Wow, so much still to learn, you get to see a kit car stripped down to its very innards like nowhere else I have ever seen. We bought our car, rather than built it, so this tour was especially useful. Most components are designed and manufactured on site, from brake calipers and suspension to the cosmetic stuff like doors, just everything is included. Every last bit of your car is covered on this tour, really worth doing, it's very personalised as Richard himself is the guide. As kit car owners our tour lasted a bit longer because we went more in depth. He built the factory, he runs the factory and he is a success. Homemade cake and coffee was available before and after, always a winner with us lot. Thank you to the club for covering our entrance fees, thank you to the guys that turned up, it was such a shame that more people couldn't experience it. I will send Ruth and Richard a thank you from us all. Next up is a run out with them to Belvoir, near Grantham so we will look forward to that. The Westfields lined up And a cheeky photo of our lovely new exhaust3 points

If/when you remove them from the car, do me a favour please Ben and weigh them! I'm really keen to know how much weight I'd save swapping mine for plastic.2 points

Well they definitely look like they mean business don't they! Very nice If you have used R888Rs before please let us know how they compare.2 points

I think keep it together, certainly the Westfield bits. If you end up selling say... the wishbones individually, your target market becomes only Mazda SDVs, and only those that need new wishbones for whatever reason. Where as currently, your target market it anyone looking to build a seven style kit car in an easy way.2 points

I know this is a sensitive subject, but value honest opinions on here... Im looking to come back into Westfield ownership, but have been offered a nice Caterham roadsport as a swap for my VX220. Is there anyone with experience of both Caterham and Westfield who can coment on how they both compare, and is there anything particular to be wary off with a Caterham. Car is 1600 K series, but engine will be being upgraded to 1800 with cams to get a bout 175bhp. My maths suggest that's similar to a 200bhp Westie power to weight wise.. Steps back and waits for abuse... Mat1 point

+SOLD+ Up for reluctant sale is my Westfield narrow body kit car. The car was first registered in 1989 and In 2003 underwent a full nut and bolt rebuild to what it is today . A rather special and sorted flying machine. The car has only covered 7000 miles and is in brilliant condition. The engine was a brand new 2.0 Ford zetec with omex engine management and throttle bodies, cams built by Northampton motorsport and tested at 200bhp. It pulls very strongly indeed and sounds absolutely fantastic. Just fitted an uprated Helix clutch kit which feels lovely . I have just had another rolling road session and had the mapping adjusted to suit the new exhuast manifold. It has a race line manifold and wunoff repackable silencer. Braking is taken car of with willwood callipers up front at drums at the rear . It has a full caged roll cage fitted for added rigidity and security. New coolex radiator, silicone hoses etc . Carbon dash , seats and wings . Quaife ATB diff with an indipendant rear axle . type 9 gearbox with Quaife semi helical internals. Gaz adjustable coilovers ( recently serviced ) Comes with a set of antiroll bars not currently fitted . 35l fuel tank . A rather special little car which is an absolute blast to drive and very engaging. A mass of paperwork is included with build manuals and lots of receipts. In very good condition all over ready for the summer . I have had a few Westfields over the years and this is by far the best I have owned. It’s sits nicely on the road and has been built very well indeed. Fully road legal , a great car for either road or track . Incredibly cheap to insure and also under classic car insurance. Only for sale as we have just found a house we want to go for and need to sell off some toys unfortunately to make it possible . Any questions please just ask - car is in Tring , Hertfordshire. 07725131140 is my number . Thank you for looking.1 point

I have the same issue. It’s welded back up but I may give the bracket to a fabricator to try and improve with a similar version1 point

My exhaust mounting kit from Westfield finally arrived; took over a week. I had rigged up something temporary which seemed to work ok but this is more solid. I have had a couple of bobbins break on me when they were mounted sideways and under shear force, hopefully in compression I won’t have that problem again. I didn’t need all the parts but the bracket and bobbin are much stronger than my heath robinson fix.1 point

Not got the car any more but it was decked out with a reasonable amount of carbon (aeroscreen, cycle wings, tunnel top, dash) and had other lighter items like wilwood calipers, 13” cxr wheels, grp seats, alloy bellhousing and a lithium battery. Would have been lighter without a cage though! Got a bit heavier with me it of course 🤣1 point

Spotted your post on SELOC about the caterham. From what I’ve heard and from experience of our local lads that have had both, a Caterham “out of the box” is a fair bit better than the average Westy. But a well built and well setup westy can easily match or exceed it - for a lot less £££ Having researched the K series while on my original quest for an Elise, I think they are not as bad as they are made out to be, but you do need to be sure the head gasket is ok. But if you really want a Caterham this one is the kiddie. Been trying to chase it around the highlands - without much luck in the keeping up department 🤣 360bhp with a sequential box - utterly bonkers.1 point

K-series is an interesting engine, they mod quite well and produce good power but have a reputation of being fragile especially issues with head gaskets/warping heads. Good write up on this here. As for the Caterham vs Westfield thing. Dunno, I couldn't justify the price of a Caterham but could squeak the Westfield into budget...1 point

Yep I'd feel the same. I saved 5 bees and a moth this week. Fed the struggling bees sugar water, amazing how quickly they recover after supping some up! Those dragonflies are beautiful things and have been around since before the dinosaurs. Don't see them as often as we did when I was a kid.1 point

The day after Malvern, @SteveB21 and I did the London to Brighton kit and sports car run. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day, and our navigators to seemed to enjoy following the tulip map and directing us around the largely rural roads. This was my third time and Steve's first. The route varies year to year, this time it was about 90 miles including a lunch stop at Chiddington Castle. Its a great event in which to mix with like-minded souls in a huge variety of cars completing the Classic Car run (on a slightly different route), the Modern Classic run and the kit/sports car run. Lots of interest and questions from onlookers as well after we parked up on Madeira Drive. Weather was great too. Here's a few photos, starting with very nonchalant Steve relaxing prior to the start at Brooklands (a great place to visit on its own):1 point

What is it exactly? I can't decide if it's a brake bias device, a steering wheel quick release or some kind of kinky S&M weapon 😂1 point

So completely un Westfield related but I hope worthy of a mention. On Saturday (have been recovering since) I took part in a 20 mile walk around the Ullswater Way in the Lake district. Done primarily to support a colleague who has been fighting a chronic illness for the past 4 years meaning mobility can be very painful. He set himself the challenge of doing this and we agreed to support him. I mean how hard can it be. But wow was I in for a shock. I made the mistake of not doing anywhere near enough training for this though I thought I was reasonably fit and active. But wow was it tough for someone not used to this type of thing. Unfortunately I didn't quite make it. I was just 1 mile short when I had to stop due to a knee injury. But what a day. The team supported each other to get as far as they could. All but 3 of us made it the full distance. I think what surprised me the most was how rough the track was and in places more like a bolder field. But the views were stunning despite the poor weather and I would love to do it again. I would also be a little more prepared . But Chris, who we were doing this for, shamed us all. His effort was incredible and he completed the challenge amazingly well. I didn't have many pictures of the trail itself but here are a few from the day. But more importantly a shameless plug for the charity we decided to raise money for during the walk with a bit more info on what we did. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Team-Avtel-UK?utm_term=m8ZyEENEQ1 point

Whilst decorating my daughter’s play room (for her birthday in March), my Mum made the suggestion of building a window seat. During discussions about where to put the TV, I somewhat foolishly suggested making it rise up out of the window seat. In the end, I couldn’t quite manage that, but have built it into the lid which works very well. It has a couple of sprung pegs which lock it it place when lifted up, and a pull cord to retract them to put the lid down. Somewhat over budget and two months behind schedule it is a relief to get it finished finally, and just in time for the Canadian GP 😊 Oh, and yes it’s resemblance to a coffin has been noted 🤬🤣1 point

Well, it was bound to happen one day... Whist packing up a returns box to CBS, I made a great job of packing and used the last of the gaffer tape on the box. Only to realise I had left the free postage sticker inside the box !!!!!!!!!. Wasn't that cheap after all to send this back, need to buy another roll of gaffer now1 point
