Hello, Even from a young age my dream car has been a 7 type car. Just the rawness of it, the simplicity and the power to weight had me. There just never seemed to be a right time to do it, too young, too poor, too impractical, kids, wife, no garage etc. etc. so last week I just went and did it, I just bought one on eBay "sight unseen" and had it delivered. Sorry to say it is not a Westfield but I just couldn't resists this thing (Just lost 90% of you there). If you are still here then thank you, I had looked for a Westy for a few weeks and was very close to buying one that has been around this forum for a while but the owner just seemed to love it and I really felt he didn't actually want to part with it, so whilst trying to find a dry day to drive it I kept looking and found something that just blew me away. On Thursday I called the owner to arrange to see it at the weekend but he was already committed to a handful of other people for the weekend so I just decided JFDI, I offered him what he wanted and arranged a Shiply driver to collect it. (Highly recommend the service). I am now the owner of a "Watson 7" a car built by someone called Chris Watson who managed to successfully register the car under his own brand... I believe her to be a self built chassis with an mk1 MX5 donor and a Haynes roadster wide body panel kit first registered in 2015. (Any information about the car is highly welcomed). I have searched for generic kit car forums but find the WSCC to be the best place to engage with enthusiasts. As with all 7 type cars there are modifications I wish to make. Primarily the switch from a carbon fibre aero screen to windscreen as I am not keen on wearing a lid. Naively I thought this would be a simple and low cost change to make, not thinking that a windscreen requires wiper motor assemblies, arms, wipers, washer pump and jets etc. As the first project I am undertaking I would really appreciate some advice/support from the forum. I have a degree in design engineering (graduated in 2010) I have since worked in the composite industry for 15 years with wealth of knowledge in FRP GRP production. Please do point me in the right direction for 1, how I can swap out the aero screen for a windscreen and 2, how I can assist with anything FRP GRP related. (Can't figure out how to add pictures yet) All the best3 points

I was looking at getting a double bubble for a little car I have but if they are not available to purchase looks like I will have to make a tool.3 points

To add onto the ARB controversy... There is no good reason to not be using the correct Antiroll bar. And I'll insist CORRECT, in the front. Rear isn't quite that necessary till you push it to the limit. But an ARB with the right stiffness range in the front is a TOOL to balance your car's behaviour. Softened to the very limit will control the roll a little bit (not a bad thing) and be very very unobtrusive to the natural behaviour of the car, while allowing you to stiffen the front end roll progressively to play with the under/over steer transition of the car, and sharpening/quickening the weight transfer into the outer wheels. Having said that, the wrong ARB, will completely ruin the front end of the car. @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO2 points

Hi all, Maiden post as I thought I should introduce myself and the car properly! I've been a member for a while, but have been lurking as the fear of taking a much older kit through IVA was quite daunting! The car is original wide body kit type, pre SVA with 1600CVH on twin 40s. Basically the car got built twice - 90s early 2000s, stored in dry garage, then all major items reworked over last couple of years to meet IVA spec. Usual suspects, loom sleeved in convoluted tube and additional clips, IVA fog mod, collapsible steering column, side repeaters moved to cycle wings, fuel tank protection, lights, switches and protrusions all blunted, etc. D-day has now been and gone and although it failed, I'm more positive it will soon be blatting round the white peak area. The main failure was due to the emissions testing computer not wanting to work so the test had to be aborted. I really enjoyed the shakedown run to the test centre on a clear 3degC morning as the sun rose. Beat going to work anyway! However, this gave rise to the 2nd test failure as the sump gasket was now weeping which was promptly spotted as we moved further down the test lane. Fingers crossed for attempt #2 - date tbc. Looking forwarding... with a bit more optimism. Chris. Ticking itself cool. List of what ifs raising my blood pressure. First sign of an issue. Nurse it back home and prep for #2.1 point

I suspect he's suggesting the softer/adjustable Playskool (not longer in business - but plenty sold) or Siltech bars, rather than the stiffer Westfield factory bars.1 point

I've a 2L SilverTop Zetec on Weber 45s - is a Q plate so I don't have to worry but I still get an emissions sheet along with my MOT. Last three MOTs were : 2.53%, 0.33% and 0.29% so it's reasonably well within the 3.5% limit.1 point

Had a fab drive out this morning, on my own but still had fun. I headed down from Crewkerne to West Bay to start, fun in places but quite slow going. Had a brief stop to stretch the legs and take a photo before heading along the lovely coast road through Burton Bradstock and towards Abbotsbury. I stopped again at the lay-by overlooking Chesil beach and Portland, fab views and more pics. Heading on from there I wiggled around a bit, down some fairly small lanes but plenty of good going. Finally I hit the A356 back towards Crewkerne and had a blast; empty roads, fast and open, really good fun. Car is now cleaned and tucked away, hopefully not for too long if this weather holds! ๐ค1 point

Iโve toured Dorset each year (7) since having a caravan and Iโd love to drive the Westy along the road from Weymouth to West Bay and through that rolling countryside. A bit if a different landscape to Wolves ๐ณ๐งก๐ค1 point

The problem is that I can't drive and take photo's as well, so the camera only comes out when we stop, and when we stop all we do is eat and talk ๐๐ @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO the aforementioned photo's seem to have been 'moderated' ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐1 point

The problem is you are trying to be logical and fair, the government is not. The reason they have increased the road tax on EV's which were free is due to the drop in revenue from fuel duty as more have moved over to EV for one reason or another. When more inevitably do the same road pricing is the next thing. Now a simple way would be to get the MOT station to send the mileage to DVLA who would then send a bill, but they won't as they will roll out evermore cameras so they can do charging in time zones. So peak time highest tariff and no doubt other times will be flexed like bank holidays to catch more cash. They can then adjust the charging as they see fit to fill the coffers. The days of cheap motoring will soon be a distant memory0 points
