I just found this on the FBHVC website which appears to confirm what I understood that once 40 years have passed since the date of first registration on a Q plate it can still acquire historic status along with those perks in place today. They probably won't be there in a few years time as they claw back a few pounds Major points of note are: The process is one of self-declaration. Owners will only be required to declare their vehicle to be a VHI if they wish to be exempted from an annual MOT Test. All vehicles will still be able to be tested if their owners wish The criteria are generic and permit changes made, less than 30 years prior to the declaration, which improve efficiency, safety, preservation or environmental performance. Those vehicles registered on a Q plate, as kits or built up classics are not entitled to be declared as VHIs until forty years after they were registered. For motorcycles only the criteria of Q plates, kits and built up classics prevent declaration as a VHI. The Guidance refers to “a marque or historic vehicle experts”. A list will be published on the website of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs by 30th April 2018. Vehicle owners wishing to confirm if they may declare their vehicle as a VHI, may choose to contact the appropriate nominee from this list FBHVC will be explaining the Guidance in full in its first Newsletter of 2018 and as soon as possible on its website at www.fbhvc.co.uk.1 point

Congratulations to Adam Phelps (@phelpsa) our 2023 Speed Series Champion! His and his family's hard work developing their car over the years has paid off, not to take away credit from Adam, as he is an incredibly quick driver, able to beat out much more specialist machinery in the Westfield! Once again, a huge congrats to Adam, it was always going to happen!1 point

Glen says he is also an old fart and has had both the flu and covid jabs with no side effect other than a slight bruise on the arm. You lot better recover before next Sunday because we need to see you, your cars and eat cake although Glen admits he is available for any spare tickets to Italy😁 Have fun tomorrow brmmm brmmm😍1 point

I feel your frustration Dave. I gave in this morning and contacted 111. They had me straight down to see a doctor. Seems I have an ear infection that has invaded my head and throat. 7 days of antibiotics, last day of these is 2 days before we fly to Italy.. my fingers are crossed as Ali might well leave me here alone if I’ve not recovered. Our daughter who works in a large office with lots of peeps tells me she has half a dozen or so staff off work with a similar infection that has peoples eyes swelling up..0 points

Well the crossing of fingers didn't work. Just tried a short run out to the shops in the (tin top), the first time out in a few days, after catching the dreaded flu on Monday/Tuesday. I might be starting to feel OK mooching around the house, but as soon as I'm outside and driving, I'm lightheaded and feverish again. Not safe to be Westfield piloting, unfortunately, so I'll have to give it a miss. Nope no flu jab, just in contact with people with the demon spreaders - school kids. One first day in a relative enclosed classroom on a training course, and the parents are importing the bugs from their kids!! FWIW, I am booked for a jab, I have one every year, have done for years, it's late this year and this is the first year I've had a proper dose of flu since I started having the jabs ten years ago. (like you, I was put on the list as a carer). I even chase them to get mine done, if they're slow to make contact.0 points

Slight technical hick up. Throttle stuck open due to a frayed accelorator cable. Glad it was on a long stretch of A road not the twistys later in the day. Big thanks to th AA guy who got me underway. Lack of tools prevented me from using my choke cable to sort it. Sore this morning after 278miles in the seat yesterday0 points
