrongs of the results, but from listening to the interpretation of the results it seems most young people wanted to stay in and most grumpy old gits wanted out. And whilst the young ones stayed at home because it was raining and instead were squeaking their ethereal twitters of protest onto the Wibbly, Wobbly Web, the grumpy old sods got up, got out and voted. And that's probably why the result went the way it did. The moral for the youths of the day is, get off your bean bag and physically register your intent, those are the only opinions who count... And Lord help us if we ever go to web based voting..! 2 Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 They seem unable to separate the Office of President of the United States of America (to which the invitation is extended) with the current incumbent personally (to whom there would be no invitation without the presidency being his). The Chinese premier was here on a state visit, but that doesn't imply any support for China's activities, but it is a Head of State being invited by another Head of State. In fact until Scott took the address list off me and raised the court restraining order against me, I would have personally visited you all and sat in your kitchens until you pretended to agree with me... About 10 years ago I asked the audience at an IT conference in Atlanta "where the bathroom was because I had to go and 'powder my nose'" I walked back into a room of 50 people who all now assumed I had done a line of drugs in the toilet... I playfully asked them to explain why? Not a clue they could articulate other than all their mates were doing it. When I told one who has a holiday booked in Florida that US immigration were not issuing visas to those who have voted to ban Trump on this petition as they had access to it,, she went white? She was then asking everyone how she could get her name off the list as she really wants to go and only did it as she felt she had to.. She is probably still wondering. 1 Quote
