Captain Colonial
Liking it... i was thinking of a stoneleigh project... A supreme challenge in logistics! If everything were in place by the end of March, and probably a dry run to screw it together once first to make sure it's doable a second time in 1.5 days at Stoneleigh, it would be an epic indoor stand attraction. Of course if it were a track only car, the complete PITA of IVA and registration would be avoided too. I know you lot have the skill...and I hereby challenge you to pull together and make it happen. Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Oh that's a master stroke of an idea John. Gives the team the "winter" season to assemble all the required parts donations, that can then be taken directly to Stoneleigh.
John K
The avatar says it all... I cannot say no to a Panda... It is a truly epic suggestion. Plus points are: We are all in one place. We will have the space. There will be loads of 'odds and sods' suppliers who we can put the emotional squeeze on for donations. Have to assume there will be technical experts all over the shop. And there is a deadline to keep us honest..! Negative points are: There is a deadline, I hate deadlines, I bought a Westie to get away from work. We need to know well in advance what we will get as donations so we know well in advance if we will need to buy stuff or possibly abort. And this will not be some BBC make over show where we can fudge the end result... So in principle, are we going for a track car only to avoid the legislation..? What date is Stoneleigh in 2015? John Williams (Panda) - Joint Manchester AO
and for that.... i will donate the diff and the roll bar, can we start a thread for the parts that the "need a name car" needs
John K
Just wondering, is it possible to have a forum sub area for this topic? There are loads of things we need to agree on and also organise like why we are doing this, who we are doing it for, the parts needed, logistics and admin. If we have threads for that in this current area, they will get swamped pretty quickly. Can we do polls? It would be nice if all the members who wanted to, could express their opinions as to what charity we support etc This will take a monumental amount of good will from members so we all need to feel part of it and that our opinions are heard / count. Just my $0.02...
John K
Not suggesting a name for the car, but for the project how about... Project Frank(enstein) We are cobbling something together from bits and there is a good chance a village or two will get trampled on... Andy Banks
Liking it... i was thinking of a stoneleigh project... Top idea. We have already booked the same sized marquee for outdoors and not 100% sure there would be space (inclusive of keeping the public out of harm) there. However... We are hoping to get the extra space in the interior again and this idea sits very nicely smack bang right there, especially with the likes of NMS, Playskool, et al 100ft away. Having never built myself, I'd need a view of what really goes into it all and what measures people take to ensure safety and what kind of power and lighting we'd need... Overall, if all the bits are available, I don't see any problems Happy to support this from the angle of getting everything needed in place with the management at Stoneleigh and Grosvenor - let me know by PM if you need anything specific.
John K
Will we need compressed air for tools or anything else? What about fluids, will we need to dispose of oil or hydraulics? I'm guessing Stoneleigh will have rules about 'hazardous substances', for example will we be allowed to slop petrol about the place?
Mark (smokey mow)
This thread reminds me of the Austin 7 built at the Beaulieu auto jumble a few years back using parts sourced and purchased on the day from the stalls. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/4752610/Austin-Seven-challenge.html

Fluids can easily be added after it's finished

Fluids can easily be added after it's finished Monday 15:00 at the Marquee. Now there's a deadline!
