Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Yeah, was talking to one of my sisters yesterday - she works in the prescriptions dept at a big GP's up in Harrogate, she was saying similar about the number of long lasting severe colds/flu's they've seen this year: a massive increase in patient numbers compared to what they've seen before, and easily lasting five or six weeks in some cases, but most lasting considerably longer than what's considered normal. I have had to call a friend who is on chemo currently and say we havent been ignoring by not coming round, we just dont want her to catch anything we have !! When the wife bought some cold and flu stuff, the chemist said that as quickly it was put on the shelf, they were gone..........And the sun is out and the Westie needs a run............soul destroying .......... SootySport Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I had the Queens cough over Christmas and lasting into the new year before it abated, it has also returned to me and have a good cough again. Everyone I know has had it too so certainly a widespread ailment. Reckon it's because of the weather keep turning from warm to cold every couple of days. I don't understand why everyone goes to their Doctor with a cold, they can't do anything more than you can do for yourself, the NHS is under enough pressure as it is. Quote
TAFKARM Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I think it's because you're all old :-D 1 Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I started the damned bug on or about 7 January and am still producing copious mucus (that well known Roman emperor). My Good Lady, who started it a few days after I did, picked up an opportunistic bacterium to boot, and has been on strong antibiotics for it for over a week and she's still running a bit of a fever and has a poor appetite. The viral part is unaffected, of course, but a blood test showed that there was a nasty bacterial bug riding in on the open immune system. I blame our granddaughters, they are walking bio-hazards! Our symptoms were cold-like snot production, sore throats, fever up to as high as 39°C, nausea, appetite loss, headaches, and relentless coughing. It's the coughing that's the worst part - it leaves you exhausted. Quote
Stuart Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I started 13th Jan, I'm still coughing but think I'm over the worst now. Memsahib started a few days later and is still knocked over by it.. Quote

jeff oakley Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Mine started before Christmas, then got on to my chest, so had anti biotics in first week of January. Started to feel better and then it came back with a vengeance. Back to Doctors yesterday and had a chest xray just to be sure. He told me there is a virus that has gone around and is not easy to get rid of. He has had it over a month along with his wife. It will take time to just go away but the elderly are at risk from it.
