Captain Colonial Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 This year's seasonal bug seems to be the worst one I can remember for years. Lady Chair has it, friends and colleagues have it, it's even bumped off an elderly friend of mine just before Christmas and might take his sister as well. Local funeral home private ambulance been going back and forth down the road like a taxi on a Saturday night. Haven't had it, don't want it either. Seems to drag on for a couple of weeks rather than a few days. Are you seeing similar round your way? Quote
Thrustyjust Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Never had a cold like this for me. Day 11 now and still not any better. Neighbours son had it for 3 weeks , then a 2 week break and then back in again for another 3 weeks. Mrs TJ is just getting over tonsilitus , which has been nearly a month. Chemist has nothing in stock for colds. In their words, we put it on the shelf and its gone straight away. They said there is a cold epidemic and a upset stomach/ vomiting bug too.............. Quote
Terry Everall Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I have now had the "COLD" for about 4 weeks and as soon as you seem to be over it comes back even worse. Sore throat , blocked nose its driving me mad! Chemists stuff is useless and they admit it . We have donne amazing things as re human race but still to cure for a common cold! Quote
Andy Banks Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 All quite dharn sarth at present from what I've seen which is surprising as I usually see the masses coughing and wheezing on the Tubes and Busses into work. Still, it's been a quite Christmas break this year and the kids are back to school en-masse next week so it won't be too much longer... Quote

An elderly family member had cause to visit Barnet General over the new year as the cold had developed in to a relatively serious chest infection. total of nearly 7 hours in casualty with the local HA saying this has been the busiest holiday period ever. I do realise that casualty is full of those who aren't really ill but all patients go through the same process so the queue is what it is... Quote
DonPeffers Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Must be something serious going round if the Queen is laid low for a fortnight. I wonder Scott have you had your yearly flu jab recommended for asthmatics? I get mine every year and even so lately my peak flow (amount of puff I can blow thru a tube) has been very low some days so I have increased my steroid inhaler (short term) to compensate. Hoping all who are feeling poorly are better soon. Quote

Hoping all who are feeling poorly are better soon. Thanks for remembering and thinking about me, much appreciated - yes, had my flu jab in early October and very glad I did! My asthma has actually been pretty much under control since I've been given a specialist, who switched my drug regime to Fostair NEXThaler 200/6 dry powder inhaler x 4 per day; glycopyrronium bromide 55mg inhalation powder capsule x 1 per day (SeaBri by trade name); and carbocistene 375mg capsules x 4 per day to control mucus in my lungs. My peak flow has been very steady at 450 for about eight months now (beforehand, it did drop to 300 at one point and my blood oxygen level dropped from 99% to 91% which nearly landed me in hospital). Very sorry to hear your peak flow is low, don't take any chances and please look after yourself! My best wishes to everyone suffering with this rot as well, hope you're better very soon indeed. Quote
mark.anson Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I've got it too. Had it since mid December and can't shift it. Bad dry cough followed by a nose like a tap. I agree. Worst winter bug for ages Quote
jeff oakley Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 Same here, had it for over 4 weeks and hit it with everything normal. Now it is on my chest and have antibiotics having a go. You just start to feel a bit better then it is back. It is not just older people like this as well, I know three young very fit guys all the same. Quote
corsechris Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 The missus caught this just before Xmas, still not clear of it now although it is easing a bit. Did rather take the shine off our Xmas trip to Switzerland. That, and no bl**** snow. Somehow I've so far escaped catching it. Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 me and the missus have both had the chesty cough thing now for what must be four weeks The chesty cough has been the underlying constant mixed in with runny nose, blocked nose, headaches, sneezing and runny eyes at various different times throughout Strangely though neither of us have felt that bad that it stopped us from doing anything The kids apart from the odd sniffle and cough have pretty much avoided it, which is a blessing Quote
Yanto Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 A friend and his misses had a cold virus before Christmas, the misses ended up in hospital with oxygen for 3 days, then turned to pneumonia, she's still poorly, now work mates are dropping with it - sometimes working from home and not interacting is a blessing i even cycled 102 miles yesterday in just over four and half hrs. Quote
Thrustyjust Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Im off work again today, was hoping to get back in today, but felt rubbish again last night and bed by 8pm. Wife has popped home for lunch and sounds terrible again with sore throat and looks like the sickness is going round in circles again in our house !!! She says I keep breathing germs on her at night. I said there is a spare room Quote
DonPeffers Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Many thanks for your kindness Scott. My peak flow is up and down but I am fine. Congratulations to Yanto on cycling 102 miles in just over 4 and a half hours at this time of year--no mean feat. I think we need Yanto's diet sheet and training regime to keep us right. I've been off the bike 20 years now and seems unlikely I'll get back on---too keen on a westie run when the sun comes out. Possibly get the car back on the road 7 weeks on Wednesday which is 1st March. Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Had some bug that lasted about 3 weeks in october, but thankfully nothing since and hopefully won;t. Sorry to hear about all you guys, hope you get rid of it soon. Quote
