I wouldn't worry about what others think, the well informed will know that a Kia make good cars. Great equipment levels, manufacturers warranty etc.  The top end of your budget may even stretch to a fairly recent model Sportage if you take a look.

So given this, I think the chairman was actually wrong!

Whoa whoa whoa a minute here... I'm afraid you're the one in the wrong.  I think you'll find under Unwritten Rule 14.2.1 of the WSCC Forum Regulations Book™, "It is the understood duty of any member asking advice on which new / used (non-Westfield) vehicle to purchase that said member must leave the thread to reach a state of chaos and disagreement before purchasing a car that either no one recommended and / or that was completely contrary to the description and requirements in the original post."  It's there - look it up.

What - you don't have the book?  No problems, they're for sale.  Just send me £100 and I'll send you a copy* - no loo should be without it.

*Please allow between a fortnight and a millennia for delivery.  If you have not received it after this period of time, you may have been had.  No refunds will be given.  Telephone tech support available at £10 per minute or a flat rate of £1,000 per hour.

Beamers are great cars ( I have had 523I, 120d, 530d and best of all 330d tourer) and tow well but in the ice and snow they can be lethal and a right pain the the rear to drive. AND parts are not cheap either!
