I'm pleased to report that they do not salt the road here. This is Mecca for flyfishing and salt hurts the fish so they don't use it. They use grit/sand/gravel when needed but that's it. Winter lasts a long time here. We are pretty far north and the elevation of the valleys in our area is about 5000' (1520 meters). The local mountain peaks go up to about 9000'. We can have snow on the ground from end of October to late April into May. It can snow most any month of the year but August snow in the valley is very rare. Right now it's 'warm' for the date and the temp outside is 28°F and we have about 1 1/2 feet of snow in the yard. Many of the smaller roads are snow covered and will be for the next few months. Obviously the Westie stays home when there's snow on the road. The day I took the photo I shared it was dry in the valley but cold. No real snow had fallen down low yet. I went out on this clear and cold day to get photos and to get that done before it snowed...which it did the very next day. We usually get a serious blast of arctic weather in late December with lows of -35° to -40°F below zero (about -40°C) for a few days but so far we've not had that dangerous cold. Most 'winter' days have a high of about 25° - 30°F and we get lots of sun when it's not snowing. Much of Montana is high desert and it's very dry. The humidity in the summer rarely gets over 50% and in the winter it can be 10-15%. I've seen hot summer days with the relative humidity of 5%. There are no bugs in the summer...no mosquitoes, no flies, no nothing because it's so dry. I love it. You can leave your house wide open in summer. Montana is stunningly beautiful but harsh at times. Summer is to die for and winter can be tough...unless you are a skier or snowboarder which is why my wife and I moved here 25 years ago. Yellowstone Park is just about 90 miles from where I live and it's a stunning place to visit. If you ever get a chance it's worth the trip. Aside from the geology and geysers there's the wildlife. A simple drive through the park and you'll no doubt see black bear, elk, wolves, coyotes, big horned sheep, mule deer, prong horn antelope...etc. If you are clever and take your time you can see grizzly bears and they are amazing. More than you wanted to know I'm sure. I love this place and I can get carried away sharing that love. dave7 points

He's not kidding. I drove a bright orange Elise before I built my Westfield and I got pulled over once. After a nice little chat with the officer I asked why I was pulled over. He said I was going 3 mph over the speed limit but he mostly wanted to see the car. So I showed him around the car and he sat in it and took photos for his kid. Nice guy. dave4 points

I snapped this photo a little while back to submit to the calendar contest and it's one that wasn't chosen. But I like it and it shows well what my little corner of Montana looks like. It's a sparsely populated part of the USA and "rush hour" generally means that cowboys are driving their herd from one side of the road to another. There's some awesome twisty back road driving here. dave4 points

HEADS UP!! The producers of Bangers & Cash have been in touch with the club to use some Westfield footage for an episode 😎 Ive been advised this will be broadcasted this Thursday @8pm on U&Yesterday channel 😁 All I know is its a westfield and a phone box Thanks Marcus3 points

The comedian Rich Hall, who lives part-time in Montana, says the law enforcement officers in Montana pull you over because they’re lonely and need someone to talk to.3 points

The cost of gas here in the USA, and in Montana in particular, is subsidized to the max and it ends up being so cheap. Right now I'm paying just about $3 USD for a US Gallon. I think given the current exchange rates that means is about £2.5 per US gallon. As I recall the UK gallon is larger than the US gallon just to confuse things. So anyway you cut it the cost of fuel doesn't keep me from enjoying the car. I think I may have said this before here but it bears repeating...The state of Montana has a very low population density with just over 1,000,000 people living here. At the same time it has 3 times the land area of England which as I recall has a population of 50,000,000 people. This means that Montana has 1/50 the number of people in 3 times the space. That's a long way of saying that finding empty roads to enjoy the Westfield on is not an issue. There's plenty or roads that I don't use because they are so remote that they have no cell service and the bears out number the people so having a breakdown is not a good idea! dave3 points

If you’re trying to renew your membership but getting this screen: it’s not your fault, there’s (yet another) slight issue backstage. The club has gone from using PayPal to process payments to Stripe, which seems to have greatly irritated the backstage software. If you are among the “lucky” members who have been affected, please reply below and I’ll fix it for you. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Those responsible have been fed to a herd of venomous flesh-eating rabbits and their clothes given to charity. (I often wonder if members read this far down.)1 point

I had heard a rumour Andrew was potentially stating up again, I must admit my rear diffuser from him is top notch. Highly recommended by me.1 point

I presume you’re using the mobile number 07856 603 969 for the workshop? Ive not heard anything about the status changing, but when I’ve rung in the past, the phone was the slowest way to get in touch.1 point

Bears are great. They’re inspirational. They should be used to inspire athletes in the Olympics and if they were, I guarantee you that existing 100m record times and personal bests would be smashed. I was in Yosemite a few years ago and they had a four door saloon on display and some numpty owner had left food in boot. A bear had come along, bent the window frame of the rear door down flat against the door skin (yes, they’re that strong), got in and ripped the back seat out to get at the food. The owner later got a $10,000 fine and forfeited their car as a result.1 point

It might not have been your preferred photo, but congrats on the January calendar photo nonetheless, it’s stunning. Being born in nearby South Dakota. I remember the bitter cold distinctly but our summers were very different, hot, very humid, lots of mosquitoes and horse flies, and the occasional tornado. Don’t miss it.1 point

I only do around 3 track days a year, but for the last couple of years opentrack have been my first choice. Their cancellation policy of a full refund (credit to your account) when you cancel with at least 4 days to go gives great flexibility. I've never experienced any over booking.1 point

I have used Opentrack on a few occasions, admittedly only for track evenings at Donington but all seemed ok.1 point
