Inspired by @AndrewBClarke's great 4 day blat over the weekend. I decided to head out early yesterday(before 6am) and ended up covering 397 great miles over 12.5 hours (I did stop in for Coffee @CosKev) on the way home). First half of the run- Thanks to @David Bennett for sharing a route he'd done earlier this year, which formed part of my morning. I particularly enjoyed this part- 2nd half of the run- Looking moody over Snowdonia but not a drop of rain fell! Craig Goch Dam Lunch break- Pen y Garreg Dam The Dam baguss fan club- Damn reversing! Mainly light or no traffic. It's probably the longest I've driven in a Westfield in a day and it didn't feel like a chore. Though I did sleep well last night !2 points

Price reduced to £9,000. If it doesn't sell, it's not meant to be and I'll happily keep hold of her. At least I can tell the wife I tried. 😃2 points

Being very much still a newbie to a Westfield (albeit moving up from a MGB GT) the amount of smells and noises the Westie provides is something else: - the pinging of stone chips in the wheels - the unburnt fuel from the carbs - the occasional whiff of brake smell Etc. I think the MGB served up more oily notes, but that's probably because they seem to be designed to leak. Either way, I love that additional layer of interaction to motoring - makes even a mundane journey an event.2 points

Popped up to AV8 at Kemble/Cotswold Airport today just for a Cappuccino 😂 Nice fast blat. Tally - 17 fast overtakes (a new record for me on that route), a sunglasses left lens big bug impact, 3 strange noises and one worrying smell but all totally OK when inspected upon return. I hate those weird noises and smells you occasionally get in an open top car. Thankfully they usually turn out to be completely external and nothing to do with the car being about to explode 😂2 points

Meet at Great British Car Journey Ltd, Ambergate, Derbyshire, DE56 2HE at 10am. Breakfast rolls and drinks will be available in the cafe. There is also a Museum Members meet on so there will be other interesting cars to look at, plus the 'Drive Dad's Car Experience' will be running so you will be able to watch classics from the 70's and 80's drive slowly past around the site. If the weather stays fine there will be the option for WSCC members to come on a run around the Peak District, current forecast is dry in the morning, possible showers later. The previously planned Multi Area Meet is best saved for a day with a better forecast as people are travelling a good distance, so please look out for it in the coming weeks. I would be grateful if you can let me know if you intend to come on this as I have to let the museum know an idea of numbers as it helps with their planning. After a long absence due to the rain we are looking forward to it, are you?1 point

This has been on my list of things to do for ages, but had to take second place to sorting my exhaust out which I managed to finish this morning. I wanted the doors to be hinged so that I can get in and out with the half hood on, so ages ago I ordered some stainless steel fittings from a Marine Chandlery shop. They took months to arrive, but when they did I could see that they would do the trick. I also picked up a Rivnut gun and suitable Rivnuts to take the hinge fittings. I want to be able to remove the doors and fittings easily so that when the weather is set fair for a while I can go back to fully open. Anyway, to cut a long story short it basically all works. I made a mess of the first two rivnuts as I didn’t know what I was doing but with a bit of tidying up they will be fine, they are fixed firmly so all is good. The main downside to the fittings I’ve used is that they stand the door away from the bodywork a bit, leaving a gap for the wind to come in. To close that, I’ve fitted some trim from Woollies which works really well. All that is left for these is a little strap and popper to hold them closed. They seal up perfectly when pulled in so should be just what I wanted. Last job was to fit the old Caterham wind deflectors I had on it before. The hinge fitting holes had been sealed up, so I had to re drill those but they have gone on very well and sit nicely against the front edge of the doors. They have the added benefit of stopping the doors swinging right the way open so it all works well 👍👍 Apologies for so many pictures!1 point

Thanks Ian @Ian Kinder (Bagpuss) - Joint Peak District AO Totally understand and will consider what I post in the future, I didn't want to make this post about me, it's for the the guys at westfield, there was nobody more disappointed than me when then went into administration and I just want them to be successful again. I'll delete my original post on here and move on.1 point

These are the ones I used. They work well for what I wanted. Paired with M6 rivnuts they are quite secure. There is some slack where they connect to the doors which could be eliminated by packing out between the clamp and the door but I’ve left mine as is; once they are buttoned in place they are very secure. The Woolies trim really helps too and makes a complete seal so no air comes in. At motorway speed with the doors and Caterham side screens the buffeting is much reduced; my baseball cap did not need to be reversed, teenager style, in order to stay on! https://marinestore.co.uk/blue-wave-rigging-metric-stainless-spare-threaded-toggle-right-hand.html1 point

Thanks for posting good feedback in the correct place, Phil @Murraymint - I'm guessing you posted here- https://www.facebook.com/groups/westfieldsportscarclub As the 'about' section shows- If you'd posted I've just fitted part X, thanks WCL, and here's a pic of my car in a great location after a test run, it would have been fine. We're trying our best to boost WSCC Membership by steering/guiding people from FB to here etc. Best regards, Ian1 point

Unfortunately, Dad and I have pulled our entries as the car won’t be ready in time. Luckily, as it turns out, we have quite a few bits in our spares hoard that we will be able to use. But the chassis damage will require someone a little more experienced than us to put right, so will probably have to have it sent away for a proper job to be done.0 points
