  1. The ten weeks of waiting since I placed my order came to an end on Wednesday when I picked up my Special Edition kit! Have to say for a lifelong wizened old cynic I was highly impressed with the professionalism and efficiency the Westfield staff exhibited without sacrificing anything of the enthusiasm and friendliness experienced at the recent open day. Chris, Hanna and Kyle, the three I mostly dealt with on Wednesday, deserve special mention as they explained the process, helped to pack the Van and then patiently went through the paperwork. Included in the paperwork was a detailed Bill of Material, broken down by sub-section which additionally identified which part was in which - of the many! - boxes; wasn't expecting that but know just how useful it is going to be. Yes, there were a few missing parts, but really not that many and none that will impact the initial stages of the build; in fact I got an email from Hanna on the Thursday telling me some of the parts were already being FedEx’d and should arrive on Friday, which they did. Think many of us are quick to criticise when things go wrong, and I’m as guilty of that as anyone, but conversely we should give praise where praise is due and think Westfield deserve a big pat on the back for the way the whole collection process was handled. Now I’ve just got to assemble it, doubtless upgrading along the way which I’m sure at some point will invoke WBT#16. Cheers John.

  3. Those reports will get no mainstream press and if anyone brings them up they will be shouted down. There are too many people at the top of the greasy pole that is climate change science. None of them could afford to make one slip as if one goes they all go. So even when people do question the theories that are seen as facts, they gang up shout loud and the greedy politicians just hear the loudest voice, with the best trip and that becomes the policy. If climate change is so bad, why do these scientists all insist on travelling to exotic locations to have meetings where technology is there to have meetings from a desk. Well East Anglia university is not as nice as a beach resort in some far flung country now is it.

  6. For those lovers of a different era of motorsport, there's a documentary on legendary Jim Clark on Sunday. 10pm BBC4. Listed as "a Portrait of..." Style program, with lots of footage. It follows "Hunt v Lauda: F1's Greatest Racing Rivals" at 9 pm on the same channel.

  7. Jedm, Pleased to hear that the collection process all went well. Will you be posting a build log and don't forget to store the fibreglass bits in a manner which will ensure they stay in shape and not relax as sometimes happens, but it is reversible as per Daves recent warming of the Cheshire atmosphere. 9. They are most likely Mk 2 Ford Escort, but there is a chance they are Mk 1 Escort. The difference is that Mk 2 cylinders are bolted firmly to the back plate and the hand brake actuating lever is a separate item. Mk 1 cylinders slide in the back plate and the hand brake actuating lever is built in to the brake cylinder. There is a very small possibility that they are Mk2 Ford Cortina, but I don't think these axle components were ever used much. Westfield used bits from any of these axles to make up the early independent suspensions. This is a good web site for identifying brake bits. It has drawings you can compare http://brakeparts.co.uk/?_escaped_fragment_=/shop/FORD#!/shop/FORD. Found out my live axle is a Mk1 Escort using it.

  16. First things first, here's hoping Lewis qualifies in pole or 2nd. AD not the greatest overtaking track in the calendar, so he needs a solid trouble-free qualifying tomorrow. Also good to see Jules breathing on his own and repatriated back to France. Unconscious still yes, but it's a small step forward which can only be good.

  17. Very few of us enloy such luxury For my first event i hired a trailer and talked a friend into towing it for me after that I bought one myself and towed it behind my golf. The most comfort I have overnight is either a small tent or a cheep travel Inn room. I may not have the most expensive gear or the right car to be competitive but I don't care. For me it's all about just being there, the experience and most of all having some fun.
