  2. Yep, a great well planned run as usual @Julie Hall - Peak District AO Thank you Here's a few of my pics: @CosKev, called to see if I was 'allowed out to play' My youngest, Charlotte was at a friends after a sleep over (Don't get the naming as they always come back very tired! 😄), I TXT'd to advise we were coming past and she took this great phone pic and waved: The usual game of 'follow the leader' Parked up at the Yonderman Cafe, Nr. 3. Straight at it, Trevor Trouble bombed all my photo's, clearly it was going to be a naughty day, even though I just could not get my hands on the steering wheels, there were 2 to have a go at today as well. Dancing in Ashbourne for the panorama shot And finally I got my photo 8 cars and 9 people, all the girls have gone now the temperatures have dropped. Martin, Andy, Scott, Trevor, Andrew, Ian, Kev and us all met at Ashbourne and after a warm in M&S we set off up t'North. Twisting and turning along the sweeping bends of the rather wet tarmac, I mixed it up a bit by turning right in Bakewell for a change, we soon arrived at the Yondermann cafe. There were lots of bikes - good - but that meant the cafe was actually full. Right, outside then lads, nobody protested, so outside we sat. BillyPee joined us too. Trevor and Ian guarding their steering wheels Some very large breakfasts came out, which we ate while enjoying the lovely countryside views Andy has a bit of a reputation for being able to eat, he did an eggcellent job of living up to it The Yondermann Car Park Next, we went along slightly drier tarmac with more of those sweeping bends, until we got to Flash nr Buxton, which is the highest village in the UK at 1519ft. It gets it's fair share of rain up there and the cafe is in the proverbial a... hole of nowhere, so once we turned off the village road the tarmac became rather wet. We arrived at Gradbach Mill Cafe and parked up. It is outside seating only and unsurprisingly there was no-one there. It closes for the season at the end of October so I was keen to squeeze a visit in here. I was cold when we got there and as I was queuing I was shivering, so it was lucky that I saw the notice offering hot water bottles and blankets, of course I took the opportunity. The cake arrived, lotus biscotti, nutella and victoria sponge cake, oh my. Andy, remember him? eats a lot! that's him, well he had to have a hot chocolate with marshmellows as well as cake, as well as a 3 egg breakfast earlier 😁 The jam was very jammy, I know, I tried it! We all soon polished the lot off. Look at them, guarding those steering wheels still I see. We can't drive past a mill without photographing it though can we? Here we are, proud drivers of our beautiful cars. Thank you to Glen, our only passenger today, for taking the photo. I remembered Nigels advice and got down on the floor to take my photo Ian's photo will be much better than mine though, so good that he had to have a lie down after taking it We were all ready to say goodbye and head off home, until Kev revealed that the Peak District group now has another Duratec. Duratecs are kind of powerful enough, but this one is a 3.5l, V6 out of a Jaguar S Type. Kev had replaced his bike engine with this 200 and umpty (someone correct me please) bhp monster. The engine bay was just all engine. As we set off I found that I had a flat battery, well 2 actually, my left and my right heated glove had now given up. I read the instructions when I got home and it says the first charge is 12 hours, not the half hour that I gave them this morning, oops. It has been a fun day, with lots of giggles, great roads and great company. It was dark when we finally came in after cleaning all that mud off the car, outside from 8.30am - 6.30pm happy days xxxxxx

  8. As part of trying to fix my starting issue I changed the starter to a Powerlite uprated unit which apparently uses considerably less cranking power whilst turning the engine over quicker. Cost £225. Also upgraded the supply cables with the help of @IanK (Bagpuss) and @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary. Now turns over so quick it reads on the Rev counter!

  15. Due to open in April 2020, a new car museum is being built in Derbyshire, it is located approx a 15 minute drive South of where we meet for the Peak District runs in Matlock. It will include a display of 100 cars and there will be a 'Drive Dad's Car' driving experience along a mile long route. The exhibition will be called 'The Great British Car Journey - when Britain ruled the road' A decked seating area will overlook the river Derwent and there will be a cafe, gift shop and workshop on site, with parking provided for 65 cars. I will be proud to take my British Westfield to this place. Glen hopes there will be a Westfield included in the driving experience and he might actually get to drive one!!!

  16. It is with a heavy heart but the time has come for my highly successful and much loved Westfield to go to a new home due to my moving onto single seaters. I have had the car for 20 years and it has been developed and improved in every aspect. During my ownership I have won the Westfield Speed Series outright (and come 2nd overall 5 times), won the British Sprint Junior challenge, had uncountable class wins and set numerous class records in both road going and modified classes at numerous countrywide circuits. No expense has been spared during my ownership in keeping it in tip top condition and specification and is ready to turn up and win in its new owners hands. The asking price no way reflects the amount of time, effort and money that I have lavished on it over the years. Road registered (but currently SORN) and complete with MSA competition car passport Specification below:- Chassis Strengthened and uprated 1989 narrow body SE chassis by Procomp Full Caged roll cage Wide track rose jointed front suspension with aluminium hubs Quantum double adjustable dampers correctly valved for car 2.2 quick steering rack HiSpec 4 pot calipers and lightweight discs Aluminium rear calipers and lightweight discs Bias floor mounted pedal box pedal box Engine Dry sumped Puma 1700 engine built and maintained by Protune running on Jenvey TBs and Emerald K6 ECU producing circa 220bhp / 150 ft/lb torque and revving freely and safely to near 9000rpm Ultralight steel flywheel with 7.25" Quarter Master clutch. 17. The first or second weekend of October is when Australia and New Zealand comes to a standstill to watch the V8 Supercars race the mighty Bathurst 1000 (km) on the fast and formidable Mount Panorama circuit - the two countries are like a ghost town as everyone is at home or anywhere there is a TV! Mount Panorama is 6.2 mile long 'mountain' circuit - from it's low point of the track to the top is a 175 metre elevation, at one point coming downhill a 1:6 radiant, and down Conrod Straight the four-door V8 sedans (saloons!) get up to 190mph, and that's after they put a kink in 3/4 down the straight in 1987 to lessen the accidents at the 90deg left at the bottom (Murrays). When there is no racing, it's a public road, and is the most policed road in Australia - the cops out to catch anyone who thinks they are the next Peter Brock! The big race is tomorrow (Sun) but qualifying and support races are Fri and Saturday, and already there's been a big off at Murrays in the Toyota 86 race. Watch below...

  19. The reality is that there is not as much profit in the actual car sale as there used to be so they try, desperately, to get you on finance as they get a kick back from the finance company. They also get commission for gap insurance and things like the paint protection they buy in for £30 or £40 and try and sell to to you for hundreds.

  23. 12 October 2019 https://news.sky.com/video/moment-eliud-kipchoge-made-history-11833466 Eliud Kipchoge becomes the first to run a marathon in under 2 hours; his time was 1hr 59 mins 40.2 secs.----incredible. I watched this on Sky this morning and it was emotional I don't mind admitting. Big congratulations to Eliud Kipchoge.

  25. @AndrewBClarke starter flies round at a great rate of knots now! I'll leave him to describe what it is. I've tried to record it, however it fired up rather quickly as we'd not been stopped too long. I'll try again next time I see him!

  28. Highlights are on Freeview channel 64 Freesports channel 10.30am to 12.30 next Sat 19 Oct 2019 and i've set the recorder. Many years ago on holiday in Oz i drove a couple of laps of Mount Panorama but only in a road car and the speed limit was 30mph IIRC. At least is was free as it's a public road. The 1 in 6 downhill gradient at The Dipper is great.
