  1. Huge thanks to @HB46443 for taking time out to come along. Also, thanks to @AndrewBClarkewho had intended to come before some last minute work commitments put paid to his plans, the thought still counts my friend. Hedley and I managed to land on time (after a horrible, traffic ridden 90 minute journey through Nottingham) and lead @simmi's hearse to the Crematorium. We managed a couple of somber, slow circuits of the car park before heading home. Hopefully we helped in some small way on a very sad day. My deepest condolences to Neil's family and friends. Judging by the large number of people there, he was loved by many.

  2. Managed to remember to take a photo of mine at work today. Used just yesterday and today this week.

  3. We’re not working ( don’t try too hard when I’m there !) I’m definitely not doing 3mph and we don’t want our bottoms blacking 🫣 so as long as it’s not throwing it down we’ll be there , luv A&B

  4. My late 70's Mum managed it just after mine past IVA in 2016- Getting in wasn't too bad, getting out not so easy!

  5. Second day for me, back into Dartford from Wokingham. Could be a long trek home tonight, being a Bank Holiday Weekend though 🤪

  6. Well, I certainly like a challenge, that’s for sure! I left work at 3.15pm, and arrived home at 8.45pm! 5.5 hours 🤪 Traffic was horrendous, unsurprisingly given the bank holiday. I took what was proposed as a faster route down the A3 and A31 which in itself was very hefty, no idea if it cost me time or saved it. At one point, whilst heading down a country lane, I happened upon a ewe with young lamb which had escaped from their field. I spent about 25 mins with a couple of others rounding them up and back somewhere safe! I topped up with fuel just near work, had one comfort break/leg stretch off the A31 somewhere, and then filled up at the ESSO garage on the A303 near West Knoyle. That took me about ten minutes to get back on the A303 due to the amount of traffic using the garage! The final challenge was losing an exhaust bolt about 30 minutes from home, so I had to limp home sounding like a cross between a Messerschmitt and a VW Camper van 🤣. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it all, despite the challenges. 457 miles in two days, job done 👍.

  7. Just had my wife's uncle George for a quick run, he's 82. Repayment for driving his Catapiller.

  8. Well, third leg completed successfully! Lovely weather and roof off for the drive in. I had a bit of a lie in, up at 5.48 having gone back to sleep after the 5am alarm. Left at 6.30am and in by 8am. Quite sticky through the roadworks but much better once past the M26 turn off and all the variable speed limits. Just the big one to do now, Dartford to Crewkerne on a Bank holiday Friday, what could possibly go wrong? 🤣🤣 Planning to leave by 3pm, but could still be a long trip home. Might be staring at Stonehenge for a while with all the grockles 🤪.

  9. Second leg completed with no problems but with very heavy traffic on both M25 and M3. Very pleasing that the car behaved perfectly, sitting at 85 degrees most of the time, occasionally nudging 90 but quickly back down again. Trying to persuade my soon to be 89 year old Mum to come out for a spin this evening 🤣

  10. Doesn’t feel like it sometimes Dan 😴. My days in Dartford always involve a lack of sleep and a lot of miles but somehow I manage. First leg completed successfully, a good run up, no rain, just some damp roads and normal M3 and M25 jams in the roadworks. Stopped for a top up in South Petherton then Fleet Services. Some fun on the A303 and the last stretch to work which is actually in South Darenth, not Dartford. I set off at a bit before 5am, and got into the office at 7.50am, roughly 3 hours with stops which is ok, particularly given the normal Westfield phaffing at stops, getting in and out with the roof on etc. Just need to stay awake in my meetings today now 🤣, and no, I don’t work in the shed by the car 🤣

  11. Here for sale is my 2000 (W) Westfield Megabusa. I originally looked at moving the car on around this time last year but decided to keep it and fit a full windscreen instead. This was carried out through the guys down at the new Westfield factory (using all new parts at not insignificant expense), but I’ve found that I’m still not using the car as much as I’d like. I’ve just got to the point where I have to admit that the way I use a second car has now changed, and although I've loved it (a Megabusa was always the one for me!) and it's a lovely car, it just doesn't fit my lifestyle at the moment. The car has an interesting story as it was the press demonstrator for the factory during the year 2000, appearing on the “2 Wheels Better” program on Men and Motors, which included an interview with Chris Smith about the bike-engined revolution while he was sitting in the driver’s seat. This can still be seen on YouTube at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_DaCqTgiPM&list=PLW4hczp_CZb4DI1EE5zRzFqEvDmBtbpmq&index=1 Around the same time it also appeared in Car magazine’s Performance Car of the Year test against a Caterham R500 and Lotus 340R. It can also be seen in various Kit Car magazines from back in the day, as well as the "Westfield Story" book, copies of which I have collected over the last few years and will be sold on with the car. As you can imagine from its press car status, it was very highly spec’d from the factory, with the specification briefly comprising: Image 13” 2-piece light alloy wheels. Westfield Dry Sump System. Westfield Reverse Gearbox. Quick Release Steering Wheel. Carbon Fibre Nose Cone. Carbon Fibre Cycle Wings. Carbon Fibre Dashboard. Carbon Fibre Centre Console. Carbon Fibre Tunnel Top. Carbon Effect Stoneguards. Willans 4-Point Harnesses. Nitron Shockers. Front and Rear Anti-roll Bars. After it’s time with Westfield, the car was bought by a collector and stayed with him for 18 years or so, having very little use within that period. It was then put up for auction and bought by Castle Cars in Cornwall who had been tasked by one of their customers to source the very best example of a bike-engined Westfield that they could get their hands on. They then went through the car, recommissioning it, before their customer found that at 6’ 4” and 18-19 stone, they couldn’t fit in it! It was at that point in 2019 that I bought it, travelling down to Cornwall from Merseyside with a trailer to pick it up one Saturday. It’s my 3rd bike-engined Westfield having built a Megablade during 2000 and subsequently keeping it for 11 years, before then building a Megabird after that. When built, the car was fitted with a brand new Hayabusa engine from a donor bike (as was Westfield’s way at the time) and has covered very little mileage since (less than 2,000), which is reflected in its condition, with only minor wear and tear to the bodywork and interior despite being almost 25 years old. The car has recently been serviced, with new oil and filter, spark plugs and a set of coils. Last year the shockers were serviced and dyno-tested by Nitron down at the factory, and the adjusters on the rear shockers were renewed. I have all invoices and details of all the maintenance carried out while in my possession, including the invoices from Westfield for the windscreen upgrade. We've had some adventures, and it will be missed, but time for somebody else to enjoy it now. £12,950 ono. I’ve added some walk around videos on YouTube, which can be found here: Please call or WhatsApp on 07394 113927, or message through here. I also have some spares such as an RAC Rollbar, new rear stoneguards (still in the package, never fitted), the original carbon fibre Westfield aeroscreen and mirrors, and a replacement sump panel for the dry sump system (picked up as it was the last one "old" Westfield had in stock, and I bought it just in case). These can be had through separate negotiation.

  12. Meet at Quacker's Cafe, Bakewell, DE45 1NY, 10am for refreshments. If the weather behaves we will also go for a run out and grab some lunch. The forecast is showers at the moment (Thursday evening) so anything can happen before Sunday with these naughty meteorologists. Who is joining us?

  13. And so it begins. National Drive your Westfield to Work week for me involves a trip from Crewkerne to Dartford, back to Wokingham for the night, then Dartford and back to Crewkerne Friday night. Weather looks ok, and I enjoy a challenge, so why not. If you see a gulf scheme Westfield by the side of the M25, give me a wave 👋👋 🤣🤣

  14. Well that's what I call being committed ( some say you should be ) well done that was some week, loved your stories and the above photo of the lost sheep, here's to next year - anything planned ?, lol.

  15. You and me both. The Westy has been my only car now for the past 13 years, over that time it has left the driveway very little. I do prefer to tinker with it rather than drive it, and when I do drive it it's to test the tinkered bits, lol... Before Westy life I had a perfectly good Volvo Estate, the Westy came along and I then spent more of my time on the Westy than driving the Volvo - that got sold.. Wind the clock forward from 2011 and things haven't changed I still play with the Westy in the garage , but just of late a health issue arose meaning that life may have to end prematurely, a more "sensible " car has been purchased and hoping that may get me out more ( we will see) . For me cars, or perhaps kitcars are more about the engineering side, I love building new bits for it, see them fail and build a better one. I guess it depends on how much you would miss that side of it should you part company with either car. I too will have two cars again by this time next week, although quite which one I end up playing with the most is anyone's guess. Eta Your post has made me think a bit more on my own situation, and I reckon what I will do is to wait till most of the road legality expires and then SORN it ( the Westy) that way I can't really mess with it much as I will be unable to test anything. My now freed up time can be spent on the new arrival and actually driving it, something of a novelty for me that - just driving for the heck of it...

  16. If I can find it - doubtful but I'll try , I have ( had) a photo of my Gran who was 86 at the time and just after completing the rebuild on my Spitfire we went to South Wales from the Wirral to have a holiday in a static caravan, but it wasn't just Gran that was in the car either, I had just gained a dog , a Spitfire is not a big car inside ( or out) so we were sort of packed in a tincan - bit like sardines... Hope I can put my hands on the photo.

  17. I bought my Westfield after my mum died, I justified it by saying she would have wanted me to have one and she would definitely have been up for a run. She was 88 when she died.

  21. Ditto. A particular cult used to knock on my door every Saturday morning at 10:15, two men in suits, excessively happy, with a small child in tow and left by my front gate. For months, they wouldn’t take a hint to bog off, even when it applied with the subtlety of a brick. Finally, one Saturday morning, I was ready for them. Bang in time at 10:15, the bell rang. I opened the door while dressed from head to toe in red, 666 on my forehead with red lipstick and a huge carving knife in my hand. “Thank goodness you’re here! That goat is loose in the house! Come help me!” They disappeared like a fart through hemp pyjamas and never returned.

  25. Bit of a photo bomb this, as I missed yesterday and according to the forecast Wed, Thurs and Friday are wash outs. So unless that forecast is wrong this could well be my weeks worth. Shopping in the Village, never knew we had a chimney sweep around here still... Was such a nice day I went to the local park / estuary and had lunch on the park bench. As I have just bought a Herald, I went to see a chap who has one, sadly he was out, I am parked in his spot here, he lives on one of the house boats, this is 5 mins further down the Estuary. From here a nice ride home, I didn't go far but nice to be out and about for a change.

  27. Purposely left my van at my yard so I could drive there to pick it up. Can’t really take tools in the Westy so had to swap over.

  28. Just took the Midlana for an MOT. All good. Now comes the thorny issue of me actually using it. Fundamentally I have become something of a recluse these days, so we have to make an actual effort to go out, and then we have to decide Westy or Midlana. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I'm a misanthrope at the best of times, so the real question is why the heck did I build the thing in the first place..... If I can't put some decent miles on it this year then I think I need to face up to the obvious and sell it - simply no point having it sit in the shed all year doing nothing. Last year it did 142 miles, the year before just 24 - to and from the MOT. For years now I've made the remark that we barely need 1 car, but we've had 3 or more for as long as I can remember.
