The Speed Committee wish to give early advice as to the thinking of the 2024 championship and detailed regs will be published later. Looking at the numbers year on year scoring in the WSCC speed series it is obvious that it needs to change for 2024 and beyond or risk dropping to such low numbers that it won't be worth running. Looking at the previous championships that have been run and talking to people that have competed in them a couple of key things have emerged which are worth changing. We currently run our own classes which is fine if the championship has a lot of numbers at one stage it was up to 120, we aren't there now and we are down at something like 25 Westfield's competing for 2023. So with regard to classes and looking at the venues that we go to during the year as a championship the speed series organising team consider it is sensible to change our classes to match the classes at the events that we are running at, to that end we're going to adopt the Northern and Midland speed series classes as shown below. One of the biggest advantages of doing this is that it allows our Championship scores to consider all other (None WSCC) competitors in the class for scoring purposes. So, if you come 1st in the class, you will score more than another WSCC competitor who whilst fastest WSCC competitor, only came 3rd in the class. North & Midlands Speed Classes 2024 Road Cars - Specialist Production: (S12) 2A: Kit, Replica & Spaceframed Cars up to and including 1800cc (car derived engines) 2B: Kit, Replica & Spaceframed Cars over 1800cc (car derived engines) 2C: Kit, Replica & Spaceframed Cars (motorcycle derived engines) Modified Cars - Specialist Production (S13) 3F: Modified Kit, Replica & Spaceframed Cars up to and including1800cc (car derived engines) 3G: Modified Kit, Replica & Spaceframed Cars over 1800cc (car derived engines) 3H: Modified Kit, Replica & Spaceframed Cars (motorcycle derived engines) We have also taken on board the complexity of the current scoring which can be confusing not only existing competitors but also people that might look to enter the speed series. When the series was created back in 1998 it ran with a simple scoring system where first past the post got us a set number of points it was 17 back then then second was 16 carrying on down, the advantage of this type of system is that it's relatively simple to understand the points that you have just scored at an event, and also to understand where you stand in the whole of the championship quite quickly. So, we're going to go back to a simple scoring system where you get a maximum score of 10 points if you are first in your class then on down at one point at a time. We hope this will mean that people will be able to understand the scoring system and more importantly understand exactly how many points they have achieved at any event that they go to. For the Overall Championship your total score from your best 8 rounds will count. For Mini Sprint series your best total score from 5 rounds of 6 events will count.
