Hi, first post. Built this car over 20 years ago, sold it after a year, and bought it back last year ! Just spent the last few months sorting out and re-commissioning all the mechanics after not being on the road for the past 17 years. Picture taken this week just before it was taken for a pre MOT check over, and MOT test next week. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel again after all these years ! Barry.8 points

After 18 years of ownership I'm sadly selling my Westfield. Priorities have changed over the years as family have grown and it hardly gets used. It's still only covered 12,000 miles from new. It's a beautiful car and no expense has been spared on it. Many years ago I was Area Organiser for WSCC Northamptonshire Area so you may have seen the car about. Here's the specs; The engine is a 1800 Zetec fitted as new by Westfield with 2.0 litre cams added, Jenvey Throttle Bodies, 90mm trumpets, MBE ECU, upgraded injectors and a Retro Ford water rail. This was then set up by Troy at Northampton Motorsport giving 145bhp and 128 lb/ft of torque. At the same time a full camber alignment and corner weighting was carried out. All documentation and receipts are included for this with all the graphs, charts and printouts. The list of upgrades and features includes; New Odyssey Battery Techcraft decat silencer Bespoke 4 branch manifold Nickel plated front suspension Poly bushes all round Spax coilovers Alloy uprights Westfield race seats TRS harnesses Floor mounted pedals Lockable boot box Lockable bonnet Vented nose cone Toyo R888s all round Insurance approved immobiliser Sidescreens Tourneo Roof Spare wheel Build manual Huge folder of receipts and documents Fitted Westfield cotton cover I have just fitted new plugs, oil and filter and fuel filter the car has also just had an MOT. I'll be setting off after Pop Master! Should take me 2 and half hours from Leeds, so 1:15ish traffic depending. I've got the Westfield Avenue signs to put up for directions. See you soon. Sorry, but I'm not in the Westfield, look out for a black Alfa Romeo Giulietta.2 points

Just to put in perspective the increases just had my renewal for the Volvo XC60. After years of company cars last year retired and had to buy one, insurance was £256.99 with LV. This year it was £424 for the same cover now with one years NCD. Using the usual sites best I have found for same cover is £355 with Aviva but still a big increase. Speaking with a broker he also confirmed there was an increase due to claims going up and being higher values. He thought there was around an average of 20% increase at least and likely to increase again next year.1 point

Unlikely. Water in the oil would more than likely be head gasket failure. A core plug would just leak water/coolant into the area around the failure, ie the plug wells in your case. That coolant shouldn't find it's way into the sump unless there is an issue elsewhere.1 point

I'll move this conversation over to Tech Talk as its drifted away from a photo of my Westy 🫣1 point

In general, no idea and whoever thinks people are logical creatures is sadly mistaken. At the moment there may be some other factors going on. From watching some auctions etc, the "collectors" car market is a bit depressed and there's a lot of people's toys coming onto the market due to the impact of mortgage rates/cost of living/ULEZ etc. Some of these cars will have been sitting in garages for a while doing nothing and now they need to be sold and this is a good place to do that. I'm also guessing a year's membership here is cheaper than selling on Ebay, AutoTrader or sites like car and classic.1 point

Haha! Small world right. Yeah it belongs to my mate who isn’t currently an active WSCC me never. It’s a great car 👍1 point

They’re narrow live axle (SE) parts as opposed to narrow independent rear axle (SEI) that you have. The short arms of which there are normally two each side act as trailing arms to secure the axle tube to the chassis whist the longer panhard rod mounts transversely across the chassis to stop the axle tube moving sideways.1 point

The video by VDO that shows what to do is really good, apart from it's the other bezel design that twists off. Hopefully you have a twist off one ... but it's not that bad if you've the pressed on one. Other lesson learnt - plug it back into the dash and make sure the needle zeroes properly before you put it all back together - saves a lot of swearing if you haven't put the needle back on properly...1 point

Glad to hear it 👍 They're a friendly, helpful bunch. My car is held together almost entirely with nuts and bolts from there. They often just charge a nominal quid for a decent quantity of assorted fasteners I've requested. Proper place.1 point

Thank you all for coming - especially as our women were playing in the World Cup final. Should have meant that the roads were quiet but as Andy and Becky found, this was not true. At least the weather was good. A no windscreen wiper day and no roof. It did have a little go at rain but this is a traditional English summer so I’ll take it. A fantastic turn out at McD Matlock of 8 Westfields. Rob brought along two with him including @Phippsys old car. Andy and Becky were struggling to get to us but on the positive note, @Chris Emmmade it for breakfast. Leaving @Rob Hunter Derby & Notts AObehind to do granddad duties, we left Matlock and took a route designed by TomTom as ‘challenging’ via Winnates Pass (avoiding the locals) to Edale. En route picked up the stragglers @aeg The Ramblers Inn car park was surprisingly empty so we lined up accordingly. it wasn’t empty inside thou! We lost two Westies at lunch and the remaining six took a route back to Matlock which was ‘different’ as my TomTom kept on going to sleep so hopefully the followers didn’t notice the detours but at least we made it to the designed cake stop at The Fountain Tea Rooms in Bonsall. The obligatory cake photo for @Julie Hall - WSCC AO Representative who was missing. We all departed well fed and happy that the day worked out roughly as planned 🤪 215miles of no roof, no rain, with great company and friends. Not to mention the Westfield smile. See you all again soon.1 point
