  1. We collected £26-27 for St Luke's Hospice, thanks to all who contributed, especially the three people who put £5 each in an envelop on the Sunday. Jeff.

  3. Woke up, slightly hungover after a night in London... Had a shower with no falling over or rampant headache disasters. All was looking well for the day. Went to put my under cecks on, opened a new pack, put them on and fell over... Looked at under cecks, tried again, fell over... Started to wonder if the night had been better than I remember, tried again and fell over... Had a GOOD look at the new under cecks and some a*****e at M&S had decided to move the label (which since the dawn of ******g time had been at the back) to the left hand side. So I was merrily putting the label at the back and wondering why my legs wouldn't go in...

  4. It is Chris. The Corse bit comes from when I had a CAE Corse S Stratos rep. Crap screen name really, but ISTR fatbloke had already gone My conversion was a bit multi-stage really. First was fitting a spare Emerald ECU I had kicking about, as you do...that initially just did sparks on the Xflow. Next step was to put some GSXR ITBs on in place of the 40DCOEs. Last stage was to pull out the trusty Xflow and 2000E gearbox and replace them with a Type 9 and the Zetec, just swapped the ECU, coil pack & TBs onto the 'new' motor. The starter woes then began and after a couple of 'seasons' messing about with assorted heat shielding I finally stumped up for the Brise and its worked perfectly ever since. Somewhat ironic in that the initial reason for putting the Emerald on was to make starting the Xflow a bit easier. It was the usual 11:1 CR, BVH, Kent 234 cam recipe and was a pig to start at times due to the high CR and static advance. Putting the 3D ignition on with about 5 degrees advance for cranking really helped. This is a well proven swap so there will be loads of us who have done it. I did notice the change in balance of the car, but it wasn't too bad and the extra power, torque and refinement of the Zetec more than made up for it. Ours is purely road use and other than the odd occasion where I had to resist the urge to stick a supercharger on it, we've been absolutely delighted with the Zetec. Other than the Westfield exhaust and the ITB injection of course, it's box-stock and makes a gnats under 170bhp. Utterly reliable too. Already having a Type 9 in there means that bit less bother for you to sort out too, which is nice. Having realised it's now 11 years since putting it in there, it's probably about time it had another cam belt as I only recall changing it once since first putting it in. Oops. I clearly recall the last time - a fellow member who lived closely came to watch/assist as he had the same job to do on his and hadn't done one. Hope my 'instruction' wasn't too disappointing for him! ISTR not being particularly coherent on the day..... The 11 years probably explains why it's looking a bit gruby and tired under the bonnet too. Maybe I'll find some time to give it some TLC soon. Never get to my next build project at this rate..... Anyhoo, keep us posted on progress - pictures please

  5. Welcome to the club Biggles. 180 plus is doable from a crossflow, but in normal aspiration with be a dog to drive . As for forced, they are few and far between and people use different engines to achieve that BHP, as cheaper and easier. But dont let that put you off trying !! You cant beat a crossflow at full chat. See below for an 1800 cc AX all steel with a 254 cam.

  8. I agree that airfields although cheeper are not like a real track. I mean by this the camber/hills and pits. Go around Donnington, Cadwell or Oulton and you will see what I mean.

  9. Hi Terry, The pipes are 12mm bore from the fuel tank to the pump, and 8mm for all others. For a "Build manual" set-up you will need 1 length of 12 mm(fuel tank to pump) and 7 lengths of 8 mm. Pressure side is fuel pump to steel pipe, steel pipe to filter, filter to T-piece, T-piece to fuel rail, T-piece to pressure regulator. Return side is pressure regulator to steel pipe and steel pipe to fuel tank. James

  10. There is defiantly a difference with all Westys on track as we have far more consideration for other drivers/cars. Now on the other hand with the likes of BMW/AUDI/4 wheel drive nutters to name a few on track, well you make your own minds up.

  12. You can't trust the specialists either. I had chemotherapy a couple of years ago and, as you probably know, it can have some nasty side effects. I spent four hours having the stuff pumped into my arm and then I was sent home. That night I started throwing up and feeling extremely ill. This went on through the night until I collapsed on the lounge floor in the morning and I really thought I was dying. I rang the hospital who sent a taxi immediately to pick me up. I was admitted to hospital and ended up in there for 8 days. Turns out that the chemo people should have issued me with four separate medications to counteract the chemo drugs and they forgot!! I decided not to have any more chemo after that! I'm all clear now but this was a horrible experience. I'm glad you were safe in the end, Scott but that was a scary one!

  14. I hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but I think there's a fair amount of enthusiasm for ideas like this at committee level, and I've noticed some of the newer members, or in some cases, existing members, but with new builds in the last few years, do seem to be quite keen on the TD's, so it may well be an idea with legs! The club has I believe, done some big event style club only TD's in the past, (quite a bit in the past), but once things like insurance costs were figured in, towards the end, the amount of money the club had to put in really passed the level at which you'd say we were just subsidising it. That said, ideas such as Barney's have been done in the past, too; and worked extremely well, where the WSCC has a sort of block booking within an existing organized event. The committee is ALWAYS keen to hear proposals for new and or different events for members, and we do like to, (hope to) strike a balance between the different sort of events that different members enjoy, we'd love to have something for everyone!

  15. We have just attended a Bristol Pegasus MC track day at Castle Combe as part of the Cooper Registers 'Coopers at Combe' event. Essentially they just organise within the Cooper club who wants to attend and agree with Bristol Pegasus MC a reserved number of places, which get released on general sale if not filled. On the day, which is a sessioned track day not open pitlane, all the Minis line up together and the organisers then arrange it so that we go out together and there are only Minis on the track. It's a brilliant way to do it and means those who wouldn't normally take their car on track for fear of other machinery/maniacs are more confident to have a go. Could be something for the WSCC to look at?

  17. originally the 1700cc crossflow was popular but then when the factory started to make and sell kits for the Zetec 1800cc engine it was thought that it probably had the same power as a tuned crossflow and so our limit was raised to 1800cc. I personally think we would be better dropping it to 1700cc like other clubs so our classes are the same in capacity

  18. Ah, good to be forewarned. Reading your first post properly(!) I now see your comment about the heat. Unfortunately, I don't have any info handy on the starter - I'll have a look when I get home, probably have the invoice with the paperwork for the car. Just struck me it must be getting on for 10 years ago that I did the conversion on ours. Wow....or should that be 'GULP'?

  27. The thing is though, Westfields aren't transport, they're a hobby. So as long as they fulfil your requirements as a hobby, be it racing, driving, polishing or tinkering, it doesn't matter, they work for you.
