In the absence of the real thing, the postman bought this the other day. Obviously it’s the Caterham kit, but as it’s yellow and black I had to have it. Rejigged it so the exhaust exits on the correct side (Zetec) and lost all the Caterham badging and I’ll probably make a windscreen for it, but it’s pretty close to what we’ll be driving in a couple of weeks (hopefully!)6 points

You know how Westfields accelerate like a missile and go round corners like they're on rails? Kinda the opposite of that. Still a hoot though.5 points

Update. I took it to central garage in Brixham and they got it up on the ramp and we all had a good look at chassis and suspension. Simon , the owner sprints and hill climbs and has his own 7 style car. He could see no damage to any of the chassis or suspension, given the damage to the tyre he recommended a new wheel just in case. So I have agreed a cash in lieu settlement. They agreed with my numbers for spare parts and for my labour i used the build manual to justify 22 hours work and I went with £50 an hour , which they accepted. It's not my fault but they still kept excess of £200, so I will use legal insurance to get that back. I have ordered a new ns rear wing from westfield chesil, due end August. In mean time starting to strip it down. Have a look at my build diary for progress.2 points

I have long been despairing of the decline in standards of written and spoken English. This is magnified when I see stuff like this on the BBC website... Took them a couple of hours to correct it but I am staggered that with all the various tools available how this stuff ever gets to publicly viewable pages, especially given the sensitive nature of the story.2 points

I have 16 cars booked in for this, hopefully the allocated spot (parking zone 4) will be big enough. We'll have to park up close to each other. On arrival, let the marshals know that you are with the WSCC and they'll point you in the right direction. Anyone else wanting to come are more than welcome.2 points

That’s true to a point, but if you’ve ever been properly strapped into a race car by the pit crew, it would shock you just how tight “tightly strapped in” means. I doubt any owners will strap themselves in that tight while using on the road. Also, keep in mind, with some belts, the material they’re made of is able to stretch/deform somewhat to help absorb some of the initial shock of a bad impact.1 point

Hi, Totally new to the Westfield world so I'm not very knowledgeable on things but you said that the roll hoop might have moved ? If this is the case how do the roll hoops stand-up to a more heavy impact or even a roll-over ? Interested to know as looking to get a Westfield soon and was considering one with a cage as I think they look/feel safer. Good luck with the repair and hope it all goes smoothly.1 point

My history is full of horrific reliability, a few car crashes, being seduced by looks over function, massive expense, and desperately high levels of maintenance..... Oh, I forgot we were talking about cars for a moment! 😂1 point

Mine's burned into my memory VW Beetle - I can still disassemble and reassemble one in the dark Ford Escort - 4 door 1.1 engine - not one of the good ones Ford Capri - you were never sure if it was going to go through the hedge backwards or forwards Mini - fond memories of bypass hoses Triumph TR 7V8 - used to eat front wheel bearings for some reason; made me loathe pop up headlights Seat Ibiza - pre VW days; easily the most unreliable car I've ever owned and I've owned some right ****boxes Mini Metro - burst into flames one day UVA Fugitive - even less practical than a westie Ford Fiesta - bought it with Barclaycard points; cracking car; ran it into the ground Mini Moke - bizarrely went fantastically well in the snow while simultaneously being totally impractical for the snow Scimitar SS1 - underrated flying machine with the endearing habit of the front wishbones falling apart while driving at speed Land Rover Series 2 lightweight - I've had cars that let in water in through the roof but this is the only one that let water in through the floor - burst into flames one day (another Rover - coincidence?) Porsche 968 - easily the most reliable car I've ever owned Smart Car - I think the engine recalls got into double figures Mazda MX5 - fantastic car but turned into a brown doily Audi A3 - not worth anything but won't die Westie 😁1 point

Thanks guys. I remember that trip. I was picking up a fibreglass body and extra wide arches for myself and seats for Rab. I was knackered, down and up overnight with a few hours kip on the bench seat of the transit I was driving. Still got the parts collected but hopefully they will be fitted this year!1 point

Our car won the competition at the museum and the official photo's are in. The Great British Masters of the Marque, sponsored by Wera Tools, not bad for a 22 year old car that has done 76,000 miles, the polishing was worth it Glen! The prize It's the attention to detail also, little things like replacing the steering rack bushes. Ordered one day on-line from Westfield Chesil Ltd and delivered the next day, I might add, fantastic service. These are the 'before' photo's The 'after' photo's The one on the left was a very tight fit and will have a bit of attention tomorrow before replacing the nose cone. Your turn to win the competition next year!1 point
