Ready for summer after a few jobs over winter, new wide track kit, new engine and gearbox mounts, new timing and aux belts, oil and filter change, new windscreen, new tyres, various new fasteners and a new plate is the cherry on top👌 I have also just ordered a new soft bits half hood today, can’t wait for the better weather, hopefully……10 points

I can’t tolerate the cake eating competition from the two other Andy’s @aeg or @Andy Westwood now they have come out of hibernation so will save myself for another day and bail. They have been saving themselves all winter rather than practicing the cake eating like me so I simply doubt if I could keep up.4 points

Hello, Even from a young age my dream car has been a 7 type car. Just the rawness of it, the simplicity and the power to weight had me. There just never seemed to be a right time to do it, too young, too poor, too impractical, kids, wife, no garage etc. etc. so last week I just went and did it, I just bought one on eBay "sight unseen" and had it delivered. Sorry to say it is not a Westfield but I just couldn't resists this thing (Just lost 90% of you there). If you are still here then thank you, I had looked for a Westy for a few weeks and was very close to buying one that has been around this forum for a while but the owner just seemed to love it and I really felt he didn't actually want to part with it, so whilst trying to find a dry day to drive it I kept looking and found something that just blew me away. On Thursday I called the owner to arrange to see it at the weekend but he was already committed to a handful of other people for the weekend so I just decided JFDI, I offered him what he wanted and arranged a Shiply driver to collect it. (Highly recommend the service). I am now the owner of a "Watson 7" a car built by someone called Chris Watson who managed to successfully register the car under his own brand... I believe her to be a self built chassis with an mk1 MX5 donor and a Haynes roadster wide body panel kit first registered in 2015. (Any information about the car is highly welcomed). I have searched for generic kit car forums but find the WSCC to be the best place to engage with enthusiasts. As with all 7 type cars there are modifications I wish to make. Primarily the switch from a carbon fibre aero screen to windscreen as I am not keen on wearing a lid. Naively I thought this would be a simple and low cost change to make, not thinking that a windscreen requires wiper motor assemblies, arms, wipers, washer pump and jets etc. As the first project I am undertaking I would really appreciate some advice/support from the forum. I have a degree in design engineering (graduated in 2010) I have since worked in the composite industry for 15 years with wealth of knowledge in FRP GRP production. Please do point me in the right direction for 1, how I can swap out the aero screen for a windscreen and 2, how I can assist with anything FRP GRP related. (Can't figure out how to add pictures yet) All the best1 point

As you've got silicone hoses - make sure whatever coolant you use is compatible - see this for details1 point

Thanks @John Dolan - Wirral & North Wales AO What ignition are you running? I notice the vacuum advance taken from inlet #4. Does this help in the mid range as I've left it disconnected so only using the centrifugal adv. Otherwise a very similar setup. Also, did you use a standard cam to pass emissions test or did you manage to (de)tune a fast road cam? I've managed to find a reputable Weber specialist who has MOT spec meters and provides a mobile service so I can be more confident of getting the car through IVA next time.1 point

Hi Charlie, despite our collective age, we're not very mature in the Essex group, so you might fit in better than you'd expect 🙂 We meet on the second Sunday of the month in Battlesbridge (not a crazy trek from you) but we'll be out in North Essex through the summer I'm sure. If you'd like to pm me your mobile I can add you to the Essex area WhatsApp groups and you can judge for yourself... Hope to meet you soon, Mike oh, and I picked up my kit when I was 24, which doesn't feel that long ago 😞1 point

We will hopefully see you there Julie, but in the SLK as the Westy needs an MOT.1 point

Hi Charlie I’m in Fordham (Essex) so not too far away. I’m not as young as you (47) and these days I’m without a Westfield but I do however have a garage full of single seaters and a tractor which occupy most of my time these days. when I’m not in the garage I’m either on here or at a car show 😄 I’ve not been to a meet since I sold my car, but they’re a great bunch and if you do get the chance I can recommend going along to a meet. I’ve been around Westfield’s for over 15years so always happy to help and advise if you ever get stuck.1 point

hiya Edumundz, congratulations on your impulsive but, you’ll see not all members are Westy owners & the club is inclusive to all kit owners. Adding photos are easy, just click on “Add Files” below the post you’re writing & choose the photo & simply “add” & it miraculously appears 🤣 can’t help with screen, wipers/motor etc but many owners go the opposite route if removing screen & ancillaries to go to aero screens - so I would think there could be someone with a complete set - but check a Westy screen will fit first - if a SEiW (wide body) will fit, then post a “wanted add” under the forum. hope this helps & that we can see you around at shows or meets cheers Phil R PS where you based?1 point

To add onto the ARB controversy... There is no good reason to not be using the correct Antiroll bar. And I'll insist CORRECT, in the front. Rear isn't quite that necessary till you push it to the limit. But an ARB with the right stiffness range in the front is a TOOL to balance your car's behaviour. Softened to the very limit will control the roll a little bit (not a bad thing) and be very very unobtrusive to the natural behaviour of the car, while allowing you to stiffen the front end roll progressively to play with the under/over steer transition of the car, and sharpening/quickening the weight transfer into the outer wheels. Having said that, the wrong ARB, will completely ruin the front end of the car. @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO1 point
