After a rough start into ownership we got our first run out in the Westie up Hartside Pass. Having never driven anything like this and coming from high power hatches ( 500 BHP RS3, TTRS, 570 BHP Golf R ), I have got to say I'm hooked! This thing is simply mind blowing in every sense. It gets so much attention everywhere we go, loads of people taking photo's of it. We also bought the trailer and track wheels, so we will be hoping to get on track to learn how to drive it properly, because this thing re writes what's possible in the twisty's. A couple of photos captured by a photographer. I will hopefully bump in to some of you out and about, but I'm not sure there are many Westie owners in Carlisle.12 points

Due to house renovation I've not really had the Westfied out in 3 years, it was buried behind 70 square metres of reclaimed parquet floor, and a kitchen... I got it MOT'd a couple of months back but the landscaping side has dominated most of the summer. I finally got it out and had a bit of a run this weekend. changed the rear brake pads, restuck the numberplate, re-aligned the headlights, welded (badly) the rattling heat shield. I've missed it!8 points

All, please note that due entirely to personal incompetence, I got the date wrong and the meeting is actually next week!!! My apologies. With sincere apologies for the late late notice, and my seeming inability to create an event in the Events calendar, not sure why that is. Devon and Somerset meet is tomorrow evening at the Halfway House pub, Cullompton starting at 7.30pm. Hope to see as many of you there as possible. I will get the future dates added as soon as I can, but it’s the fourth Wednesday of the month.4 points

Great, your really getting the miles in. The GR version has the 2.4 boxer engine up from the 2.0 in the GT if I remember correctly. Does that make a noticeable improvement or have you not experienced the early version. I would class having a roof as a luxury and what's sound deadening!2 points

It's a GR86 actually! I'd say the handling is better, but point to point on twisties the Westfield will probably be faster due to weight / mechanical grip... but I'm someone who sees a clear divide between handling and road holding, where many seem to lump them together. It's probably one of the most balanced things I've ever driven, it's playful and you can feel whats going on. There is pretty much no sound deadening so its a bit basic / raw for some, but we've all got Westfields so comparatively its luxury... I've taken it to Snetterton and Spa, and its Angelsey this weekend. They had very good press reviews! Chris Harris liked it plus won a few awards in general motoring press. Here is me being a hooligan at Spa!2 points

Yup, although it has still only done 4,000 miles (rolled over this weekend). - It is nice booking a track day and not worrying (too much) about the weather. I'm a fair weather Westfielder. It’s basically the next generation, the same basic platform, with a lot of shared parts, but stiffer, and generally improved and refined a bit. the 2.4 has much better torque delivery than the old 2.0. it’s not what I'd call fast, but that's not what it is about. Oh, and the back seats are cosmetic only! In terms of BRZ, we never got the 2nd gen BRZ here, but it’s basically a badge engineering exercise, with a few trim differences and things like different maps and minor suspension changes. Most of the parts underneath say "Subaru". The 2nd gen cars are closer in design, I think the Toyota variant looks better. It's a shame all UK stock is gone. The initial batch sold out in 90 minutes of going on sale, and they subsequently bought a second batch over for those already on the waiting list. EU safety regs ruled out any more over here. Should help residuals though! A real shame as they released this for the Japanese / American market. Colours match my Westie, and it comes with nice brembos all round. 🤤1 point

Yeah mixing it with bikers was fun. The westie is a replacement for a bike as my missus didn't want me to get another. Yes, it goes very well. Ultra responsive. The engine / mapping is a work of art.1 point

Nice one 👍 Certainly an eye catching car in black with the small headlights and green highlights. Great fun mixing it with the bikers too.1 point

15 cars met at Whitworth Terrace Cafe and it was great to see so many faces that we haven't seen for a while, and lovely to see our regulars too of course. We had a good chat on the terrace. Very difficult to photograph so many cars with stupid lamp posts in the way but here we are in the Whitworth car park We had a special visitor with us today (thanks Lee B), here is Natalia (and Froggy hiding behind her back) with her car, a wonderful young lady full of enthusiasm, she loves cars and going to car shows with her friend Bobby, thanks to her dad for filming us as we left x Allan bought his Westfield out that has been refurbished to exacting standards and now contains a 2.3 Duratec engine. It was an absolute stunner and he was deservedly proud to show it to us all, WOW. We set off on our run out, straight through Bakewell which had EMPTY roads! then off onto the quiet lanes and up high for great views, this took us to The Cow Shed. Those that had not followed my directions were already there waiting for us, hey ho, Wormhill will be there for another day. The roast beef and Yorkshire puddings were eaten al fresco We needed sweet treats next so we dropped down to the Yondermann The Rocky Road was popular @aeg missed out, just sayin' Belgian Chocolate, plus it contained Crunchie pieces, oh my Don't worry Glen, there are no fingerprints on that roll over bar, I am better trained than that Thank you to everyone for coming today, it's been just fabulous to see you all. The roads were quiet, the sun was warm and the cars ran well. For those that are not at Silverstone next weekend, it is a Bank Holiday and we will be out avoiding the tourist hot spots, see you then!1 point

Quite an eventful outing today. 4 of us met up at the Buffers and left dead on time to meet up with the others at the Riverside. Deciding to take the direct route along the A64 instead of the more scenic one, all was well until we hit the duel carriage way and my temperature gauge was heading towards 100°. Carrying on and it was soon off the scale so I thought I'd better stop and have a look. Taking the bonnet off, I could see there was no radiator cap on. I'd checked the levels before leaving home and forgotten to replace it. Luckily it had fallen onto the plug leads and stopped there. Topping up with a litre of water I had got us under way for around 10 miles, then I had to stop again. More water added from the washer bottle and we were off again arriving at the Riverside about 20 minutes late. Next problem, the pub was shut. A quick Google found an open pub 5 minutes away. All starving by now so Full English all round. After a fill up of food and, more importantly, water, we set off for Helmsley. Nice roads with no traffic, I'd set my satnav for our destination in Scarborough, actively ignoring it until I turned right towards Malton instead of left to Helmsley. Not realising at first, I just carried on. Hitting Malton, we managed to get split up in traffic and traffic lights and 8 cars became 4, with the other 4 splitting up into pairs. The 4, me, @Breakable?, @Nicholas Rycroft, @Dylan managed to spin round and join up with @Jill sutcliffe and @MGG along the A64 that I was trying to avoid! So we carried on to our final destination of "Olivers on the Mount" which surprisingly is a cafe on Olivers Mount in with spectacular views of Scarborough. We had to go the long way round as a hill climb was taking place, but as we arrived in the car park @Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator and @Gareth D (GAZ 4885) got there at the same time. @ColinH made it in time for tea and cakes. Heading home is easier, we all know where we live, or should do, so we took the scenic route from Bridlington to Stamford Bridge and the A64 again. Thanks to all who came and sorry for the delays and changing routes.1 point

I’m wondering if the club could rent some proper scales for Malvern next year, and charge owners £10 per weigh with the proceeds going to charity.1 point

Like all my projects, this one is running behind time and over budget 🤣. Finally finished painting the walls, looks loads brighter. Next stop floor, should be getting the paint next week. Then build some shelves and another work bench for car stuff and we are away. Reminder of the ‘before’ below, and now.1 point

The picture nobody wants to take.... But then I'm sure there is not meant to be a hole there. I waited almost four hours for the RAC, but time flew due to the number of people who pulled over to check I was OK. The RAC chap was also very helpful once he arrived. I think I need to now splash out on a new raceline sump. I stopped no more than half a mile after it happened, most of which was coasting, so I'm hopeful that there is no engine damage.0 points
