  3. I strongly advise you not to try that defence, because it’s not only wrong, it’s self-incriminating. The speed limit is 70mph, full stop. Anything above that is entirely at the officer’s discretion. There is no +10% in the statute books. The fact you believed the misinformation is exactly what sadly landed you where you are. In other words, you’re nicked, old son. 🤬

  4. Yes 79 , but your supposed to be allowed 10% + 2mph = 79 mph !

  5. 79 in a 70 limit, you might not get the choice. If you do, pay the money and do the course. Taking points will impact your insurance.

  6. Do the course. I have done "more than one" and I find them very interesting if you have the frame of mind that you actually want to learn something.

  7. Pay your money and do the course, save your points you never know you may need them in the future! I was surprised how unaware some drivers were when I did my course.

  9. After a weekend of struggle I now have the containers built. Not sure what's going in it yet but it will free up space in the garage.

  10. My sons and I got there bright and early to beat the normal NEC traffic and arrived at the halls just after the doors opened and it was already quite busy! I have been to the Classic Car show many times in the past, but before my membership of the WSCC I would wander the halls for hours admiring the cars but not see a soul I recognised.... how things have changed! Having been a member of NWKCOG Hardcore for a good few years, it was great to see them having a stand at the show. I know Trevor quite well and we always enjoy a bit of good natured banter whenever we see each other, this was no exception 😂 As I'm chatting on the stand I'm tapped on the shoulder by @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative 's better half, Glen with his son in tow. Around the corner I stumble across the Burton Car Club, with friends Michael who runs the club and Ged owns GE Refinishers (a classic car restoration business) manning the stand. Wandering a bit further I came across the Spax stand so had a good chat about all things springs and dampers with Tony (aka @DamperMan) who i'd not seen since the Warwickshire Curborough track day. Great to see you Tony, I'll be in contact soon about some new dampers! About to enter the next hall I recognised the dulcet tones of my mate Nick Bradley who is not only a Westfield Megabusa owner but also owns Superveloce Cars (builders of the Aardvark Racing SR1). With the Westfield Chesil factory being there, it would have been rude not to go and say hello! It was brilliant to see @DIY-Si's beautiful Coventry Climax engined Westfield XI having pride of place on the stand alongside the electric Chesil and the white SEIW demonstrator. Nigel Trilk was on great form, apparently they were having a very successful few days which was great to hear. Seems the factory are getting some good interest in all three models. There were a few cars there too, here's a few of my favourites 😍 Obviously a Westie or two! My favourite matchbox toy as a kid! Always fancied one of these, beautiful 😍 A bit of Jap 70's restomod muscle I'd give my left arm for this... 917.... enough said! Have a soft spot for a Ginetta... Dream car of the early 90's One of my late father's faves, a stunning SM Who wouldn't want a 1937 Ford flathead cabriolet in the garage!? A rare 'Sud that the tin worm didn't eat 😂 Stunning pre-WW2 Frazer Nash BMW

  12. My favourite experience on that front was long ago in California. I worked my way through a knot of freeway traffic and saw the road at the front was wide open, and as I was driving a 1966 Shelby 350 GT, it would have been rude not to stick my toe down. As I did, I discovered why the road was open - a CHP car on the right, which I only noticed after I blew his light bar off the roof. Instant disco of course, and I pulled over straight away like a good boy. Eventually, he walked up to my window and said, “Nice car. Do you know you were doing 80mph?” I looked him straight in the eye and said in all seriousness, “That’s impossible. I haven’t even been out for an hour.” He looked back at me, blinking his eyes a few times before finally responding, “Nope - not heard that one before. Slow down.”, then returning to his car and driving off. 😎

  13. I've been driving 35 years and only been caught three times.... twice were very marginal, in the early hours on the motorway (they were obviously bored) so I got away with a telling off/lecture. The third time, 10 years ago I was sweating a little waiting for the inevitable letter..... Not wanting to incriminate myself, but I was "getting a bit of a wriggle on" down an A-Road in my twin turbo BMW overtaking a line of trucks. The throttle had been pinned for a while before I spotted the camera van.... I'd hit the brakes that hard the photo that dropped through the door showed my hazard lights on 😂 Given the speed that I may or may not have been at before hitting the brakes, I was VERY VERY happy and relieved to get the course. Some parts were interesting and I learned a few things. The single most interesting thing was the amazing lack of knowledge of some other drivers in the room.... scary stuff! Anyway, I've learned my lesson and I now drive like Miss Daisy 😇
