I have been curious about how much my car weighs, and had been looking at all sorts of mad cap schemes on YouTube which involved sticking multiple scales under each wheel at a time and adding the results up. This is possibly useful for estimating corner weights but probably a lot of phaff just to get to overall weight. It probably seems obvious now, but a bit of googling found a public weighbridge just over 15 mins away in Martock. I popped up there this afternoon with the car in lightweight mode ie no roof or doors but it did have 3/4 tank of fuel. It came in at 540kg which seems pretty good to me. My biggest challenge now is to deal with the 120kg of lard which sits in the driver’s seat! 🤪 Hard to see how I could lose much more from the car, perhaps 10 or 20kg here or there, but certainly there is likely 35kg to be saved from me if I ever get round to it. So, engine is nominally 135bhp which give 250bhp/tonne. With me in it now we are at 204bhp/tonne. Losing 50kg between me and the car puts it at 221. Sticking a 155bhp engine in it gets me to 254bhp/tonne with driver. Possible project for future when funds allow. Now, how do I stop eating so much cake and chocolate? 🤪🤪9 points

I call them Flip Crocs! Take one pair of broken flip flops, and one pair of crocs which have worn through the sole. Cut the straps off the flip flops and hot melt glue them to the crocs! What could possibility go wrong? Well, imminent divorce and ridicule from Mrs Stu of course, for bringing shame on the family, but they are super comfy! 🤪🤪🤣🤣8 points

Watch out for the next edition of CKC! Jack Wood, owner of CKC was at Toybox today doing a magazine feature. Huge thanks to all the members who came along, hopefully you will get your faces and/or cars in the mag 👍 I'll do more of a write up in Westfield World, but Jack seemed to enjoy his test drive of one of Andrews cars (a stunning grey FW) and took loads of photographs of the cars and the new Toybox premises. A couple of photos I took of the car Jack tested, its a real stunner! I volunteered to take Jack for a spin in my MegaS2000 as he hadnt been in a Honda powered car..... Those that know me will appreciate that I had to give it the full berries! I think his face tells a story 😂 A fun couple of hours, thanks to Andrew, Dale, Roscoe and Natalie for your hospitality 👍5 points

Here is the route for tomorrow, please put it in your satnav. START Terrace Cafe, Whitworth Centre, DE4 2EQ A6 through Bakewell, taking the A6 Buxton out of Bakewell, turning LEFT passing Sheldon, Cock and Pullet (don't laugh!) DE45 1QS To Chelmorton and turn RIGHT onto A5270 Head for Millers Dale Car Park SK17 8SN Keep going to Wormhill, then Peak Forest, right at the lights, past Devonshire Arms, SK17 8EJ Down the A623 to the big Tideswell crossroads, turn RIGHT to the finish point BENTONVILLE FARM SHOP, THE COW SHED CAFE, SK17 8SS There will be slight deviations to make travel easier i.e I will miss Tideswell and go down to Litton because it's a bit tight getting through, but you won't be far away if you follow this. Weather is great, looking forward to it, tip - arrive hungry at the cow shed, the portions are farmer sized.4 points

I had mine weigh (well actually 4-wheel alignment done) by NMS last year and it came in at 680Kg. Which I thought was pretty good for a weighty V8... I'd be over the moon with 540Kg as it means more pies for the driver 🤣3 points

Anybody else remember when you could buy repair soles from woolies? I can remember my dad repairing shoes in the garage.3 points

We got snapped at the top of the Umbrail pass(links off Stelvio) (day 5 of our trip) and as my car was the first pic of the day, the Tog, allowed me to download it for free! So there is an advantage to being at the front! The others are pictured here- https://kanyarfoto.com/en/photos?location=40&from=2024-07-01 00%3A00&to=2024-07-01 23%3A593 points

I'll be coming along too. A few of us will be meeting at the A38/A50 services (DE65 6DX) for a 9am departure. We will be passing the Co-op in Wirksworth at about 930am if anyone wants to tag along there before we land at the Whitworth at 10ish. The route will be all quick B roads once we get to Duffield so should be fun!!2 points

Might be fun to try. I saw a 500kg scale on eBay for £89, so you could just do front and back with that I guess, although each corner would be easier to setup. Weighbridge a lot easier and only £7.50 👍2 points

Sue and myself will be joining you too😁2 points

Really not sure how accurate it would have been, I may drop them a note to ask. My car is a 1990 SEi, pre IVA/SVA and fairly stripped out, no internal side panels, carpets, no driver’s seat, (I sit on a pad), ali bell housing so I’m not surprised it’s towards the lighter end but clearly it could be heavier given the tolerance on the weighbridge. Will have to get it done properly some day but good to know it is not bad.1 point

My car IVA'd at 530kgs,from memory, and that's with an all aluminium drive train, so 540 would be quite light. I think XI's are usually a little lighter than 7's, although we do get a full set of bodywork to lug about, so anything sub-600kgs usually needs considerable work/carbon/BEC.1 point

Yep, but one needs to remember that most public weighbridges are set up for lorries and trailers and are there to help prevent wildly out overloads. The weighbridges at landfills tend to be much more accurate because they use them for charging purposes. The cost of installing and maintaining these weighbridges is substantially higher than ones with 5% variance.1 point

The answer is… how long is a piece of string? The only way you can know for sure is to ask the weighbridge operators. It could be off by up to 5%, though.1 point

A few pictures from the weekend away. Weather was fantastic, however the roads were very busy and congested pretty much everywhere. That was until we hit the border on the way home, where the roads were quite and the rain started! Can't believe what Ford have done with their history. And like any good Scotsman, I held onto my money and took some long distance pictures of the Stonehenge instead 😉1 point

Me and my mate took are kit cars a few years ago my Westfield seiw with 1.8vvc k series engine came in at 600kg and his pinto powered mac#1 came in at 630kg. I now have four 300kg postal scales.1 point

That is super light in my opinion. Anything under 600kgs is very light indeed. I did the scale thing with my car a few months ago. Managed to get a 200kgs bathroom scale so only needed the one. It was hard work and the result I got was lighter than I expected so I may have got it wrong. I'll find out when it gets corner weighted.1 point

Spotted this yesterday so it would have been rude not to pop over for an hour or so to represent the Club. Great to see a few members come along with their cars so hopefully we will get a few of them in the next edition! Jack was there to do a feature on Toybox and also the grey FW they have for sale. After he had taken a few shots, he took the car for a quick test drive and seemed to really enjoy it. I then offered to take Jack for a quick spin in mine as he'd not been in a MegaS2000.... he got to experience me giving it the full berries down the lanes, hopefully he enjoyed it 😂 While I was there, I also managed to snap myself a few arty shots with the trusty phone1 point

That was an eventful days racing........ First race run didn’t go to plan with an ‘off’ that caused some (understatement…) mechanical issues that weren’t fully apparent until we’d pushed back up to the top: Broken spoke Broken rear mech Bent chain Deflated tyre Still, she’d managed to complete the run to get a time on the board. So with not much time to get the bike fixed before the second race run the team (me a mate & his wife!) jumped into action! With Darren sorting a tube out for the deflated tyre (spoke through the rim tape….), Alison gave me a lift home to fetch a spare rear mech, cable and other bits if needed – I didn’t have a spare chain though… So with tyre fixed, rear mech fitted and chain straightened as best we could, she made it just in time for category start – great effort, thank you so much guys!! Second run went a lot better but still taken as a ‘safe’ run due to the slightly dodgy chain and ‘roughly’ set up gears. Still finished with a 2nd place, but a fair way back due to the cautious run. So this week I will be mostly buying new parts, some spares and fixing a bike.......1 point

Standard fuel gauge readings: Full = full Full with a twitching needle = 3/4 full 3/4 full = just over 1/2 full 1/2 full = 1/3 full 1/3 full with twitching needle = 1/4 full 1/4 full = look for fuel 1/4 full with a twitching needle = look for fuel NOW Under 1/4 full = what are you playing at?!? Avoid roundabouts and right turns to prevent fuel starvation 1/8 full = you’re out of fuel and have time to post in the “Sharing what you’ve just done. Not questions. No comments required.” thread1 point
