A superb trip, and a great weekend - like all these sorts of things, as fantastic as the roads and scenery are, it's the people that make it. And that's something the WSCC family excels at!7 points

Hi everyone, Just joined the club after buying my first Westfield at the start of June. I only had it a day before heading off to the Alps on a road trip, I'm now home and still getting to grips with it. I purchased it from Big d through his advert here and although there was a great distance involved he was a gent and the process was painless. Its strictly not my first Westfield tbh, I did have an SE kit back in the 90's, however with an impending wedding, honeymoon and new house etc it was an expense too far and I sold it unfinished. Had my first run in it on Sunday down to the Jim Clark museum in Duns, which I thought was quite fitting and not too far for the first one. I plan on putting plenty of miles on it, that's what it's for after all and I'm blessed with some great roads up here. Hopefully I'll get to meet some other owners and club members on my travels, weather permitting! Cheers Craig6 points

My 2 favourite photo's We called in to Malham on the Saturday and walked to Malham Cove, the RSPB were there with their telescopes and we were able to view a male and a female Peregrin Falcon. I tapped them for a photo while we were there. This morning we drove past Bamburgh Castle after visiting Holy Island5 points

Spotted your post on SELOC about the caterham. From what I’ve heard and from experience of our local lads that have had both, a Caterham “out of the box” is a fair bit better than the average Westy. But a well built and well setup westy can easily match or exceed it - for a lot less £££ Having researched the K series while on my original quest for an Elise, I think they are not as bad as they are made out to be, but you do need to be sure the head gasket is ok. But if you really want a Caterham this one is the kiddie. Been trying to chase it around the highlands - without much luck in the keeping up department 🤣 360bhp with a sequential box - utterly bonkers.2 points

That would be good, although it's a factory build with only 1100mls there are a few things that need sorting. Firstly the brakes need a good service, though as I grew in confidence I was throwing it about on the roads I knew well. Glen Devon is a favourite for a Friday night and up to Lochearnhead etc and usually biker free at that time. One of my mates has recently completed a MK Indy build so we'll hopefully get some miles in. Cheers1 point

Important announcement and a reminder for this event: FREE the fee is being reimbursed by the club. Do not worry about the weather, please arrive in any kind of car, it is not a drive out. This is a full guided factory tour 'How it's Made' style, showing all areas of a kit car manufacturer. Who is coming?1 point

Thanks for the warm welcome 🙂 I should've clarified we went in the wife's car, I think suggesting we took the Westfield would've ended in divorce and anyway there's no room for all her shoes and handbags.1 point

Nissan Pulsar alloy plenum with a custom backplate used to be a useful item, maybe hard to get hold of these days though... https://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/9/viewthread.php?tid=1491611 point

I think they were made by Luke a Playskool, but they stopping trading. I’d suggest an alloy item will handle boost better. I’m sure I’ve seen something at GBS.1 point

The day after Malvern, @SteveB21 and I did the London to Brighton kit and sports car run. We both thoroughly enjoyed the day, and our navigators to seemed to enjoy following the tulip map and directing us around the largely rural roads. This was my third time and Steve's first. The route varies year to year, this time it was about 90 miles including a lunch stop at Chiddington Castle. Its a great event in which to mix with like-minded souls in a huge variety of cars completing the Classic Car run (on a slightly different route), the Modern Classic run and the kit/sports car run. Lots of interest and questions from onlookers as well after we parked up on Madeira Drive. Weather was great too. Here's a few photos, starting with very nonchalant Steve relaxing prior to the start at Brooklands (a great place to visit on its own):1 point

It was quieter than a normal factory open day at GBS, I guess because of the weather forecast but that's ok because there was more cake to go round. Pizza was also available for a small charge, drinks and cakes were free and there were charity tins on the table for you to express your gratitude. The actual weather was dry and sunny until midday, a shower came over and we left at that point. This kept us quiet for a while The Kit Spares shop was open Money was spent Steve is the main guy in the parts department, give him a call if you need anything, he has helped a lot of us (me included) in the past. Steve @Martin Bell - (Bellyboy) Joint East Anglia AO was chauffer driven, thank you John for bringing him and your car. There were some Zero's on display Other cars turned up, all types of cars are invited. A great morning out, meeting some nice people and an offer from GBS for our club to come back and do a factory tour (small charge to cover costs). It would be good to get a multi area meet doing this as it is a good location to get the Derbyshire/Notts, Yorkshire, East Anglia and Peak District areas together. Let me know your thoughts! No run out in the Peak District next weekend as we are all driving the Pennine Way on our Long Way North trip but hope to see you the weekend after.1 point
