The MEC One you saw at Curborough today is my car and you are right about what it stands for. I walked past the car as someone was photographing it, perhaps it was you Rob. The mid engine arrangement uses a 1.6 Zetec SE engine, gearbox and driveshafts from a Ford Focus. The engine is standard but gains an extra 20 horsepower by the use of an Omex 600 ECU. The engine and gearbox are not turned around, just moved backwards. The only problem is that the gear selection is rearranged and not wanting to having to select first gear ware fourth should be a compensating mechanism is used to bring the gears back to their normal positions. The roll cage is integrated into the structure of the chassis and the front hoop forms the frame for the windscreen. When looking for a bespoke windscreen I went to several windscreen companies asking if they could cut one down from a larger one but I only got negative waves saying it could not be done without cracking. Eventually I found someone willing to give it a go. A Ford Escort mark three screen was only £28 pounds and the deal was if it cracked it would cost me £28 and if successful the bill would be £56 pounds. It cut without a problem at a good price for a special screen. I also have a Westfield SEIW but that is in dry dock having an engine transplant Cheers Malcolm (Price)6 points

Not a wind up....honest! IMHO the Kent X-flow is more in keeping with the original '7' mantra, and the soundtrack is second to none - in fact some of the more modern engines are miles behind in the noise enjoyment too... More modern engines are more powerful and more reliable, and nicer running, but that kind of takes away the romance of owning a 7 to me anyway....nursing a cold engine on twin webbers with no choke until it can tick over under its own steam, is a skill that most younger drivers have never experienced, which i find a bit sad too....pulling up to the first few junctions, balancing the throttle and using the handbrake would probably see a risk assessment required now lol... I think there is a bit of snobbery involved too when looking at an old x flow engined car, and many write them off as being too slow. As pointed out above though, a well fettled example with 130 plus bhp, whilst on paper being way underpowered to other more modern equipment, in real terms can be not too far behind. Last year I had the pleasure of a 60 plus mile blat with a Caterham 420 owner who was very complimentary about my x-flow se registered in '92!!!! Mart.4 points

What does S2000+S2000 + 2 X Sport 250 equal? Let's ask someone good with numbers A cracking Euro road trip! @Si.Dalziel @Jim cunliffe& @Tim.Coles are joining me for this years pilgramage to the Alps. We're departing on the 27th June and spending 4 nights in Austria before heading over to new territory - The Dolmomites for 3 nights. We were 'blessed' with our first obstacle shortly after booking the train in January from Düsseldorf to Innsbruck and return, to be advised due to work on the lines, they can no longer transport us from Düsseldorf and we can now travel from Hamburg instead! Just great! We've now got a 328 mile blat from Rotterdam to Hamburg in less than 12 hours, which means it will need to be Autobahn- I just hope @Si.Dalziel & @Jim cunliffe behave at this point and don't try a rematch of which is the fastest - S2000 or Sport 250! They both won 'prizes' for their last attempt in Wales! We'll provide trip updates on the Westfield FB group and here too (as and when time allows).3 points

(NOW SOLD!) Westfield 2001 SEiW Vauxhall 2.0 Redtop Sport 205, C20XE, COSCAST Head. Type 9 Gearbox I’ve owned this car for nearly two years and it’s a fantastic car, a real head turner too. However, I’ve just bought another car and I simply can’t justify keeping this one to sit around in the garage and not have my full attention. I love driving this car, it really is great. The engine was rebuilt at 6450 during the previous owner’s custodianship of the car. Receipts in the extensive folder. The car has now done 12,100 and I’ve done the last 4600 miles in it. The car was MOT’d in April and passed once again, without any issues or advisories. Over the winter I installed a lightweight flywheel (£375) replaced the existing brand QED 4 paddle spring clutch plate with a new one (£320), new water pump and I also had a new custom silencer made (£325). The old clutch plate is fine, but I changed it whilst the engine was out, which provides a nice spare. I also installed a new alternator, coil pack, new HT leads, plugs and a new battery. The car sounds fantastic and drives lovely. The Jenvey ITBs have been set and balanced properly, giving a smooth powered delivery from that C20XE torque. For serious buyers, I’m happy to take out on a test drive (I’ll drive), weather permitting of course. A few other quick ref points about the car. Featured in Westfield world August 2020 Titan motorsport Quick rack 2.0 Reconditioned Cosworth 3.92 LSD diff Brake bias valve. New Helix Four paddle cerametallic clutch and Heavy duty clutch cover plate. (QED Motorsport) DTA S40pro ecu fully programmable and mapped. Jenvey throttle bodies, Zero degree Jenvey manifold. SPD Pico 690cc injectors. SPD coil pack. Fully 3D RR mapped in 2020. Full laser Geometry alignments all set up 2021. Westfield seats and runners MOT till April 2025, passed no advisories. Detachable steering wheel. Mintex pads + grooved front disks Independent rear suspension. Gen1 front wide track suspension Ctek charger and new battery. Hi, my name's Andy (good friends with Richard Old Stager). Currently with Rich having just completed my membership. I won't be on here much as I haven't got the car yet but will do one day. In the mean time i'll be tinkering with my 1975 Series 2 XJ. Regards Andy3 points

Even I haven't seen those, looking smart there. I whatsapp'd you BTW ETA Glad those silly fake spoked wheels are off it now, the first pic looks far better.3 points

Are we brothers from another marriage my mother never told me about , because I agree 100% in everything you said. You know as well as I do, when faced with a boyracer today in the average tintops they use, which one is going to lose. Not that I condone racing on the street BTW, very very naughty is that... And yet they are sat laughing at this very old looking car which proceeds to leave them far behind never to be seen again.., lol. Colin Chapman had it right the first 7 he made, light car , small capacity engine that was tuneable, was it Caterham or Lotus that were banned from racing because they kept winning everything, can't recall now, but I heard they had T shirts made, something like Too Fast To Race, lol3 points

Car passed its MOT today, so all up for Wednesday evening in Collumpton and then Dartford Thursday. Have put the doors back on, and will probably put the roof on too as the forecast looks dodgy!2 points

totally!! It’s all part of the charm. i went out for a blat with someone in an 2.0 zetec and another in a bec, and they commented on how well it did on a spirited drive. One major problem is space. I’d love to keep it AND buy another car, but aside from funding, where would I keep them all. My collection currently stands at a Transporter van, Audi S3, Defender 90, 911 997.2 and the Westfield. It’s getting a bit silly. I just love cars!2 points

Hi Malcolm, Shame we missed meeting you! We have a couple of locals with MEV Rocket and Sonic7 cars so we're familiar with the FWD engine and box dropped in the rear, a brilliant solution! With the Sigma engine, it's probably more similar to the Silva Riot though. Love the car, hope we get to meet you in person over the summer 👍2 points

I thought it would sell quite quickly, to be honest. My gut says it’s the short MOT that’s perhaps put folks off, but it’s booked in for next week. It’s done less than 70 miles since the last mot so should be fine! I saw the crossflow engine as a great option for me, as a first time Westfield owner. No regrets. Went out for a drive this evening and the noise is so good. Perhaps I’ll end up keeping it whether I like it or not 😅 The major thing for me is that I don’t get chance to use it due to my frantic lifestyle and young family.2 points

Welcome! As Dave says, we're all just petrolheads here! We have quite a few active members just in my area who don't own Westfields Post up a photo of the XJ, I do love an old Jaaaaaag2 points

What a stunning day for it!!! Already quite warm at 9am I headed down to the first meeting point to meet the gang. Lee arrived bang on time and we waited a few minutes for Ian who had come cross country to meet us. Unusually I'd invited one of my neighbours Chris (a fellow petrolhead) who had brought his BMW K1300R superbike having never been to Curborough. A fun jog down the lanes and we landed at Curborough (with Hedley filming our arrival) to be joined by Rachael and Iain (doing their first run after yesterday's dyno session) and then Dan with his zetec powered car. Within minutes Colin also joined us so we had 2 Pinto's, 2 Zetec's and 2 S2000's! Chris's lovely K1300R The weather meant we had some beautiful cars in the car park! Maserati Biturbos are as rare as hens teeth! Classic brits! Yank tanks! On track we had everything from road legal hot hatches, classic Minis, Westfields, Caterhams, Radicals, Formula Ford, classic 911 and even an enormous Dodge Viper with its 8 litre V10! Watching the 911 being wrestled round was a real highlight, fabulous bit of driving in a rear engined classic! Heading home, Chris decided to attempt to follow me on the empty B roads... all I will say is that we might have another biker convert 😂2 points

For sale is my lovely Westfield 1700 Crossflow with twin webber 45’s, finished in Audi Nardo Grey. It underwent a full restoration in 2017 with a new carpeted interior, Williams harnesses, sports bucket seat, team dynamics wheels with Kumho v700 tyres amogst other things. All work is documented with receipts in the service history file. It was then repainted in Audi Nardo Grey in 2022 as part of a covid lockdown project. It’s a real head turner and I very often chat to passers by who fall in love with how it looks and sounds. A bit about the spec: Current mileage on the odometer is 2437 miles 1700 Ford Crossflow with twin webber 45 carbs Type 9 5-speed gearbox Sports exhaust SPAX coilovers Team Dynamics 13” alloys Kumho v700 tyres Sports seats with Williams harnesses. Weber throttle linkage Reconditioned Lucas starter motors with new internals To the best of my knowledge it has a Sierra/Westfield rear diff MOT is valid until June 16th 2024. Side doors included Wet weather hood included (but needs poppers installing to be able to use it) Seat runners included but not fitted (I am tall so have the seat bolted to the floor as far back as it goes. I installed a new Weber throttle linkage last Autumn before she went away for the winter, and since this upgrade it would benefit from a carb tune up to get it running its best. I sadly don’t have the skills or time. I have adjusted the asking price accordingly. In my ownership I have also had the Lucas starter motor rebuilt. If you are new to 7 cars don’t be put off by the xflow option. The car has a little over 100bhp so it goes well, but most of all it’s an authentic experience and the carbs sound wonderful. The car is the closest thing I’ve driven to a kart. It handles like it’s on rails. I’ve owned it for 2 years and I’m selling the car as I have a young family and I now need something that I can throw the kids in the back at the weekends. If anyone had a Mini Cooper JCW R56 or F56 I’d be interested in a px. Thanks all. Any other questions just ask. Dave 077733 09841 dave_clow00@yahoo.co.uk1 point

Hi Malcolm, It was good to see you and your car at the most recent Black Country Area meet. Shame I couldn't be at Curborough to catch up with you again. Clearly, you have spiked the interest of some of our members who were at Curborough though! Hope to catch up with you again over the summer.1 point

Congrats on MOT, not sure what the weather is supposed to be, I tend to just look out of the window these days... Hoping for a pic myself tomorrow, chickened out this afternoon.1 point

Perhaps too much Dave with that collection, well done . See your dilemma now, and guessing the Westy is the least practical of all your cars.1 point

Out of interest @daveclow where have you advertised it for sale? Anywhere other than on here? eBay and Pistonheads are worth trying IMHO. Plus of course dozens of groups on Facebook.1 point

I have added in a link to the Events Calendar under "Out & About with your Westfield". On a Mobile this appears prior to the Merch link, so might work better? On a desktop, events has it's own main menu anyway. Does this work OK folks?1 point

@daveclow I am biased, but I would , if you can afford it - keep the car and do your best to get hold of its replacement some other way , I love mine so much I would never sell it, in fact despite doctors orders to stop driving sports cars, I am keeping the car for a good friend of mine who will take it over when the time is right. There was a thread here recently about regrets when selling, and the vast majority either bought other one fairly soon after or they live on to regret it. You may not use it much ( just like me) but once it's gone - it's gone, and when I say that I mean your car, getting another might not be quite as good as your old one?. Anyway I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do.1 point
-
I agree Steve, I think its the engine, perhaps folks don't know what one is?, I mean they are old now aren't they, I think you have to know about the history of cars to actually appreciate not only the engine but the drive line etc. 20 years ago I would have snapped this up myself. I hope for two things though. It stays in the club and stays in the UK.1 point

Yes thanks Martin, that's why I now have a 1970 Herald, or will have when it arrives , not really interested in modern stuff. So once that is with me, I am hoping to get to further away places, we will just have to see. Yeah, its 5 discs for me, totally wrecked according to the X rays, Osteoporosis of the back , had to google that as although I had heard of the word I had no clue what it was. This explains the pain however, but the news about not driving a sports car kind of hit hard, had one , in one shape or form for over 30 years now. Hoping a classic saloon takes over where the Westy leaves off.1 point

Who would lie about it on the internet... surely no-one? 🤣1 point

I don't know how I missed this post, anyway, a great car and a fair price for spec. I was going to ask the age, but that's posted above, shame you can't keep it a tad longer and it would sell very easily - Albeit getting exported... Someone will get a real classic sound when they buy this.1 point

Given that it’s registered as a Price MEC One I would guess it’s a home built special. Price = name of builder MEC = Mid-Engined Car One = The first one they’ve built1 point

Sorry I am so darned far away from all these great shows, this one was right up my alley. Not a huge amount goes on around here for car fans, unless you want to show how much popping and banging you can do on the overrun... LOL. ( not my scene)1 point

Sun's out, car's out. 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 Great turn out this morning with 8 Westfields coming along. Breakfast outside as well. We also had a visitor from Nottingham with Roger coming up in his 11. Good to meet him, and thanks for coming up. Also, my first run for a while without calling the AA. (Car still not running well though)1 point

A small but very select group of us ventured out in the sunshine for a brilliant day in the glorious Peak District in our 7 style cars - two Westies and one roaring Tiger. I met up with @Jakejmagee with Laura at McD in Matlock and the sun decided to make an appearance. We took an ‘adventurous’ route to The Ramblers Inn at Edsle via the famous Winnates Pass where we were joined by @Chris Emm and Mo. After a lovely lunch we took to the small roads again and drove to The Fountain in Bonsall for the traditional Peak District cake top up. Thanks to our official photographer Laura and have unashamedly stolen her lovely photos of the day below.1 point

Hi, it’s that time of year again! Now, I had an absolute stinker with the recovery service during last year. In fairness, A-Plan were great in resolving it after the fact. So, for my renewal, I was reluctant to use the same recovery service. A-Plan were really helpful and did my renewal at a lower rate and made an arrangement to use a different recovery service. All done on a single call with the very helpful Natalie. Its nice when something does go wrong but the supplier sorts it out and then continues to give great service! Good job A-Plan! S1 point

@Davemk1 I kept referring to Autotests before, it's not quite what you are doing, but here is what that discipline looks like here in the uk, I also mentioned I thought my car had been once a car for this, since I discovered the marks from "knob" thing ( I don't know its real name) on the steering wheel, my reverse lock out has been removed and the diff was welded, I now see why. Quite a few 7's in this .1 point
