Chalk and cheese compared to the previous business. If I was buying a kit now, in the absence of a new model from Westfield, I'd be looking at a GBS Zero for myself. Be on no price illusions though, kit's are comparatively a hell of a lot more expensive now, than ten, twenty and more years ago. Plus the sorts of big brand sports cars available for the sort of budget you'd need for an all new seven style kit make it harder than its ever been to justify. I didn't get too long to chat about the new car with the Westfield team at the Hog Roast at Malvern; but I was assured it was progressing, just much slower than they'd hoped, and I suspect, in a slightly different direction to some of their original ideas.4 points

Actually, just managed a quick 20 mins while everyone else was busy. I don’t think Mrs Stu even noticed I was gone! 🤣2 points

They look just the job! I'll be copying these2 points

I get the impression that their focus is much more on Chesil? When trying to get support for parts of my build, they've been completely uninterested. MK seem much more on the ball, although not really interested in providing parts for cars other than their own. GBS however have been fantastic to deal with. If I was buying a new kit I'd probably look at them too.2 points

Before you all get too excited, I suggest you need to factor in the fact people run diffent size and core thickness rads and use different mounting methods. Hence you may need to make different size ducts or be prepared to chop them to fit.2 points

Hi everyone, new forum lurker alert! As an opener, circumstance has led me to having a healthy and well sorted spare cross flow engine and gearbox which feels like a great excuse for another car😁. A Westfield seems an obvious choice for that but I haven’t come across any suitable donor cars or far enough finished projects yet. It would likely be for track days / grass roots motorsport type stuff but would want to drive it there etc. Any views on the best route to take or prospective cars welcome.1 point

I've seen low level ramps for cars that are super low to the ground for sale on eBay. Mainly for use to get onto traditional style portable metal ramps. I reckon they'd work of you didn't want the hassle of making some.1 point

I'm amazed actually, I've just been out for a blat not far from Bath, not a long one maybe 40 miles, passed Castle Combe circuit and did not see one single kit! Barely any classics either, saw maybe 2. It's beautiful out, dry roads, loads of grip, where is everyone?1 point

I really don't know anything much about the Chesil cars other than they are more upmarket and expensive. I think there is a video flying about where they pretty much say that their focus is on the Chesil's.1 point

Mk tend to be Q and donor so difficult to guage numbers. Gbs have been good for tricky parts like rear hub nuts clockwise and anti clockwise.1 point

Yip, got to agree. Mate of mine completed his MK build over the winter. There is a buzz about them, especially with the weekly YouTube updates in a down to earth manner that just appeals to folk nowadays. WCL should take note.1 point

Cripes. It's a huge drop since 2004 though isn't it! I sometimes wonder what the effect will be on used prices if WC go? Will they go up due to rarity or go down due to no factory support? Let's hope WC is not an initialism of doom with the toilet reference 💩1 point

Yes, I've been watching MK for the last 2 years and they are on the ball. In effect they are becoming the new Westfield. If Westfield go then it'll be MK in second place after Caterham I feel. I've never driven an MK but I have to say I have seriously considered visiting them and seeing what I could get built to order to my exact spec. If I were younger or did lots of track days I'd go back to a BEC (sold my old one earlier this year) but I think I'd struggle on the road with one nowadays, not exactly relaxing are they 😂 My Zetec turbo is just as quick but a lot less frantic. I do miss the sound and craziness of a BEC at times though.1 point

The J15 was the last car designed by Jeremy Phillips owner of Sylva cars. It was on the market about 12 years ago for a short period. He was a prolific designer of kit cars from the early eighties which include the Star, Leader, Striker, Phoenix, Fury, Stylus, Jester, Mojo, Riot and most recently the J15. These cars are produced by a variety of manufacturers. The Fury is still in production with Fisher cars. I believe he was more focused on the engineering side of the process and often sold the rights on so he could progress the next project. The J15 was based on a SDV build from an Rover MGF but there are a few around that have utilised the Ford Puma 1.7 engine. The engine is at the rear with a tilting clamshell for access. The styling was a nod back to 50s and 60s race cars. There are not many of these around. There is one currently for sale on car and classic bit I can't seem to paste the link. 014 Kit Car Sylva J151 point

@Cookie24 you could try Lancaster insurance to. I had to demonstrate my previous high power car driving experience to A-Plan (now Howdens) when I took out my policy last year. Good luck.1 point

I had a look at "how many left" westfield first registrations. Pub maths time. Assume 2020 regs deflated and 2021 regs inflated by covid , it probably would look like a steady decline from a high in 2018. Given some kits take a few years to build we may be seeing the tail end of the kits being registered and say 7 factory cars last year. It will be interesting to see this years numbers.1 point

It is worrying. Not responding to customers emails etc. There’s been nothing on social media, no advertising etc. Look at how MK are marketing their cars all over the internet. It would be a real shame if it were to happen again. I sincerely hope they can pull it out of the bag1 point

I do agree. If I had thirty or forty grand to throw at a play car, I would likely choose something else. I would love to see some entry level options, with a possibility of putting a basic car on the road for £15k to £20k including donor. That might keep some of the younger generation interested and bring new owners in. Going higher and higher end just competes with other much more attractive brands I think.1 point

Wired up the DRL's. Used the same controller as I've used on a few Mx5 installs and it's never let me down, though required a couple of resistors to work properly. It was fine with a incandescent bulb, but wouldn't recognise the leds. Hardest part was threading the cable up through the sleeve to the headlamps, but I was determined to do it.1 point
