  1. I've only been on the forum for about 3 weeks and the generosity with information and the kindness amazes me. This has taken my feet from under me. Just WOW. I shall read it then put it back on here to pass it on to the next person interested. Many Thanks Terry. Russell.

  2. I'm blushing. I don't know everything, i just happened to be in front of my PC when I saw Ben's post for help. I've got over 30 years industrial electronics experience, so I'm usually handy with electrical fault finding. I've had great support from the members in this club and I enjoy giving back.

  3. Hi all! My name is Holly, I'm 31, and I inherited a Westfield after my dad passed last year. It is a green and black wide body, with a retrofit Fireblade engine. Currently, I cannot drive it, as it is set for my dad, who was 6'1", and I am not. The car is garaged in the Midlands, but I hope to move it down to Surrey once I have somewhere to store it. My husband and I will probably have lots of questions, as we have a long list of things to do with it. Thankfully, Westfield/Chesil had your magazine on their stall at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC last weekend. I look forward to meeting some of you as time goes on!

  4. Postage should be less that £5. Apart from that its free but if you want then a few bob to a charity like Make A Wish ( the club has supported that in the past)

  5. I pulled into the garage after a quick blast round the back roads and realised that I could see my feet. I didn't realise that I had illuminated footwells! But then I started thinking: had I always had illuminated footwells? I honestly couldn't remember. Why would a car as simple as a Westfield have a feature so Max Power? And if it did, wouldn't it be an offputting colour like lilac? This needed investigating. It stayed on with everything bar the ignition. Not a single switch on the dash made a difference. Weird, weird. A bit of gymnastics got my head into the footwell. Yep, there's a bulb under there. I need a bit more space to figure it out. Maybe if I put the handbrake off for more wiggle room.......... I'm really ashamed at how long it took me to figure out that the handbrake warning light had fallen out of the bulb holder. David.

  7. @Martin Hewes AO Surrey Hi Holly - welcome aboard!! I'm over in Hampshire but regularly stray into Surrey when blatting. Storage wise, what do you need? There's a number of places that offer storage around here. Am sure we (WSCC hive mind) can sort some recommendations if needed. If you're wanting to store at home, if you're short of cover but have space, I'd recommend an outdoor carcoon. My Westie spent much of it's first winter in one and is likely to be back in one shortly so my wife's winter project can be moved indoors to give a warmer working environment. On the height side of things, I'm 6'4 and my wife is 5'8 and we can both drive the car despite it having a fixed seat. My wife has a cushion she uses to push herself forwards, that said, I am trying to find a seat on runners that doesn't put my head any further above the screen...

  8. Hi @Holly White, seeing this post has really made my day (and I don't mind admitting, has brought a tear to my eye). A number of us knew your dad (a thoroughly lovely guy) so it's amazing to see his car staying in the family. If you look up the Autumn 2022 edition of the Westfield World magazine, you will see Nik mentioned in my Derby Notts Area write up. A load of our local members and friends (including some from the dragster scene that he loved so much) did a surprise car meet (organised by Nick Bradley) for your dad at the Railway Inn (his local pub) in June last year. A snap of your car a couple of years earlier in 2020.... we had been out to the Long Itch Diner that morning for breakfast and then a good run round the local lanes to the Red Banger for lunch 👍

  9. Not a particularly recent snap, but the last time this one went out properly. (and yes, it does have a front splitter. I believe there was an incident with a kerb....)

  12. The problem was a poor earth connection on the steering rack mount. I had recently had the neg battery cable off when I fitted the battery isolator switch. I had used the car since then with no issues. But today when I measured across the neg batt lead terminal and the main chassis earth stud I was getting a really high resistance reading. I removed the terminal and remade the connection and it’s all good now. So fingers crossed that’s all it was and it caught me out when it did (not far from home!)

  13. Many thanks all. Especially Ian for his remote fix! So basically there is an issue with the earth somewhere. After a bit of fault finding and cable tieing a jump lead from the negative batt terminal to the earth post on the chassis it all sprang back to life and I carefully drive home anticipating the jump leads pinging off at any second (but they didn’t!) thanks all again. This is why the club is great 😊

  15. Hey Ben, I recently changed my starter motor and I too wanted to upgrade it to high torque version. I bought a Powerlite RAC483 for my car; ST170 (same block as a Zetec Blacktop) & Zetec flywheel. I had compatibility issues between the starter motor mesh and my Retroford flywheel which caused a strange noise after staring. See below I ended up changing it for a Retroford starter motor and the noise disappeared. I am sure others have had success with high torque starter motors, sadly I didn't. Im pretty certain any Lucas LRS707 starter motor or equivalent is all you really need. Al
