Forum Software Update - Please Read This!

On Sunday 27th November 2016 at 14:00 we will be upgrading the Forum software to the latest version.

This is not just a quick patch and requires a large number of old threads to be "indexed" by the new system - what this means to you is that the Forum might not work 100% as expected for a few days as it takes a very long time for the software to transfer everything over and make it all searchable again.

Therefore, please bear with us until it all settles down and expect some odd behaviour for a few days afterwards.

The new forum will not look too much different to the old one - it's a bit like adding some new pistons and cams to your engine, it doesn't appear to have changed, but will still need bedding in and remapping!

Just to add it is likely the board will be ofline completely from Sunday through much of Monday. However to ensure you have access as soon as possible we will be providing access as soon as we can and then you will have to live with us doign the remaining steps during that week.

Been tinkering with the test site this evening and uploading pics is way better. Even added a photo taken with my phone while editing the post without saving it anywhere first

Does this mean we will be able to upload photos without using Photobucket?

Patience, Prunella, let's get the new forums running first and not promise anything until we know it works. :)

Think of the work as taking the car off the road to take the engine out, strip it, and upgrade it and then get it back in, rolling loaded and they get out on the road again.

Its a biggun, and we can't start the engine till we know we have oil pressure and checked everything.

The new forums look good so far, so full credit to Ade and Chris for their hard work.  I've tried quite a few tricks to try to break it but not succeeded...yet! :t-up:

POLITE HEADS UP: One thing you will all note when you sign in on the new forums for the first time is that the option to sign in using your User Name (account name), which we currently use, will not be available.  The new system will ask you to sign in using either your Display Name (forum handle) and Password, or the Email Address you registered your account with and your Password.

For example, in the current forum you sign in using your User Name and Password.  As I didn't want to type "Scott Young - WSCC Chairman" (my Display Name or forum handle) every time I signed in, I changed my User Name to something much shorter.

Frequently but certainly not always, your Display Name and your User Name are the same.  Unless you asked us to change it, it's whatever it was when you first signed up, and most people use the same for both.  But when the new forums come on stream, it can only be either Display Name or Registered Email Address plus your Password.  I anticipate this will catch a number of you out as you'll be used to blindly tapping in your User Name and will do so again without reading the sign-in dialogue box.

Once you sign in the first time, just tick the box next to "Remember Me" and you won't have to do it again.

Just bringing this up so you're aware of the slight difference and to prevent hassles and gripes in a few days from now.  If you have any questions on this, now is a good time to ask. :)
