An enjoyable day of spannering in the ๐! An oil and filter change, swapped over the wheels to my silver set and torqued up, checked all the pressures of the ZZR's, refitted the de-cat pipe (MOT was a week ago), replaced the W4 stainless Mikalor exhaust clamp (the old W2 had given up the ghost when I fitted the cat and had the horrible U-bolt type as a quick fix), a 20 minute wash and polish (the joy of Carplan No1 Super Gloss!), quick test drive to Halfrauds for some more glysantin G30 and she's all ready for Kitfest tomorrow. The old jalopy isn't looking too bad, the dailies are looking filthy now though ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐ Before: After:5 points

Hi, with the weather looking awesome, I'm heading to Kitfest tomorrow morning. Sunday will be the bigger show (the Fast Show is there on Sunday) but family commitments rule that out for me this weekend. Just a reminder, NWKCOG have a discount code for tickets (Northwest24) and you can book your ticket here for Saturday or Sunday (or both): https://santapodtickets.com/p/kitfest On Saturday morning, I will be leaving Swadlincote about 745am and heading down the A444 and A5 (avoiding the motorways like the plague!). I will be stopping just off Junction 18 of the M1 (A5/A428 Crick) at in the large layby/DVSA test station on the A428 (NN6 7SL) at about 9am for a 915am departure The What3Words for this layby is: digital.windmill.powder https://w3w.co/digital.windmill.powder I will then be taking the A & B roads down past Ravensthorpe, Brixworth, Sywell Aerodrome etc hoping to land at Santa Pod about 10am. If you are heading that way, feel free to tag along ๐2 points

Just a bit of a social. 10am Doddington Hall car park LN6 4RU then into the restaurant for coffee/cake/breakfast then move on to Lincoln Bomber Command (LN4 2HQ) for lunch (and a free guided tour if you would like). I have time pressures so will have to depart to come home soon after lunch but obviously itโs upto everyone else what they want to do.1 point

Basic biology lesson - one needs to be behind the other with its front wheels over the roll bar hanging on for dear life ๐1 point

Just took the car for its MOT. All good, running really sweetly too. No issues with emissions nonsense, thankfully, despite the system seeming to want to do them. Tester just ignored that section, given it is a Q plate.1 point

Sadly not, went from bad to worse. Boat delayed by a day due to poor weather. Specialist moved back a day to suit. Car would crank but not fire, no spark. Loose wire found under dash and got car running, but it wasn't running very well, suspect plug or igintion issue. Tried to warm engine up and it backfired (not unusual for a car on twin webers), however air filter caught fire. Fire put out, but possible slight fuel leak on one carb and dock workers definately don't want car on the ship as it is. Hence it's going a way for a few days to be fixed properly before it's booked back on a boat to Greece.1 point

Along with an eclectic mix of 80 other cars, participated in Minehead Motor Clubโs Spring Tour today. As usual, a very enjoyable ~70 mile run around the country lanes of the Quantock and Brendon Hills on the Somerset/Devon border. As expected plenty of mud and standing water about, at least the ford was shallow! Guess this week Iโll be cleaning the car!1 point

Thank you @AndrewBClarke for a great day out and for leading the run, that massive lamb dinner must be good fuel ๐, it meant we could get some rare photo's of our car from the front, thank you Sue @Andy Westwood. Great to meet you @Mark zawada and really glad you felt welcomed into our mad area. Watch out for @ianali they have photo's of the three point turn, Andrew got us to the right village but at the wrong end ๐ฎ, don't mention it though will you ๐ We went to the 'Member's Only Meet' at the museum first and made some new friends. Have you noticed, nobody has just 1 car๐ Car museum Car museum Lunch break Mark's wheels that we were drooling over. Toybox have plenty more of them for sale apparently. I hit the 70,000 mile mark on my odometer as we were travelling along today. That means I have driven 60,000 miles in a Westfield, yeah. On the move Great to see everyone and thanks for the laughs xxxx1 point

Do please post some pictures. I think the charm of these early cars now is in having them in close to original build spec, Ford Crossflow with twin sidedraft twin choke Webers (or a single twin choke downdraft Weber), live axle and 4 speed gearbox, rather than buying one now to extensively modify. I would get it up and running, replace the tyres, flexible fuel and brake hoses, brake pads and shoes, flexible coolant hoses, and give it a good service including replacing oil and antifreeze, new brake fluid, drain the fuel tank, flush out the radiator and heater, new filters - oil, air and fuel, new rotor arm, distributor cap, condenser, plugs and leads, check coil OK, check fuses, clean all earths and electrical connections. Then MoT and use and enjoy. I would not over restore it, just as built and back up to running condition. If you change your mind, such a project car is always of interestโฆ If you simply restore it it will always be saleable plus you wonโt have sunk too much into it.1 point

Thanks for that Julie, we should be able to create a nice itinerary from that. I'll try to keep a record of what we do and where we go. Ian, yes we will be in the Westy. We generally just have days out which is not really using the car enough. Last year we did the Lakes and will be doing a road trip each year.1 point

I tried calling tuesday and yesterday and today a number of times if you press 1 you just keep getting the good old answer phone So i pressed 2 and somebody answered straight away Nick who apparently works in parts and he was very surprised when i told him about how i keep getting the anwser phone but if I'm honest i just got the impression he didnt want to speak to me in person it was please send an email ๐ก Rule number 1 in business when you have somebody on the phone wanting to part with money try your very best to take there money because as soon as they put the phone down they will be looking to buy the same part from elsewhere. I'm really notsure i can be bothered to send emails backwards and forwards just to buy a simple part . Bring back Patrick and Jase the old parts boys them could smell a debit card from 100 yards away and would never let you put the phone down or leave the factory without trying to get you to spend as much as possible And Pat worked out over a 3 year period I had spent just over ยฃ120k with the factory mainly in parts just before he left you cannot even spend ยฃ20 with them these days Rant over happy Thursday ๐ ๐1 point
