Had a ball yesterday; over 200 miles around Exmoor, expertly led by Adge who did a fantastic job organising and planning the route for the Dorset area. A few gate crashers including me from Devon & Somerset and Bristol joined to make eight cars (seven Westies and a very rapidly pedalled Mini van!), with an eighth Westie finding us for a while in Bude. Starting at Ralegh’s Cross Inn, we headed across to Bude for a stop at Widemouth bay, then up to Lynton and finally back to Ralegh’s Cross. Generally the roads were pretty clear; a few slow bits behind tractors, stopping to let a herd of ponies cross but plenty of fast open sections too, great fun! I’ve recorded much of it on my Insta 360 so will post some videos up from that, but here are some pics in the meantime. The guys are out for more fun today so I’m sure they will post up separately. Thanks again to Adge for organising, and to Chris, Rory and John for providing tools and help fixing my broken exhaust mount bobbin thingy! Temporary repair done by John to get me home today. 👍 Despite the warm weather, my temps stayed between 85 and 90 so the new rad and water pump etc are working well, and the brakes were fab with the new AP Racing master cylinder 👍. All in all, a grand day out; beautiful weather and great company. I do however need to learn that an ‘All you can eat’ full English Breakfast is not necessarily compatible with a narrow bodied Westfield 🤪 Leg 1 - Ralegh’s Cross to Widemouth Bay Leg 2 - Widemouth Bay to Lynton Leg Three - Lynton back to Ralegh’s Cross8 points

Whilst trying to change the handle on the pull start of my mower….. I let go of the string. Don’t try this at home kids!🤣 That is all 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Now sorted but it took a while 🤪🤪6 points

It’s certainly the full experience with them off. So long as it’s warm, not raining and you aren’t on Motorways then I enjoy it more. I just had the little wind deflectors on for our Exmoor trip and it was lovely, my hat even stayed on! When it warmed up, I took them off for some more fresh air but need to reverse the baseball cap and look a right idiot for it to stay on! 🤣6 points

I prefer the look of our cars with the doors off but the driving experience in my opinion is better with them on! 🤷♂️2 points

Not sure if people are aware of this, but there will be a total solar eclipse visible in Northern Spain on 12th August 2026. It’s not the longest from there, only around 1.5 minutes of totality and quite low but should still be good. Mrs Stu, Lorna and I are thinking of driving down in the TToS and doing a bit of a European tour afterwards, but I thought that maybe for anyone planning a drive over to Europe for a few weeks tour it would make a worthwhile stop over for a day or two. It will be likely crazy busy, so sorting accommodation early would be necessary but these things don’t happen very often so it’s well worth making the trip. Some details here: https://nso.edu/for-public/eclipse-map-2026/#:~:text=The August 12%2C 2026 total,%2C Portugal%2C and northern Spain.1 point

Keep scrolling, Si, keep scrolling 😉 At least he was complimentary and I can't disagree with his comment. This was this afternoon on my way back from the Oil Can Cafe at Holmfirth. He was in Glossop. I knew he was filiming and I heard his comments as he was doing it!1 point

@Stuart Thanks Stuart, I am prepared to give it another go, but I can't find the deflectors I made years ago, kind of thinking I binned them thinking well the doors are staying on, so why have these anymore. Searched everywhere, maybe they will turn up when I least expect it. I have to make mine ( and the doors) as I have a cat 7 windscreen frame and the rake is slightly different to a Westys one, also its taller as well.1 point

@Richard (OldStager) I very rarely take my sidescreens off. Find it much more comfortable that way (even though I have some wind deflectors)1 point

It's an interesting conundrum. Hacking to one side just for a moment... As far as huge corporations tracking "you", they do ask permission. It's in the Ts and Cs that no-one reads and we all just tick "I agree". "External" companies having access to medical information? Been going on for decades. What has changed is that to make the NHS more efficient (HA) a lot of it is now accessible. For me personally though, do I care that anyone can find out about my third eye, ingrowing toenail, kidney stones or whatever? No. I'm not so important that anyone else is going to care about my medical status. I suspect there are very few of us that fall into that category where medical knowledge leads to coercion or blackmail. Back to hacking. Big companies, and sometimes small companies, can be targets of hackers. The data discovered can be used to target individuals or the company as a whole, HOWEVER... the method of attack that we as individuals are most likely to succumb to is an email with a dodgy link. Clicking it and filling in forms or inadvertently downloading malware isn't really a hack in and of itself. The fact that our email address made it to a bad actor could be the result of a hack further upstream. And of course we all get dodgy emails from time to time. It a fact of life, like speed cameras. If anyone wants to check up on their exposure levels, or check for compromised emails and passwords have a look at https://haveibeenpwned.com/ As mentioned earlier, where possible use two factor authentication for emails, Amazon and anywhewre that might have payment details saved. For storing usernames and passwords, and for generating paswords I have used both Bitwarden and Keeper. Both are free and can be used across all devices. I was never sure about password vaults until I worked somethwere where the MINIMUM password lenghth was 32 characters. Both Keeper and Bitwarden can be used to generate random passwords and I find that feature very useful indeed.1 point

Stu’s suggestion of £10 per wheel boxed with DPD sounds good value if you can’t find a beer token option. Another courier option that might be worth checking out is Paisley Freight, click on their ‘wheel and tyres’ tab for a quote (noting what their packing requirements are), they also transport other car parts: https://www.paisleyfreight.com1 point

Cleaned & ready to go on track for the first time. I had an instructor booked yesterday to give me guidance before I tackle a track day. What a great time I had improving my technique and entry lines. The car felt epic and very predictable, when the rear broke away it was progressive and easily caught. I even had a hero moment of oversteer at the hairpin after that I steadily improved my lines to avoid this and carry more speed.1 point

Thanks to everyone who replied. Very fortunately a member who lives close to me saw this post and ended up selling me his Westfield! I am the proud new owner of @RX05s 1800 zetec. This car is a credit to its previous owner and is immaculate! So thanks again Hoping for many happy miles in this over the next few months 😎1 point
