DE04* Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I have been wet razor shaving for 30 years now but I want to try electric shavers.had a quick look on line found it all a bit bewildering not sure what is what. Cord or cordless, rotary or foil!,wet or dry and they range from £40 - £240. Anybody got any advice or recommendation's. Thanks. Quote
Kit Car Electronics Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Lithium battery powered Philishave is my favourite so far (paid about £80 I think) and causes the least amount of rash for me (used dry), although it tugs a bit if I don't shave every day. Battery easily lasts a week and has a few minutes fast charge mode. Razors have huge RRP's so that retailers can drop them to 50% in sales at Christmas and Father's Day... Quote
KugaWestie Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 No electric will come close to a wet shave Quote
Blatman Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I made the switch a few years ago. Discovered lecky razors give me unbelievable razor burn no matter how careful I am and no matter how much or how many pre or post shave moisturisers I used. And as noted, even brand new the dry electric never came close to a wet shave. I was back to the best wet razor even made, the Gillette Mach 3 in a little over a week 1 Quote
Kevin (Mr T) Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Surely Makita do something suitable! Quote
stephenh Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I always use a Philips triple head Philishave razor, except on the rare occasions when I choose to use a wet shave razor. Quote
dombanks Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Yrs ago I used a Philishave and found them the best without comparison. But I also found mine needed cleaning constantly and the blades went blunt every few months. Use a 5 blade thingy now and it's great. If it weren't for the cost I'd consider an eleccy one for weekends when I can't be bothered. Quote
Kevin (Mr T) Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I opted to grow a manly beard. When! Quote
tisme Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I used the Philishave every day before I retired (because it hardly ever needed charging and gave a smooth shave - most importantly no blood ) It's still going strong but I've reverted to a wet shave again as I only shave about once a week (don't have to go out so much so no need). I actually now use one of the wet razors from Aldi (3 blade system) - absolutely dirt cheap and the replacement blades cost nothing and stay sharp for a fair few shaves (whereas the Gillette / Wilkinson ones have an armed guard in supermarkets and never lasted any longer anyway imho) Tried the beard / moustache thing but too much faffffff to keep in trim and not look like a tramp Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I have always used an electric shaver and currently have a Remington twin TCT foil of unknown vintage. To get a better shave you really need (well I do) pre-electric lotion. It leaves a sort of lubricating deposit and removes the drag of the skin's natural oiliness in hotter weather. Most days I don't use lotion though. I've owned a couple of Philishaves and not found them remarkable over any other type. I don't get on with the non-foil type and found an ancient single foil Braun mains shaver to be very good, whilst their single foil rechargeable almost stalls on chin stubble. The Remington is rechargeable and I like it so much I've replaced the batteries twice rather than but a new one. I don't want to go around with bog paper stuck on my fizzog so have avoided the naked blade! Quote
dombanks Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I found foil razors just left me with a very short fuzz on my chin that was more abrasive than 40 grit Quote
