CraigHew
Again, this is a forum function, nothing to do with the website per say! Website can be found at http://www.wscc.co.uk Tiggs I appreciate that, but I always use the web-site to jump into the forums via the Boardroom. No offence to anyone but that's where I spend >99% of my website time.
CraigHew
The RR forum looks great, especially the drop down, well-organised structure

John Dolan - Wirral & North Wales AO
I appreciate that, but I always use the web-site to jump into the forums via the Boardroom. No offence to anyone but that's where I spend >99% of my website time. As CraigHew says, most people go straight to the Boardroom without looking at the main site. But for people who do look at the website it should be kept up to date. At present the Speed Series link shows the 2014 champion and a list of fixtures for 2015. Tigger
........ this is not a "Have a go at the old site" but some constructive ideas please. As CraigHew says, most people go straight to the Boardroom without looking at the main site. But for people who do look at the website it should be kept up to date. At present the Speed Series link shows the 2014 champion and a list of fixtures for 2015. Hi John, as I said, this is not a "Have a go" post. The idea of the new site is many people can update it not just one person. I'm looking for new ideas please - thanks. Just to add, the link does actually go to the 2015 results (are you sure you weren't look at the "Previous Results"?) and as soon as the fixtures are finalised (currently provisional), I will publish them
Captain Colonial
My thanks to Tiggs for doing this as it was yet another questionable idea from me. Yes, the website is ripe for a refresh due to the passage of time and changing tastes rather than quality, and Tiggs is going to be behind the changes along with Ade, but poor Tiggs asked me want we wanted and I had the bright idea of him asking the membership to get the broadest view. Please concentrate not on what you think is wrong with the current site, but on what you'd like on the new one, particularly what would attract new members and what would be better on the website than in the forums. Thanks.
Northwarks
Oh, forgot to add. I'd like to see a more detailed or extensive search facility. Not really sure what the answer to this would be, but one of my major challenges (and interests) with various forums like ours is to look and see if the problem / situation has occurred and been solved before. I guess in IT terms this is down to being able to search the forum data is clever ways. Just a thought... As Craig says - The search facility is something i use all the time to save posting repeat questions, be good if we could tag posts to enable a more detailed search facility, especially for the Tech and Parts sections, http://stackoverflow.com is a nice example where tagging really works and gives really good granular searching. Rory's Dad
+1 for the RR site. No need to re-invent the wheel. Mind you - there may be other good ones about

Yes, agreed... but this is about THE WEBSITE, not the forums. Please please please please everyone, keep the discussion strictly to the website! The forums are entirely separate. Thanks! tisme
Ok, I spent a lot of my business career reviewing other companies websites (sad I know ) and the good ones that stick out are those that have a clear and logical navigation system (left side or top line - cascading no more then three levels or so at a time otherwise the chain becomes cumbersome and tiresome). It also helps if you can display the "path" on the top line of each page (crumbs) so you can just go track back without having to go back to the main menus and start again. certainly starting with Home About History Events Membership Forum Links News Contacts Fonts should be standard and the same throughout (please - not Times New Roman !!) - colours should also be consistent and dare I say, is it time to update and refresh the logo ?? .............(maybe a members competition there?) I know from personal experience that obtaining and maintaining the content can often be a nightmare but the tools available today are quite good for devolved CMS though you still need an overall "editor" to maintain a consistent "style and language" otherwise it all starts to look disjointed. The forums provide a lot of fresh content that can be extracted and relayed back to the website but I must admit that the forum is where I go 99.9% of the time - maybe if there was a members only login area on the main website that allowed access to something that wasn't on the forums (legal and clean of course ) we'd all go there more often?. For example, I'd still like to help / contribute to some form of parts "cross reference" database that I know many others have also suggested in the past - my own Word document extends to over seven pages now of part number bits and bobs I've saved from my own car as well as extracting from the web - I'm sure others have these lists as well that would prove invaluable to existing and new members. Being a Luddite, I only use PC's to access the web but is / does / should the content be suitable for other devices and what about the use of Facebook and Twitter ? (what about them I hear you ask - the committee would have a nightmare controlling those ) but they are a good way to share information quickly without always going to the forum - though again I've seen company Facebook pages started years ago with no updates since - always a bad sign . I think there's a lot of good stuff and content on the existing website - just needs some navigation and reformatting to start with (and maybe some news colours / logo) and it would certainly look "refreshed". I guess the overriding requirement is that it's easy to navigate (including a search facility) and that there's always something "new" throughout the year. I'm happy to help in any way (design, contribute, "monkey test" etc) Colin

TableLeg
+1 for the RR site. No need to re-invent the wheel. Couldn't agree more. Very nice looking website and clearly worked on me as it had me looking through the various easy to use drop down menus.
djm
Hey DJM, I think you are referring to the Member map on this Forum which is managed by the Forum Admin. I'm referring to the Website located at http://wscc.co.uk which does actually have a different members map with location and information on meeting, times, emails and Contact numbers. Does this version of the members map on the Website cover everything you are asking for? Tiggs Thanks Tiggs, I'll wait for the "Forum Update" thread to come along! tisme
Couldn't agree more. Very nice looking website and clearly worked on me as it had me looking through the various easy to use drop down menus. I totally agree about the RR website - in fact they were on the BBC2 Antiques Road Trip show the other night and I never knew they existed until then (and that they are even in Northamptonshire !) - their "About" webpage has a lot of information that could prove thought provoking for both the club and the actual website http://www.rrec.org.uk/About_the_Club/Club_Overview.php I suspect there are probably a few more RR owners around the world (and possibly some more affluent ) but still some interesting things they do that we could adopt or emulate ?? (perhaps with some support from, or in conjunction with, the factory - especially for non "current" models ??)
XTR2Turbo
The RREC is a great member club but not cheap. The magazine is more like Evo magazine quality than a normal club mag. The club has a balance sheet value in excess of £1m. Worth a trip around Hunt house and the old factory archives they hold if you get a chance.
