Hi All, Update, Spoke to insurance company who asked me where do I want it to go to as its a specialised vehicle. My car is now going to Siltech tomorrow. Been speaking with Andy who has stated that it is easily repairable. ( at a cost) I did get a guide from the insurance company who said 65% of the value they would pay approx 11K. Going with flared panels as a replacement rather than new tub. Cycle wings are plastic! Are westfield the only ones producing nose cones? Things are looking a bit more positive but then we are dealing with insurance companies.7 points

There was a distinct lack of real sevens at the car museum with only 4 Caterhams in the car park. Ian and I spoke to Nick who is the Derby/Notts/Leics AO of the Caterham Club and he is keen for us to meet up, so I passed him my business card and when they come to the museum next time we will try again. The WSCC put on a magnificent display of 13 cars and I thank you all for making that happen, very proud to be in this club and out with you all. Breakfast at the museum Parked at the museum only just fitted on the panorama shot A 13 car convoy, plus a Jaaaag journeyed through the Peak District, unbelievably we all arrived at the Bentley Brook pub together, perhaps I will put the route up beforehand more often. We comfortably fitted in the top car park someone had to put colour coding first and parked at the other side 😄 There was a carvery and a full menu to choose from, we all sat in the beer garden Next up the people that were heading back North drove the lovely Bentley Brook Road, which forms part of a quiet route right between the busy tourist areas, to land at the Peak Village in Rowsley, where we knew the car museum were exhibiting. We had a chat with them before persuing ice cream and cake. Here they are offering gift vouchers for the 'Drive Dad's Car' experience. Here we are having our treats Andy Westwood missed out on his favourite dessert Big Andy was a bit quick tucking into the lemon meringue, well he is called Andy! they have a reputation these Andy's Parked at the Peak Village Thank you for coming today everyone and showing the museum that we have a great, active club. I hope you have enjoyed the lovely Peak District roads and scenery as much as we have. Here are some last photo's of you at the Bentley Brook Inn.4 points

Thanks Ian…it was a very long drive, staying in a dreadful hotel and hence a distinct lack of sleep…..but it was so worth it. Thanks very much to the wonderful hospitality from John, Jeff and Nic et al and great to meet Steve, Mike, Phil, Bob and Lynda, Andy (Greenstreak), Nick Clarke (I’m sorry about the coffee cup too 🙄), Graham (Grizlee thank you for your advice and invaluable mechanical tips!), finally met “piston broke” and have promptly forgotten his real name, apologies! And anyone else I have missed out….. some great racing and equally great company. My trip home highlighted by an early morning ‘blat’ down the Wye valley stopping at Tintern Abbey before a 40 minute queue to get over the Severn bridge. All in all a memorable Gold Cup debut for me.3 points

Yes, a great achievement on many levels! Ha ha, there's always plenty to smile about in the Peaks. We like visitors from other areas too. Pop up and see us @Flying Carrot Steve2 points

Speaking from experience, and if you want to keep the car and get the repair done yourself DO NOT LET IT OUT OF YOUR SIGHT UNTIL THE CLAIM IS SETTLED. Sorry for shouting, if the car has been recovered to your home, good, if not get it back there asap, salvage can get lost in the system very quick.2 points

100% definitely 👍 even so I wish I still had all my old MK1 Escorts. I could retire!2 points

Absolutely fantastic turn out! Well done all of you, flying the flag for Westfields all across the UK! 🤟 Makes a nice change for there to be more Westies at a meet than Caterhams! Yay! I need to get there one day even if it's only to meet Ian Kinder, for some reason he always makes me smile when I see his smiling face! 🍺🍺2 points

The much cheaper option if not repairing through WF would be a new nosecone and some flared side panels. There are also a couple of options other than WF to buy the main tub, but the tub looks repairable to me.2 points

A proper Westfield day today! A nice drive out thru Staffs & Shrops… The Danery at Quatford for a quick pint in the sun, then off to Ironbridge to The Swan Taphouse - parked up opposite & watched the world photograph the Westies & ignore the M4 & Porsche parked next to them. I know we’re biased but 🙏🫶🏼🥰👍🤛😘🍻 Sorry should have added - WITH the Legend that is @Terence Arthur 🍻2 points

Mrs Stu and I helped with organising my Dad’s 90th Birthday party yesterday. My main contribution was erecting a canopy over the garden stretched between the house, and his old windsurfing mast which served as a flagpole. He did his national service in the Navy and has a lifelong love of the sea so we did a naval theme. I had to climb out of the bedroom window to drill bolts into the outside wall which was actually a lot less scary than I thought it would be. Most traumatic part of the day was definitely half an hour before the party was due to start, when I was trying to tension the canopy a little more and accidentally disconnected the main supporting wire instead! 🤣🤣 I was calling for help from the top of the ladder whilst desperately hanging onto it so it didn’t trash all the flowers underneath. Mrs Stu came to the rescue and I got it sorted with about ten minutes to spare 🤣. Party went well, happy Dad 👍2 points

I was looking more from the perspective of it being uneconomical for the insurer to repair, and so buying it back and then Snowy organising the repairs himself. When you do it this way you have the chance to use companies such as Siltech rather than WF for the repairs, use alternative supplies or even second hand to keep the costs down. And of course you save massively on the labour element. As a home repair with and assuming it needs a new Siltech front end fitting i’m not seeing anything more than £2K of damage in the photos.1 point

Thanks for a lovely run @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative Good of you to start and finish in 'the south' 😊1 point

We've had a good run round and a nice 'light lunch' thanks @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative shame the Caterham's didn't show in force at the start, though I'd bought one along from S-O-T with us! I left with a couple of work car friends who'd bumped into us at the Betley Brook Inn. We had short ride towards Hulme End with Fergus leading the way in his Elise and Jordan following on his bike.1 point

Now that's the kind or route that might actually get my wife interested in the Westfield, but we'd need to stop for a glass of Red at every one!1 point

Looking at your location you can’t be more than a a few miles from Siltech who would almost certainly be able to help you out with any chassis repairs. https://www.siltechracing.com1 point

Hi all. Mrs Joolz is not short of bravery which is good, but is also the reason she often goes into corners way too fast. On her last track day at Doni she ended up in the gravel because she doesn't know what to do when it starts to slide / things start to go a bit Pete Tong. I would love to buy her a car control course .. many tracks have such events .. but they are (somewhat bizarrely I think) geared towards the everyday driver who wants to learn what to do under roads conditions. This isn't really what we are after. Does anyone know of a car control course which is aimed at a novice track day driver who wants to 1) learn firstly how to treat the car in a manner which will extract the best grip and 2) learn how to correct a slide to bring it back under control and then possibly 3) go on to learn how to hold a slide and keep it going ... maybe we could look at a group booking if enough interested parties .. novices only. any help appreciated, many thanks.1 point

lol, or I must push on to the limiter and try harder 🤔 What gearing and diff do you run? From memory our cars are similar bhp and torque levels. It doesn’t happen often and only when my mate who races in the BRSCC Fiesta ST240 championship is sat next to me. Even then it is a little hairy for my talent levels! 🤣1 point

That's interesting.. mind you depends on overall gearing.. but I have found that depending on conditions I can be between third or fourth on a number of corners.. not sure which is quickest.. obviously I must try harder!!1 point

Ordinarily I would say yes, and instruction is never time wasted you can always learn something, but she's already had 2 lots of instruction at Doni so it's more car control we are after really.1 point

I have used Andy of AW driver training in the past, you use your own car and explore the limits of grip and how to correct. It's a good course and taught well, he is an ex touring car driver. I also did the drift course when it was at Donnington but I think they have moved to Silverstone now and also the full day with Palmersport which was amazing and really gave me the confidence to go faster. https://www.awdrivertraining.co.uk/ https://www.silverstone.co.uk/drive/caterham-drift-experience https://www.palmersport.com/event-options/full-day1 point

Yep me too, with the occasional 5th through Craner if I get it right 🤣 We were on the GP Circuit so I needed 3rd for Melbourne…..1 point

Good thanks mate. Car performed well, need to sort my 3rd gear baulk ring - I’ll do that in the winter. Donny is a great circuit1 point

Someone like this can provide just what you need- https://www.donpalmer.co.uk/car-control I did his 'wetter the better' course at MIRA a long time ago in an Impreza. Though MIRA no longer let the public in any more.1 point
