  2. The sun was up so a good turnout at GBS. The cakes were exceptional as normal and plentiful. As GBS themselves seem to photoshop Westfields out of their photos, I thought I’d post photos of the 5 that were there - @Greenstreak-Andy D, Trisha (driven by Jordan - it was really really clean and shiny), James in his yellow masda R/S engined car and Gary in his dark green pre-lit. Good to see @Martyn Vann - Warwickshire AO and Sue. and @Phippsy! I thought I’d put this photo in just as it was a car of dreams back in my day a long long time ago. RS2000 Mexico. Having made the comment about GBS cutting the photos, it would appear that the tactic of abandoning our cars in the middle of the car park worked and we are actually in their photos!! Instagram only at this stage but it’s a start!

  3. Thanks to my father-in-law today we managed to: Replace cam followers New cambelt Helicoil for 1 rocket cover bolt Thanks to my neighbour letting me use his drive we even stayed dry in the rain showers. Thanks to my wife we were fed and watered. Hopefully the annoying (worrying?) tapping sound will now completely disappear. Run it for about 10-15min, got quieter, will give it a drive tomorrow when it's dry (hopefully). Good day all round!

  12. Hi! As per email: yes to convoy and to the breakfast. I reckon it'll only be 1 person, my son will probably prefer to stay in bed for longer. Jens

  17. Did a 1200 mile trip down France in my 34 year old campervan. Just a few minor niggles… my magnetic sticker was GB not UK. The cruise control stopped working until I bypassed the clutch switch. Wiper arm stopped so needed tightening. And the bulb in the speedo died. 38.5 mpg first tank, 42mpg second tank, and I’ve not filled then3rd .

  18. I went to see one of the first Lotus Elises at a showroom when they first appeared. This was before they scalloped the chassis in the door area. It was a challenge to get into the driver's seat, but I managed without an excessive amount of drama. But I was totally defeated by getting out again. I ended up diving out head first and doing a forward roll across the showroom floor. I think that was the point when the salesman realised that he wasn't going to get a sale. David

  19. Scotland East coast to west coast on Sat via Perth, Crieff, Glen Coe, Oban, Loch Awe. 270 miles covered. It was sunny when we left, without the hood! Met a couple of Lotus guys on the way over one of which still owns a Westie.

  20. Did the steak cost more if cooked? 😉 What a great trip and well written up too. Shame you were a solo Westie and more didn't join you.

  21. The timbers look decent and the side walls are taking a lot of there weight. I am just wondering if you could bolt a steel plate to the back of the timber lintels. A structural engineer would be able to easily calculate that and even with the calculation it would be cheaper than replacing.

  22. If you do get as far as fitting a single door, go for a sectional, not a roller. A friend runs a garage door company and likes double-span roller doors as the maintenance work on them keeps him busy. They sag in the middle after a while and it causes issues longer term. He tries to avoid fitting them as they don't help his reputation but is happy to take the money fixing/replacing other peoples work.

  23. I would suggest that you get a structural engineer to do calculations on modifications as even the brick pillars will need strengthening. Any structural modification like this will need at the least building regs. approval and a possible visit on completion. Additionally if anything should happen, even out of your control, your insurance would drop you like a hot potato.

  24. This sounds exactly the same as my garage. I looked into doing a similar thing, as I only use one of the garage doors. The other is blocked off. I want to move the pillar over a couple of feet, then brick up the smaller gap and have a larger single garage door. I can only just get a car through the door that is there now. My builder said it would need an RSJ to span the gap as the wood beams that are there won't support the load. I need a structural engineer to work out what size it needs to be, so I've left it as it is for now. Apparently, a new kitchen is more urgent than a garage door.

  25. You could do with posting some pictures. Need to see the lintel bearing on either end and what is sat on the lintel from the inside. What is the width of the garage openings.
