  2. Well as my first official event, I really couldn't have picked a better one! It was plain to see the effort and organisation that had went into putting it together and I'm sure the envy of all the other clubs there. Many thanks to @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator and everyone else who helped put on such a fantastic display and I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you all. I have enjoyed a very warm welcome here since joining the club in June and it was lovely today to finally put some faces to the names. Thank you to @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative @Rob Hunter - Club Secretary and @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman For extending the warm welcome once again in person. We had a fantastic day and will hopefully make it back down again soon. You can thank us for bringing the good weather down with us later.

  3. Massive thank you to @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator for yet another very well organised event. The club stand looked brilliant. It can only look good when it is filled with our member's cars, so thank you to everyone that came and filled Westfield Avenue, especially @Craigieboy and co who travelled all those miles down from Scotland x Thank you to the club committee for providing the cake, days are always better with cake involved. This lady, Clare, is our expert cake cutter What a great job she did Her husband @AndrewBClarke is good at eating it, 2 slices, noted! A rare photo of our car with doors and a roof on,it was tiddling it down when we set off this morning 11, who doesn't love an 11 Inside the hall we admired the Westfield Chesil Ltd stand. A great display put on but we will have to hang in there for a while longer, 2025 sounds like it's going to be a good year to own a Westfield. These are the same vehicle, TIPO, one has the bodywork on and one has it removed for you to inspect what's beneath. Can be used on road or track, imagine one of those in the Peak District, one can dream. Parked with the Derby/Notts red devils x Thanks everyone for the best Newark show yet. Great to see you all, come and see us again at the car museum next Sunday, weather permitting x

  12. Welcome to tonight’s episode of Unexplained Mysteries. On tonight’s show: How can one lady devour so much cake and remain trim and svelte, while I put on half a stone just looking at a photo of cake?

  22. Success! Stu’s patented Easy Slide Carcoon Access Pulley Erection, or ESCAPE is up and running!! 🤣🤣 I’ve been planning this one in my head for a few years now (!) and have finally been able to get it sorted. Basically it’s just two tensioned wires with three pulleys each side connecting to the loops on the top of the Carcoon. This makes things much easier in that I can collapse the bubble and it remains supported and can be slid either to the front or the back of the garage so it is out of the way. Much quicker and easier, and also inflates more quickly too 👍

  31. I think it’s a case of horses for courses. The Airchambers look great, and I'm sure they are much more convenient for quick access to the car. The benefit of the Carcoon, particularly how I’ve got mine setup is that it can be out of the way in a few minutes giving me much more space to work on the car. If space wasn’t an issue I would definitely have an Airchamber.

  32. They do look great, and give off a nice even light as you say. I don’t have the rafters in place to easily mount something like this, so I think I’ll stick with the replacement LED battens in the first instance and see how I get on. Thanks for the info though 👍

  34. they are the ones I have fitted, I had some very old (but free) fluorescent fittings for about 40 years, they took an age to light up, flickering for ages, it was very frustrating going into the garage on a dark night just for a screwdriver or something and having to wait for ages to be able to see, so I got four of them, what a difference , I should have done it years ago.

  35. I meant to post those earlier in the week, but then forgot. When it comes to the lights, if you're happy with mounting them, I'd suggest the type of lights that go into suspended ceilings. I use them in my garage, and I've people walk in and ask where I got the light tubes from! I can grab a more recent photo of you'd like, but the below is from when I was at a similar stage to you, only I hadn't built my racking or work bench at this point. They give a good spread of light, and as they're not a tube, I find they help reduce shadows. Having a thoroughly ok-lit garage will be easier to work in than one with a few really bright lights but loads of shadows. With 9 of the panels (switched in 4's, front and back, with a single over my workbench) means it's always well lit. They were a reasonable price at the time, maybe £20-25 each, given that I didn't have any fittings to buy. If you do stick with LED tubes, don't forget to dust them from time to time. It's amazing how much the light output can reduce from a little coating of dust.

  40. I have been curious about how much my car weighs, and had been looking at all sorts of mad cap schemes on YouTube which involved sticking multiple scales under each wheel at a time and adding the results up. This is possibly useful for estimating corner weights but probably a lot of phaff just to get to overall weight. It probably seems obvious now, but a bit of googling found a public weighbridge just over 15 mins away in Martock. I popped up there this afternoon with the car in lightweight mode ie no roof or doors but it did have 3/4 tank of fuel. It came in at 540kg which seems pretty good to me. My biggest challenge now is to deal with the 120kg of lard which sits in the driver’s seat! 🤪 Hard to see how I could lose much more from the car, perhaps 10 or 20kg here or there, but certainly there is likely 35kg to be saved from me if I ever get round to it. So, engine is nominally 135bhp which give 250bhp/tonne. With me in it now we are at 204bhp/tonne. Losing 50kg between me and the car puts it at 221. Sticking a 155bhp engine in it gets me to 254bhp/tonne with driver. Possible project for future when funds allow. Now, how do I stop eating so much cake and chocolate? 🤪🤪

  41. That is super light in my opinion. Anything under 600kgs is very light indeed. I did the scale thing with my car a few months ago. Managed to get a 200kgs bathroom scale so only needed the one. It was hard work and the result I got was lighter than I expected so I may have got it wrong. I'll find out when it gets corner weighted.
