No. I have wired the DRL to be a side light when stopped but I always drive with dipped beam on anyway as the car is so dark and low.2 points

This supports the view to change oil after each track day, if you've been 'battering it'!2 points

Agreed. In fact, assuming the vehicle is kept in a garage and doesn't go out when the weather is below or very close to freezing, the only reason you need antifreeze is because all reputable makes of antifreeze, of whatever colour, contain a corrosion inhibitor. This is essential if there is both iron (or steel) and aluminium somewhere in the engine and coolant system because as I'm sure everybody on here knows mixing water, aluminium and iron will generally cause the aluminium to corrode to a crumbly oxide. I believe it is an electrolytic action. So a mix of 2 parts of water to 1 part of antifreeze will be fine in a Westfield in normal use and storage. It's different in your daily use tintop of course.2 points

I was getting raising oil temps if driving fast for prolonged periods on the road (like dual carriageways) and on track but it was fine just normal driving around. I think even when driving quite hard on the road there is quite a lot of time off the gas?? I fitted a 10 row oil cooler and a remote filter fitting with a thermostatic take off for the oil cooler. Seems like a good compromise but it was getting a bit hot still at Donington on Sunday. Oil temp was edging past 120 on longer runs and pressure was starting to drop a bit. I’m debating fitting a slightly larger one. Pics below (which seem to be upside down??!!) if anyone is interested!!2 points

It's that time of year again, when thoughts turn to warming Christmas Curries to beat the dark, winter night blues! We will meet up from 7.00pm at the George Inn, just round the corner from the restaurant for a drink, then we have a table booked for 7.30pm, at K2H. (Where we ate last year!) As before, parking is available in Waitrose car park, or the big overspill car park just before it. The George Inn - 39 High St, Sandbach CW11 1AL K2H Indian - 3-4 Georges Walk, High St, Sandbach CW11 1AR Car Park - Flat Ln, Sandbach CW11 4BE Can you let me know as soon as possible if you're coming please! A sad evening at our house tonight. We really didnt want to sell her, but having her cooped up in storage for the next couple of years while we travel just wasn't right. We haven't said much to each other tonight. It feels like standing at the train station, waving goodbye to your son who's been drafted overseas to the war.😔 The car has been paid for and is being delivered to Devon by specialist transporter tomorrow, to a nice couple who have already joined the club in anticipation. It was an easy transaction, they didnt quibble on the asking price, and it was just what they were after. I'm sure they will cherish her as much as we did.1 point

I have these but for ease I wired the DRL as a sidelight. No issues with MOTs and they are surprisingly effective as headlights. Can't remember how much they cost, but they were cheap and cheerful from AliExpress.1 point

I’m running Valvoline SynPower 10w40 currently on the recommendation of Raceline. I’ll look at Millers products for my next oil change. Cheers1 point

120 is fine👍 What oil do you use? If it's a thin one that the manufacturer of the engine recommends go up to a thicker grade that will offer better protection hot. For reference Millers say their performance oils are fine seeing peaks of 150 and constantly running at 130!1 point

I'm going on Sunday , a brilliant show indeed !1 point

You don't need anywhere near 50% strength mix of anti freeze, unless of course your car is sat outside over winter? Antifreeze lowers the waters cooling efficiency, which in our small cars with not much airflow through the engine bay isn't a good thing!1 point

As above you won't need one for any type of road driving 👍 It's only trackdays where you are at WOT for so long the oil temps become a issue. If you do fit a air to oil cooler you will probably need to blank it off for road driving as the oil won't get hot enough to evaporate any moisture that's in the crank case. Might be worth looking into a Mocal Laminova, expensive to buy but work well👍1 point

To be honest, it wasn't until a week or so ago that I realised the show was even on!1 point

Thanks for the reply. Something else to look forward to, a very special Westfield XI. I am wildly jealous that I am not going but I am sure Glen will take me next year. I am surprised more people are not going, unless, like me, nobody has quite realised what is on offer there.1 point

My Zetec (ITB and cams producing 190+bhp) with a 13 row oil cooler with a 92 deg C thermostat spends most of the year with a blanking plate in front of the cooler only getting removed on hot summer track days that could be managed with shorter sessions on track. The increased oil capacity of a Raceline wet sump, remote oil filter and cooler means that in Autumn/Spring it takes a good 1/2+ hr run to get the oil over low 80s deg C for majority road car, with hindsight I wouldn't bother.1 point

Better to monitor first. I’ve seen no higher than 120 Degrees C oil temp (sump sender) when alp pass blatting. My S2000 just runs the standard Modine oil to water exchanger below the filter. If you fit an oil cooler you could make matters worse if it over cools. So for road and track use, make sure you fit one with a thermostat to avoid this issue.1 point

About to carry out an oil change I did consider the need to fit one to my Zetec. I don’t do loads of track days but I like to drive it hard and on the euro trips in 35deg heat up and down mountain passes all day long I was conscious of it getting hot. I change the oil every year and run a decent quality oil. Iam not sure really reading the above whether I should worry or not. An oil temp gauge would be a nice addition…1 point

I share the storage with some friends who own some interesting toys which I help them with. We are trying to find an event to put my Westfield up against one of there slower cars as I dont fancy my chances against a 900bhp road course NASCAR.1 point

I use Prestone coolant - they claim that it is for "all makes, models and age of vehicle, and can be mixed safely with any coolant already in the vehicles system". So its very convenient. Only in track cars I am trying to use water + Water Wetter (or sth similar from Motul) .1 point
