  2. Here is me old mans locost build. We started this when me and my brother were still in school and were being allowed to use the school workshops after school for projects. After finishing an off road go kart, we were on the hunt for another project. When in halfords, nestled in with the Haynes manuals, I found Ron Champion's book, build your own sports car for £250. I begged my old man to buy it and we took it to the school the next day. The head of design technology gave the green light to build the chassis in the workshop and that was it, we were off. A sierra 2.0L DOHC was bought at auction for £175 and being the book was based on a ford escort mk1 or 2, a real engineering challenge started. The chassis is all stainless steel box section and every single component we could hand craft, was. All suspension bushes hand machined. Suspension arms all stainless steel and the geometry is all of our own design. The plastics were bought as seconds from MK sportscars, back when it was MK and his dad working out of their shed and a small unit. We did the fluted sides back before seeing anyone else doing them. Leaving school and loosing the workshop. The car got put into storage for many years and my old man often thinking of selling. Me and my brother wouldn't let it go and it stayed stored until I bought my 1st house purely because it had a large garage. Finally in 2012, we got the car finished and through her IVA. The cars been cherished and used every summer since. With me getting the S2000 and us seeing how much better the LED lights are. She's still getting upgrades even now.

  5. Hi everyone, Just joined, thought I'd share a pic of my car at the National Kit Car show - what a fantastic day that was! Anyone in Hampshire/Surrey/Sussex area? Would love to know who you use for maintenance for when I don't have time, and, ahem, kit car friendly MOT's? 😬 Also, any local meet ups happening over the summer??

  7. Brilliant evening again last night! I wasn't sure what the turnout would be like given a load of us had just been away at Malvern but I needn't have worried! Colin, Hedley and I met up in Swadlincote before a really enjoyable blat up the quiet local B roads. It wasn't long after arriving, the cars and members started piling in! We ended up with one Luego, 10 Westfields and a TR6 plus over twenty people and three dogs 😂 One full car park! One full pub! We had loads to chat about with the Sprint Series coming to our area this which we will he going along to support. Dates for the diary: 23rd June @ Mallory Park. Tickets are £8 per person and can be booked here https://www.malloryparkcircuit.com/event/msuk-sprint-featuring-the-british-sprint-championship-2024-06-23/2024-06-23/ 29th and 30th June @ Curborough. Double header on Saturday and Sunday, spectators are free as is usual at the Curburgring. We spent ages in the car park with an amazing mix of cars with almost every engine imaginable.... a Vauxhall redtop, two Pinto's (one on bike carbs, one on Webers), a Sport250, a 1.6 ecoboost, Mazda 1.8 turbo, two 1.8 Zetecs (one on bike carbs, and one on ITB's), two 2.0 Zetecs (one supercharged, one on ITB's) and an S2000. New bike carbs on the 1.8 zetec: 1.6 ecoboost... running 220bhp but about to be upgraded to 300+!!! A few of us had a long chat with Malcolm who has just finished his build and is about to book his IVA (exciting times!). We have obviously offered our collective support to get a few experienced eyes on the car before the test. Can't wait to see the Westfield Racing Green car on the road 👍 Really great to see everyone, hope you all got home safe and hope to see you at the next meet 👍

  8. Excellent drive out today around the Forest of Dean and Monmouthshire. A few holdups but generally pretty clear. I even decorated the car in homage to D-day.

  14. It really is sad news . I saw matt about a month ago when I went to collect something from him and even though he wasn't really up to having visitors he said come around Ash i will sort you out and we had a really good chat and in true matt fashion he'd got some stories and we had a good laugh I was only popping in for 5 minutes and an hour and a half later I was still there . I think Matt and his dad Ivan were Genuine nice people and they had a great understanding of seven style cars Rest easy Matt another one gone far to early but atleast your suffering is over now 🏁

  15. I've owned 4 kits, all pretty much same day impulse purchases. Only regretted one, the Cossie Fisher Fury. I knew it wasn't great when I bought it but I'm a man of my word so paid up. Loved all the other 3, but at one point owned 3 of the 4 all at the same time. I struggle to let go 😂 Until a few months ago I still had 2. Thankfully now it's just the Flying Carrot My current Westfield is my 1st and probably my last as I cannot see myself selling it for another. No point, it's an amazing car and I'm extremely attached to it. I will make a few small changes over time but nowt major. I actually do have ADHD and I suspect that does play a role in my impulse buying and not selling when I should. I was homeless once and lost near enough everything. 15 years later it was all back again. Clearing out junk and stuff is not my forte 😂

  18. (NOW SOLD!) Westfield 2001 SEiW Vauxhall 2.0 Redtop Sport 205, C20XE, COSCAST Head. Type 9 Gearbox I’ve owned this car for nearly two years and it’s a fantastic car, a real head turner too. However, I’ve just bought another car and I simply can’t justify keeping this one to sit around in the garage and not have my full attention. I love driving this car, it really is great. The engine was rebuilt at 6450 during the previous owner’s custodianship of the car. Receipts in the extensive folder. The car has now done 12,100 and I’ve done the last 4600 miles in it. The car was MOT’d in April and passed once again, without any issues or advisories. Over the winter I installed a lightweight flywheel (£375) replaced the existing brand QED 4 paddle spring clutch plate with a new one (£320), new water pump and I also had a new custom silencer made (£325). The old clutch plate is fine, but I changed it whilst the engine was out, which provides a nice spare. I also installed a new alternator, coil pack, new HT leads, plugs and a new battery. The car sounds fantastic and drives lovely. The Jenvey ITBs have been set and balanced properly, giving a smooth powered delivery from that C20XE torque. For serious buyers, I’m happy to take out on a test drive (I’ll drive), weather permitting of course. A few other quick ref points about the car. Featured in Westfield world August 2020 Titan motorsport Quick rack 2.0 Reconditioned Cosworth 3.92 LSD diff Brake bias valve. New Helix Four paddle cerametallic clutch and Heavy duty clutch cover plate. (QED Motorsport) DTA S40pro ecu fully programmable and mapped. Jenvey throttle bodies, Zero degree Jenvey manifold. Detachable steering wheel. Mintex pads + grooved front disks Independent rear suspension. Gen1 front wide track suspension Ctek charger and new battery. 20. Ah, excellent, that is the bang straight military road I see just near the Twice Brewed Inn. I have just had a look on google maps and the tree is still standing on there! Thanks for pointing it out, although there is now no tree to see, I have made a note on the directions.

  21. Thought I'd give an update given I've just collected the car again... The garage did some tests before they dived in head deep into the engine and the upshot is that what you see in the header tank is rust/residue/crud from not driving it over winter. It's not oil and I'm not losing oil into the coolant after all. However, a leak test revealed some cylinders leaking upto 40%, and that combined with oily plugs (new ones fitted this winter) it seems my engine is now a heavy drinker of the black (the other black) stuff. Advised to check frequently, top up when needed and start saving for a full engine rebuild...

  38. I am saddened to be reporting that Mathew Gilmour, owner of Procomp Motorsport, sadly passed away last week. He had been suffering with poor health for a while and eventually passed away as a result. For those that didnt know of Procomp, Matt and his late father Ivan, were renowned and respected Westfield and kit car in general preparation specialists. They helped me immensely with my Speed Series winning Westfield whilst I owned it. RIP Matt
