  1. Meet at 10am for breakfast before going on a run out around the Peak District. Where? I am just waiting for confirmation, but if there are not too many supercars visiting, then we can meet at the car museum. I will update tomorrow. EDIT - MEET AT CAR MUSEUM GREAT BRITISH CAR JOURNEY, AMBERGATE, DERBYSHIRE, DE56 2HE Weather is forecast to be cold, so Glen is highly delighted as he can try out his new electric heated jacket, let's hope it is dry too. Who is joining us? who wants to see a supermodel in a heated jacket?🤣Glen is in training as we speak😂 The finish point will be at The New Bath Hotel, Matlock Bath, DE4 3PX, which is only 5 miles away so we won't be taking the direct route!

  2. Pretty sure we will be coming. Probably pop half hood on for journey up as it looks flipping cold early on. Will give me chance to test run the press studs Glen(the body) gave me.

  3. if you're not too worried on looks, you can often get cut or damaged celotex panels quite cheaply. Either ebay or check with local builders.

  4. I usually use Tom Tom mobile to drive in the westy or my other car if touring.. Its easier to use. Also has the unlimited points to allow precise route YOU want to go. It has a few draw backs, mainly the lack of sharing.. Which I would of done here. Plus speed cameras, fuel on route, route saving etc. Longer tours I save it by the day so the route is not huge and if you lose it.. I'd like to see Google use live weather integrated, so I can navigate around rain 😁

  5. Totally, agree. The googlemap was purely for sharing a route and not planned to drive it from. I use it to plan Euroblats and then translate them onto my TomTom and set waypoints. We then manually move through the waypoints to avoid exactly the problem you describe. e.g. Here's the start, middle and finish of the Stelvio pass-

  6. I'm blushing. I don't know everything, i just happened to be in front of my PC when I saw Ben's post for help. I've got over 30 years industrial electronics experience, so I'm usually handy with electrical fault finding. I've had great support from the members in this club and I enjoy giving back.

  7. All parts have been taken from the turbo build that I completed last year and has completed 4000 miles. I will add more parts as they are removed. Someone has first dibs on the motor but if that falls through then that will be fore sale as well. Coolex intercooler and radiator. Does not leak. 63mm intercooler pipes. The units were bought as a package so are bolted together. https://www.coolexperts.co.uk/product/vw-polo-derived-radiator-intercooler-fan-combo-westfield-kit-cars/ £600 new, asking £420. postage would be extra. Bofi racing clutch. More than capable of handling the 280BHP that I had and isn't to heavy or snatchy. Loads of meat left on it, Needs a release bearing, £400 from Bofi, £100 Postage extra. Custom exhaust manifold and down pipe. Fits a TD04/13 and goes out the same hole in the body that the standard factory exhaust went through. Dave fab manifold. I have a V band clamp for it. £250.00 postage extra. Flowforce 660 injectors with MX% conversion. £400 new, 270.00 inc postage to the UK. Skunk2 inlet manifold and throttle body. 8. Please do not use polystyrene in a ceiling application it is a terrible fire risk.

  9. I used to use MotoGoLoco website. It used a version of google maps that allowed more waypoints and then you could share it as well as download gpx (and other) satnav files. Was brilliant, but sadly got kyboshed by google some years ago. I tried Copilot back in 2016 on our Alps trip. It got me lost more than once and had a nasty habit of rerouting back to the start if you stopped for a coffee/food. In a foreign land it was easy to accept the route until you spotted “that weird looking bridge” again after 50 miles in the reverse direction 🤬🤬🤬

  10. Yep, there are not too many supercars visiting the museum so they can accomodate a few hungry Westfielder's for breakfast. After the run out lunch will be at The New Bath Hotel, Matlock Bath. Please try and let me know if you are coming so I can give everyone an idea of numbers, thank you. There is some cracking weather coming @Jakejmagee so enjoy your few days off in your car and we will catch up with you soon.

  11. What about Celotex or similar. It’s light, rigid, easy to cut and has a reflective surface. No need for ply at all. Just a thought, it’s worked well in my 5 x 10m garage/workshop. I’m no expert, but believe you might want to consider venting the roof void above to ensure an airflow to reduce condensation, whatever you use.

  12. Sadly, the holy grail, - "Tyre" route planning software, was around for only a few years of active development before it "advanced" and changed direction somewhat. I've not looked into it for four or five years though, so maybe its replacement is better now. The original (small) subscription service was great, based around Googles map engine, it allowed you to build routes up from as many waypoints as you wanted, and allowed you to very accurately place the waypoints. Before exporting to TomTom as routes/tracks and similar to Garmin. Back in the day, the Tom Toms it was compatible with had very easily accessed route controls, while you were following one, so it was easy to tap the screen to move on to the next way point, if for some reason you realised you weren't going to hit one. Then Tom Tom started messing around with their own firmware, making the controls really hard to get to, and even removing at one stage the ability to import routes from every new product except the Riders. They did eventually bring some route/track support back. I think the Tyre planning software people changed as a result of Tom Tom's mucking around, they launched their own fully compatible GPS app, and cloud based planning tool. But whilst it did it's job well, it wasn't as nice or intuitive to use as the old system, and meant another GPS app to buy/subscribe to. I must admit, after a year of using it, I drifted away. Now as Ian said, we treat what would have been waypoints as individual destinations/POI and manually select them, creating as many or as few as seem to be needed based on the complexities of the road. The other thing to be aware of when sharing routes like this what ever the way you do it, is it's important everyone has their sat nav set to the same route planning settings. ie fastest or thrill, if thrill what options for twistiness/hills. exclude motorways, toll roads etc, whether traffic updates are on or not and so forth. Variations in any or all these, will cause the sat nav to route differently sometimes.

  13. This can work. But often Google maps on a laptop will be subtly different on a mobile and once you use it for navigation will try and be “helpful” and send you a “better” way. Plus there’s a limit to the number of stops. We use it a lot on our local runs, so it does work. But be careful when adding in markers based on named places, as it will likely tell you to turn off down a side street to the market square you don’t want to go to 🤣

  14. Hi all! My name is Holly, I'm 31, and I inherited a Westfield after my dad passed last year. It is a green and black wide body, with a retrofit Fireblade engine. Currently, I cannot drive it, as it is set for my dad, who was 6'1", and I am not. The car is garaged in the Midlands, but I hope to move it down to Surrey once I have somewhere to store it. My husband and I will probably have lots of questions, as we have a long list of things to do with it. Thankfully, Westfield/Chesil had your magazine on their stall at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC last weekend. I look forward to meeting some of you as time goes on!

  15. The warmest of welcomes. What a great, if bittersweet, thread. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you and your family continue to get all the enjoyment from it your dad did!

  17. Great stuff, we met up quite a few times at the Coleshill Breakfast Meet at Dordon, fun memories! Here's a couple of the August 2021 meet I dug out. Your dad in the background with Nick, Lee, Hedley, Andy, Ben and myself. I managed to snap Nik driving off with Nick and Lee about to follow in formation.... quite timely as I'm sure it was only the following weekend when he managed to knock a big hole in the sump on a kerb, leaving a huge trail of oil at the Stoneleigh National Kitcar show! Luckily he always seemed to have a load of spare engines 😂

  18. Thanks Rob! Yeah, that event was a surprise to us too. We were going up the weekend after, and found out as the photos appeared. Also I was 2 weeks post knee op and on crutches... These pictures are all from the last time Dad (Nik) drove the car any distance, which was the Coleshill Breakfast Meet at the end of May 22. Last pic of Dad and the car, and one of me and him.

  20. @Martin Hewes AO Surrey Hi Holly - welcome aboard!! I'm over in Hampshire but regularly stray into Surrey when blatting. Storage wise, what do you need? There's a number of places that offer storage around here. Am sure we (WSCC hive mind) can sort some recommendations if needed. If you're wanting to store at home, if you're short of cover but have space, I'd recommend an outdoor carcoon. My Westie spent much of it's first winter in one and is likely to be back in one shortly so my wife's winter project can be moved indoors to give a warmer working environment. On the height side of things, I'm 6'4 and my wife is 5'8 and we can both drive the car despite it having a fixed seat. My wife has a cushion she uses to push herself forwards, that said, I am trying to find a seat on runners that doesn't put my head any further above the screen...

  21. Hi @Holly White, seeing this post has really made my day (and I don't mind admitting, has brought a tear to my eye). A number of us knew your dad (a thoroughly lovely guy) so it's amazing to see his car staying in the family. If you look up the Autumn 2022 edition of the Westfield World magazine, you will see Nik mentioned in my Derby Notts Area write up. A load of our local members and friends (including some from the dragster scene that he loved so much) did a surprise car meet (organised by Nick Bradley) for your dad at the Railway Inn (his local pub) in June last year. A snap of your car a couple of years earlier in 2020.... we had been out to the Long Itch Diner that morning for breakfast and then a good run round the local lanes to the Red Banger for lunch 👍

  22. Welcome from Weybridge! You’ll find everyone on here very helpful. There’s a local Surrey group and @Martin Hewes AO Surrey is the organiser. There’s also the Thames Valley group to your north and I think @Jim RS is the organiser there.

  23. I pulled into the garage after a quick blast round the back roads and realised that I could see my feet. I didn't realise that I had illuminated footwells! But then I started thinking: had I always had illuminated footwells? I honestly couldn't remember. Why would a car as simple as a Westfield have a feature so Max Power? And if it did, wouldn't it be an offputting colour like lilac? This needed investigating. It stayed on with everything bar the ignition. Not a single switch on the dash made a difference. Weird, weird. A bit of gymnastics got my head into the footwell. Yep, there's a bulb under there. I need a bit more space to figure it out. Maybe if I put the handbrake off for more wiggle room.......... I'm really ashamed at how long it took me to figure out that the handbrake warning light had fallen out of the bulb holder. David.
