  1. A few pics from my run today, just a short one 200mls. Up and over The Rest and be Thankful to Colintraive then a ferry over to Isle of Bute and after lunch a ferry back to Wemyss Bay and home via Ayrshire. 😊 Could really do with Rob to make the pictures pop... Arran in the background Rothesay Bay and the hills on the mainland I'd driven through to get there

  4. This has to be a new record for me... What could be in this A4-sized small parcel box? ... another smaller box... so what's inside that? Oh of course, it's the 6mm igus bush I ordered for my throttle cable! Dimensions ~35x15x5mm, meaning you could fit at least 1000 of them in this box I guess Igus don't get many orders this small next day delivery though!

  5. The Toybox feature is in the October edition of the mag, I'm still waiting for my copy so stole this off Facebook. Nice that we've a few of our members and their lovely cars in there 👍 You can order a copy from here or get one from your local newsagents (if they're still a thing these days!)

  6. Harewood Weekend. (21st – 22nd September) The Harewood September double header event is a sure sign that the Westfield season is approaching its conclusion. The ever-popular venue saw both Saturday and Sunday events oversubscribed with one or two regular Championship competitors unable to gain entries. A total of 9 Championship runners, spread across Classes A,B and F managed to get entries for both days. Saturday revealed an overcast but dry start to the day, this slowly improved as the day unfolded with some autumn sunshine appearing by late morning. The improving conditions encouraged some over ambitious driving throughout the field which led to frequent red flags and subsequent delays. These delays limited the day to two practice and two timed runs. The Westfield contingent largely kept their composure throughout although Mick Dent kept his one indiscretion of the day until just after the finish line and picked up a bit of Harewood vegetation for his troubles. Class A saw a day long tussle between Mark Bishop and Phil Hallington with Phil unable to close on Mark who took the Westfield class. In Class B, Howard Gaskin showed consistent good pace to take the Class from a chasing Mark Claxton. The largest Championship class at the event was Class F with 5 competitors. Dave Banner dominated the class getting to within half a second of the class record. Dave was followed by a close day long battle between Andy Steel, Chris Boyd and Mick Dent who finished in that order. Harry Moody checked out of the event and the weekend with a CV Joint disintegrating on the last corner of the day. Again, a grey sky greeted competitors on Sunday, the greyness staying resolutely throughout the day. The colder track offered little in improving times and a lot in continued red flag incidents. Class A saw a repeat of Saturday’s result with Mark Bishop again heading Phil Hallington on the time sheets. Class B also showed a repeat of the Saturday’s results although both Howard Gaskin and Mark Claxton bucked the trend by recording faster times than the previous day. In Class F Dave Banner again headed the field but Saturday’s battle continued behind him with Mick Dent emerging as the ‘best of the rest’ ahead of Chris Boyd and Andy Steel. Despite the recurring red flag delays the organisers announced a third timed run but as the run got underway the rain arrived and grew so heavy that Class F decided to call it a day and retired to the trailers. Despite some delays and the final weather intervention it was, as usual, an enjoyable weekend on a classic hill, superbly run by BARC … Maybe more than one visit next year??

  8. Meet at the Great British Car Journey, Ambergate, Derbyshire, DE56 2HE at 10am for breakfast and a tyre kick. Afterwards we will go for a run out around the Peak District, finishing with a refreshment stop before heading home. The weather is forecast good for most of the day with rain arriving later, so we won't be out for too long. Please keep an eye on the forecast and check here before travelling, just in case the meteorologists change their mind. Member's only on the run out please. Who is coming?

  10. Sounds about right. It was open today, but last week I had to use the relief road for the first time. It really is a National disgrace that the issues there haven't been sorted by now and an Alpine style tunnel installed. The locals must dread heavy rainfall.

  11. Last time I went over Rest and Be Thankful was in a gale on my motorbike. At one point the wind picked me up and dropped me 2ft to the right. Or that's what it felt like. And that was in August IIRC

  15. Watch out for the next edition of CKC! Jack Wood, owner of CKC was at Toybox today doing a magazine feature. Huge thanks to all the members who came along, hopefully you will get your faces and/or cars in the mag 👍 I'll do more of a write up in Westfield World, but Jack seemed to enjoy his test drive of one of Andrews cars (a stunning grey FW) and took loads of photographs of the cars and the new Toybox premises. A couple of photos I took of the car Jack tested, its a real stunner! I volunteered to take Jack for a spin in my MegaS2000 as he hadnt been in a Honda powered car..... Those that know me will appreciate that I had to give it the full berries! I think his face tells a story 😂 A fun couple of hours, thanks to Andrew, Dale, Roscoe and Natalie for your hospitality 👍

  20. On the weekend of 7/8 September competitors in the Westfield Speed Series gathered at Knockhill, literally from all points of the UK, from the south coast and Essex to the North of Scotland. On the Friday before the event cars were put in the pitlane garages alongside all the British Sprint competitors and once the afternoon test session was complete, it was an opportunity to walk the track and in some cases twice. The event was part of a multiple race weekend with over 150 cars competing Saturday morning dawned to a low mist, so dense was it that the first corner, the hairpin, couldn’t be seen from the pitlane, a short delay ensued hopefully to allow the mist to burn off. At the drivers briefing for all sprint competitors it was emphasised that none of us should fall off the track, thus causing a delay to the race programme as we wanted to be invited back. On the Saturday the anticlockwise configuration was run, which entailed starting in the pitlane and completing 1.75 laps. After a 30 minute delay it was deemed safe for the sprint to commence, even though the hairpin wasnt 100% visible all the time. Steve Arkley at least had local advantage as he knew where the track went and was significantly faster in practice than the others. However as the day morphed from mist to blue skies, the visitors soon found their feet and started to put in competitive times. Significantly it was important to pick your braking spot going into the hairpin at the end of the fastest part of the track coming down from 120+mph. Times dropped and although there were insufficient numbers to have separate classes in the Westfield Sprint there was good competition between all the cars. Fastest was Dave Smith running 1b tyres, followed by Steve Arkley, Michael Skidmore having a close battle with Mick Dent and Harry Moody. The Westfield Sprint entries from British Sprint saw Pete Goulding take a 1st and a 2nd and John Loudon who felt his car wasn’t as lively as usual and managed two 4th places Unlike many sprints the Westfield Series attends, because the Knockhill one is part of a comprehensive race programme with all day commentary there was always the ‘danger’ of having a microphone thrust into your face after each session, to provide context to the spectators as to what was going on, after awhile we got used to it, even though David Smith tried to hide each time the interviewer was heading in our direction. So after a good days competition the visitors retired to a local restaurant. The next morning the mist was thicker, so there was a longer delay, this time we were using the clockwise layout with the infamous Duffus Dip corner at the end of the pit straight, which is totally blind and drops from the apex, so again getting breaking points and line is crucial for a good lap. After a 2 hour delay and a comprehensive programme reshuffle, which to the credit of the organisers meant the whole of the race card got a fair days racing, practice got underway but meant there were to be only two timed runs. At the end of the day David Smith was quickest by 3/10ths of a second from Steve Arkley with Mick Dent just faster than Michael Skidmore with Harry Moody just behind. In BSC Pete Goulding got two 1sts but John Loundon finished with a 5th and 7th due to a misfire which was later identified as injector problems. Once again a visit to Knockhill was warmly received by the competitors and although nothing could be done about the mist which was impacting large parts of eastern UK overall an enjoyable weekend was had by all.
