Now I feel a little bit queasy, Scott!

Then my work here is complete. :t-up:

I'd rather be in hers ;-)

No offence, but I doubt I'd fancy you wearing her stockings. :(

At least one factual inaccuracy in the report:

She also drove a white Ford Transit van around the same track in under ten minutes

Even with the Dodge Viper running blocker/slipstream she was over 10 mins bridge to gantry. If the reporter had watched the video linked to he would have known. I wonder what other clear and obvious facts have been missed in that piece. But I'm sure the journo meticulously checked all of his other sources for factual accuracy...

Coulthard may have known the BBC were ditching F1 so signed up to do TG just in case he can't TUPE to Channel 4.

The article says the new show is planned for 16 episodes? I believe the reason "old" Top Gear only ever had half a dozen or so shows in a series was because of the costs of all the road trips. This suggests that there will be fewer races between cars and trains in some far away land...

Given Evans other commitments, plus very young family, I don't think he's planning to be away from home that much anyway.

We've already had one recording on-line so we know he is doing them, but he's said a few times, early on at least, that he wanted to be doing most of his broadcasted "work" on the day of filming, the natural assumption is of him primarily as anchor/links from the studio, with or without the others, with the bulk of VT's from the others and maybe a few choice ones from Chris himself. But that's assuming a vaguely TG or Fifth Gear format.

I did have one daft thought the other night - based purely on the names in the article; but I do hope he's not gone too far to the petrol head side! Whilst that might be great in the short term, it will kill the program quickly if they can't find that magic formula that appeals to the non-petrol heads too. After all, we're only a small market - just look at how Fifth Gear has got passed around from pillar to post.

Re: Sabine. Just putting this out there, she's average looking at best.

Never mind that, he got the colour of the van wrong!

I'm deeply unedited about Sabine joining based on previous presenting but perhaps she had improved. It's not like she'll lack the driving talent.

Chris Harris deserves a big break. He's a proper journalist, can handle a car better than most but doesn't think he's a racing driver, and knows how to make a video for most of the petrol head demographic. Not sure that will translate to the TG target audience (assuming that hasn't changed).

Chris Evans knows how to put a show together at least as well as Jeremy Clarkson. Will his style translate? Not sure but I'd be more confident than I would if roles reversed and they gave Clarkson the Radio2 breakfast show! :d

What people have long forgotten, and need to remember before they inevitably slate the first series of new new Top Gear, is that the old line up didn't appear until series 2 and then took time to build the on screen chemistry we all enjoyed. I'm not sure the new line up will quite get there but they need to be given time.

Sadly you don't get that sort of time nowadays.

Though many of our favourite series from the past took one, two or in rare cases even three seasons to really find their feet and for casts to gel and settle in, we live in the days of programs made only a bare minis of episodes ahead of broadcast, where broadcasters can and do cancel things mid run.

DC never was quite with it but has improved with experience, and Sabine is probably too much of a driver and not enough "lad".

But then Clarkson, hamster and captain slow were pretty appalling 10 years ago.

If Evans can get the team to work, then we could have a proper car program.  I used to think he was an idiot, but he made lots of money, and then spent it on Ferraris, so reluctantly he gets my vote over the "Doncaster Advertiser" journalist.

The Doncaster Advertiser journalist is at least a professional journalist and has been a car specialist for well over two decades.

Most of Chris Evans portfolio is in the music (and related) business and as far as I know none of that has required "journalism". As a petrolhead he is but an enthusiastic amateur, albeit one with enough cash to indulge himself. In and of itself earning a lot of money is no guarantee of anything other than knowing what and when to buy or sell.

Thevonly onevid be looking forward to is chris harris. Evans just seems to grate and sabine doesnt do it for me at all other than apparently she is a great driver. I dont really know anything about her so will take peoples word for it. Im guessing it will be a clunky bag of crap to start off with.

Remember the whiny fat bloke who was on tg to start with.

As has been pointed out, TG was pretty bad in the first few seasons until they hit a rhythm and became confident as individual presenters. There were a number of charmed seasons after that. But IMHO, the turning point was the appalling Indian special, which was around the time Jeremy's personal life fell apart, which I doubt was a coincidence. The last seasons of TG were really quite poor but saved by the excellent production values and crew. Many of us had been saying it was time to put it out to pasture anyway.

Of course, one might argue that Amazon might have approached JC about jumping ship and working for them, and JC punching his producer was intentional so he could get fired and walk away without hassle...

New TG will struggle for sure, at least at first. Sabine is experienced in TV work as she did quite a lot in Germany on a car show there, and we know she can run rings around CE on a track. I'm looking forward to straight battles between Sabine and DC on the track.

In a straight dice DC would kick her ass. Say what you want about his F1 success or lack thereof but he was an F1 driver on merit and that sort of talent and skill is extraordinary. I don't think Sabine has even come close to a super-licence on merit alone.

Probably, but I'd like to see them go toe to toe at the Nurburgring.
